Had a great time catching up with some old lads at McSorleys over the weekend. The place (in the most literal scenes) is dripping in history. You probably know the deal, but we’ll refresh you. All cash and two types of beer: Dark and Light. That’s it. $6 for two (probably 10oz beers). While I tried both, the Dark beer was clearly better. Exceptionally smooth. I mean it was chocolate milk smooth. Great foamy head and man, what a fun drinking experience. This place is the real deal.

Look: Pitch black with 3 fingers of foamy tan head.

Smell: Bready malt with a mild hint of chocolate and very light hops.

Taste: Bready malt, minor chocolate note. Virtually no hops.

Mouthfeel: Thick, fully body with decent carbonation.

Overall: Not as hoppy as the light at McSorley’s, but easy to pound.

Served on tap in 12 oz (355 ml) mugs at McSorley's Ale House in New York City.
A: Pour a cloudy, very dark brown to black color with a one to two finger, foamy brown head, solid nearly a finger of retention, and rings of spidery lacing.
S: Aromas of dark chocolate, black coffee, and honey.
T: Semisweet. Flavors light but derived from the nose. Solid bitterness that moderates the sweetness.
M: Medium bodied with solid carbonation. Drinks smoothly and creamy; crisp finish.
O: Definitely a Schwarzbier and a well made one at that. Enjoyed several.
