Purchased. Poured into pint sized glass. Really wanted to like this or at least find it acceptable. Big disappointment. Saying Original Lone Star is much more better tasting that this says a lot. Tastes like melted candy corn. Avoid at all costs, no matter the cost.

(Purchased from the sketchy Citgo on Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Killeen, Texas.)

I wanted to like this beer. I appreciate the Texas Bock beer tradition (which frankly has little to do with the German Bock tradition, but is still makes for better than average convenience store beer), so I wanted to like this beer.

But... I can't recommend it.

The bottle design is clever (obviously meant to mimic the Shiner Bock design with the Goat but with a different color scheme - black, white and gold) and it pours tolerably well into the glass (with a minimal bit of head but way too light of a color in my opinion), but it goes down hill from there. Upon the bottle, one catches a really off aroma. Maybe a bit of skunk mixed with soggy mildew. It is not the worst smelling beer ever but it comes close.

Flavor is just odd and muddled. A little bit of grain (but of course cornyness), a tingle of maple (one of the aspects I liked), and a strange aftertaste. Lingering cloying sweetness coupled with skunkyness.

Light to medium mouthfeel.

Overall, this beer was disappointing. But hey it is still better than the average American macro beer. If they labeled it as "Crappy American Beer" I would have given it a best in class. It certainly ranks up there with Coors. But wait, it cost almost $10 for a sixer. Bleh!

Paid $6.25 for a 6. Initial one cm head dissipates quickly. Nose is somewhat sweet. The initial taste is dreadful. It tastes closer to PBR than other low end corn bocks such as Shiner. There's nothing resembling Bock taste in this. This is a far cry from the previous LS Bock from the 90's. The brewers actually took pride in that brew. This one is simply another nasty swill from Pabst. What a shame that they put a Lone Star label on this.

AVOID.

Appearance:
Amber-gold color, clear. Lots of bubble rising up. Thick frothy head.

Aroma:
Faint. I get some sweetness and caramel.

Taste:
Sweetness, some toasted malts, caramel, maple syrup, a little corn adjunct. Bitterness is minimal. Finish is crisp and dry. Body is thin, super-dry, fizzy.
