This is a review based on memory...So there I was in the University of Pittsburgh at the Delta Phi House in 2003/2004. Things were tight and the boys needed to drink. We got Jacob Best. I remember saying " if this is the Best Jacob can do then Jacob should be shot!" I could not stand this while I was in college it was that bad.

Pours a light pale yellow color with a one finger head. The smell is of cheap grains, it is pungent and harsh. The taste is the same, cheap grains and some sweet malt taste. The taste is also pungent and a strong bitter taste. The mouthfeel is okay, it is a little slick and harsh. Overall I would not want to finish one of these let alone drink more, the taste and smell of a pungent note to them.

There are two kind of cheap American macros, ones that are barely tolerable and ones to avoid at all costs. This is the latter. Despite its cheapness, it has all the drawbacks of horrible beer. A seethru, pale gold color. A grainy, metallic, corn smell with some morning dew thrown in there to round it out. A light, watery, airy body with no discernible hop or malt presence other than a dry backbite that just wears down the tastebuds and makes the beer has no taste after a couple. This is for when you are on the MEGAcheap.

Hate to say it but I tried this and was very disapointed.Appearance is very pale, smell like grass, has hardly any head. Taste sort of strong and bitter sort of strange something I would not buy again. Does not do much for refreshment in your mouth. One at a sitting is plenty for this one just to use it up. Hate to be so negative but it is not anything like I thought it might be.

Smack out of the can. Got about 6 from my better half.

Can looks OK. I've heard of this before. Quite intimidating.

Nose of sulphur and corn. Maybe some malted barley in there. Reminds me of Herman.

Tastes like a cheap american pilsner. Fermented too warm.

Feels OK. Drinks as expected.

Overall. Good cheap americal pils.

Appearance - pours into a pils glass a pale straw color, just a touch of gold. A strong white head, a finger or so, forms an initial dense foamy cap and holds for a bit, leaving some clumpy lace behind.

Aroma - grainy, sweet, fairly plain but nothing unpleasant.

Taste - mild sweetness, grainy and crisp with a trace hoppiness on the swallow. Not too bad, wouldn't want to wait around forever to finish it off though.

Mouthfeel - light to average body, well-carbonated.

Drinkability - refreshing, thirst quenching, fills its role adequately.

Oh the horror! This is one terrible brew. The taste is shocking, and the worst part is that it lingers long after you've finished punishing your tastebuds. Sometimes you can have a laugh at yourself for purchasing a case of "homeless man's" beer, but this particular variety isn't funny at all, it's just wrong. I noticed on the case it brags about originating in 1844. This beer at least partially explains why people only lived to be about 45 in those days! Stay away at all costs. Take it easy boys and girls!

Alright, this was an afterthought beer in our beer club run for the month (they had $10 leftover, so a case of this stuff was bought)...and it's surprisingly decent considering what it is.

Appearance: Very pale straw color with a decent inch-thick white head. Unfortunately, poor head retention.

Aroma: Surprisingly, there's a bit of a spicy hop zing. Definitely noble hops in this one. No discernible maltiness, though.

Taste: Definitely a noble hop character comes through. It's a refreshing change from the typical macrobrew.

Mouthfeel: light in body, no malt backbone...pretty standard macrostuff here

Drinkability: Hoppiness makes it not taste like water. Light body makes it easy to drink

Jacob Best Pilsener - Crystal clear, golden in color with a bright white head that holds fairly well. It keeps a good collar throughout the glass and leaves some nice lace. The aroma is of a sweetly grainy malt with some very light background hops. The body is light-medium with a very fine, standard level of carbonation. Smooth in the mouth with a light zest on the tongue. The flavor is clearly balanced towards the malt, mirroring the sweetness and grainy character displayed by the aroma. There are some hops present but they are non-distinct. It finishes fairly short and semi-dry with a gently lingering maltiness. Quite average.
