Appearance: Thick-looking, with a nice frothy head.

Smell: Toasty malts. Subtle and pleasing.

Taste: Abolutely delicious! Slight sweetness balances the beer nicely.

Mouthfeel: Very rich and creamy!

Drinkability: Would make an excellent session beer. Disappointed I only have one 12 oz. bottle.

Wow, I'm suprised how much I love this beer! Hands down the best bottle of a mix-and-match six pack I shared with a friend. The taste lingered on to the next few beers, which was fine by me! It was hard to believe this was a lager, it was so rich and complex. But maybe thats because I haven't had many Munich Dunkel Lagers. I'll definitely try to find more good examples of the style, especially this one.

quite a nice treat i stumbled upon in ston, croatia. was dying for a dark beer and this one hit the spot. pours chocolate syrup color and texture. its got a velvety brown look to it with a small but lasting almost pure white head. smells like a huge malt bomb with plenty of amber, dark, and chocolate roasty malts. the flavor matches, as its definitely malt heavy, but its not sweet or sticky as i thought itd be.some caramel notes, but mostly just rich earthy malts. mouthfeel is hit and miss. its smooth as can be, tons of body and not at all filling, which is hard to do and appreciated, but its just a bit think. kind of syrupy in the mouth a little too much. overall though this was one i really enjoyed and would suggest it to anyone needing a dark brew in the land of pale euro piss.

Black with a tiny, mainly bubbly off-white coloured head that is short lived and as such a bit disappointing.

Dark, quite rich aroma from this one with some roasted malts and a nutty smell too. There is some caramel and light toffee notes along with some burnt sugar, touches of chocolate and darker fruits too.

Sweet to begin with along with lots of sugar and a touch of lighter coffee. I could detect some caramel, toffee and dark fruits such a figs and raisins.

Smooth with a good amount of carbonation, a medium body and plenty of sweetness. It goes down well, with a dry but not overly dry finish.

Very nice to drink and somewhat surprising considering I found this one in a Croatian supermarket in the height of summer. Even in almost 40 degree heat this one went down well with a solid flavour and great taste.

This beer poured out as a deep brown color with a fluffy light brown head on top. The smell of the beer was a little on the roasted side with some sweet fresh grains in there too. The taste of the beer had a decent roasted flavor with a little bit of caramel in there and a good bitterness in the end. The mouthfeel of the beer was pretty light and smooth. Overall this beer wasn't bad in my opinion.

A - Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. 2 fingers of tight bubbles. Some good lacing left on the sides of the glass.

S - Crystal malt, hints of cocoa, brown nut bread, roasted grain.

T - Sweet dark malts, brown sugar, hints of cocoa, sugary toffee-like malt, toasted nuttiness, hints of bittering chocolate swirl around the mouth at the end.

M - Light bodied, okay carbonation.

This doesn't stand out but is average for the style. Good aroma.

11.2 ml bottle poured into tumbler.

A: Pours a semi-transparent dark-brown with ruby highlights. 1-finger tan head settles into a light coating and leaves a small amount of lacing on the glass. If this was across the table, I'd throw my entire savings on this being a glass of Coca-Cola.

S: Not much in the nose other than sweet, fruity malts. Smells like brew day! For that, I approve.

T: Tough to really articulate this. Sweet malts are followed up by chocolate/toffee roasted qualities. Little to no hop presence whatsoever. Very clean, and - while sweet - far from being cloying. I like this.

M: Carbonation is medium-light. Creamy, although the finish is rather thin.

O: At 4.2%, this is a very sessionable dark lager. Recommended to me by the fine folks at RSVP in Portland, ME to match up with tomorrow's Easter ham, I'm happy I came about this. Reminds me of Negroni.

Nice dunkel.

The beer is clear dark brown, a tan head that settles rather quickly and leaves some lacing.

The smell is sweet, dark dried fruits.

Upfront sweet brown sugar, roasted almost burned tones, dark bread, coffee beans, dry fruits, dates, raisins.

Medium high carbonation, medium body, dry finish.

Rather refreshing, and more complex taste than expected!

Seems there are two listings here for the same exact beer, so I'll go with this listing which seems to rate slightly higher than the other.

Discovered at the Black Forest Inn in Minneapolis, MN this Austrian tap lager shows a nice Coca Cola brown color with a equally nice fuzzy light brown head and good lacing. The aroma brings a subtle but pleasant grassy caramel malt, clean grain close to a pilsner touch. The flavor brings notable brown sugar malt, brown bread with a light citrus hop touch at the tip of your tongue. Even a bit of dryness on the edges. Tingly carbonation with a medium light body and a somewhat peppery crisp feel. There's a little bayberry brightness to balance the malt sweetness. Plenty drinkable and refreshing.

Appearance - Typical dunkel color with a nice rush of carbonation after the pour. Not much head though.

Smell - Light mix of roasted malts and some brighter aromas that are maybe dark fruit.

Taste - Light roasted malt character throughout with a sweet background. No sourness which is excellent.

Mouthfeel - Crisp, maybe a touch too much so. COnsistency is appropriately light and consistent with the style.

Drinkability - This is pretty decent overall. It doesn't have the bad elements which bad examples of this style have like sourness in the taste or stinging aroma. Its solid.

Better than expected. Purchased from Koppa's on Milwaukee's East Side. Looks like a brownish red mix.

Taste, mellow, but not thin. Its there, its not demanding, a better mouthfeel than say Newcastle, which isn't an exact, but close comparison. This is definitely a more enjoyable example of this style than I am used to.

Drinkable, not knocking your socks off alcohol, price or complexity, it gets points for that.

A - Opaque dark brown with hues of deep ruby red. Nice creamy beige head.

S - Coffee, malt, golden syrup (sugar cane syrup).

T - Very pronounced flavours. Robust sweet malty taste with a balance of chocolate, roast coffee and wood. Some alcohol taste present. Some sort of creamy taste I can't identify.

M - Smooth medium body with moderate carbonation. Some creaminess.

D - Enjoyable, easy drinking and honest for its style.

330 ml bottle into pint glass.

Deep brown, with a little bit of light coming through at the bottom.

Light roasty aroma paired with a bit of brown sugar. There is also a creamy caramel overtone.

Immediately a smokey quality can be picked up in the flavor, with an almost spicy characteristic. Some almost-burnt malts are in the background. Full bodied.

A rather good Dunkel Lager. Recommended.

Appearance- Pours a frothy off white two finger head with moderate lacing and retention, beer is clear dark brown.

Smell- Leathery, earthy malts

Taste- Roasted malts and toasted caramels sweetness, somewhat resionus, hops are mild and unobtrusive.

Mouthfeel- Moderate and smoothly carbonated. Middling to heavy body.

Drinkability- Surprisingly heavy flavor and feel for low ABV. Looking to knock down a few full flavored German style dunkels. This beer could do it.

A: Pours a nice dark reddish-brown, with a decent light tan head with fair retention. Carbonation seems to be on the lively side.

S: Sweet, some hints of fruit and roasted malts. Hints of alcohol. The fruit is somewhat raisin-esque.

T: Sweetish caramel, raisins, perhaps some plum as well. Brown sugar and toffee flavors are present as well. Some faintly tealike notes are available as the beer finishes. Not too much in the hop department, just the faintest puckering dryness at the finish.

M: Medium body, smooth and definitely dry. For some reason not the most inviting mouthfeel, but certainly still decent.

D: It looks pretty nice, smells pretty good, and it's pretty tasty. Nothing wrong with this one. I'd have another.
