Puntigamer "Das "bierige" bier"
,5l can
.98€ @ BILLA, Singerstraße 6, Wien

Das "bierige" bier translates to "the beery beer", and I guess that's right. This was being sold as a Märzen, but it's clearly not that, it's just a mainstream Euro pils. It has a great appearance, but I felt the aroma was lacking, and the flavor wasn't that special either. It's got a basic maltiness, a moderate bitterness, and some floral and grassy hop flavors to it. Overall: drinkable but nothing special.

Drank while in Bad Gleichenberg.

Very light, almost completely transparent, with a well formed head.

The consistency is of a typical Euro pale lager, although the taste here is slightly disappointing and the mouthfeel is a tad too watery.

The smell is also very faint, some hops are noticed in the aroma, but almost no bitterness can be tasted. It's very drinkable, but then, so is water.

Got it from Austria.

A-Clear yellow,average one finger white foam,medium carbonation.
S-Nothing much special to smell, below average for pale's.
T/M-It tastes very old.. Like some school made lager. But,not the taste i like. A bit more bitter, unpleasant aftertaste.

O-Usual cheap EPL,pass it.

Sampled a bottle and a few drafts at Brauhaus Puntigam, Graz, Austria. - golden coloured, quite nice and little too sweet, a refreshing and overall above average beer. Foamy head with limited bitterness and little aroma, but overall a light enough beer to enjoy with food.

One of my favorite Pales. The carbonation in this beer is one of the biggest kicks in it for me. It also seems dark for a pale which is perhaps one reason I like it as well. The malt is nicely balanced and certainly not overdone. I like it, but don't recommend going out of your way for it

Had on tap in Wels, Austria.

Appearance: very light straw; very little head

Smell: little smell to speak of; a little grassy.

Taste: have to say that I didn't like it. Pronounced corn taste; also seemed overpasteurized with not much other flavor to speak of.

Mouthfeel: light, not overly fizzy.

Drinkability: I really had a hard time getting it down. The taste verged on unpleasant.

Austrian beers seem generally less hoppy than their German and Czech counterparts, but typically have a balanced (but light) level of malt and hops. The good flavors were so light on this one, that the less-desirable flavors were able to stand out.

A:Golden yellow and clear, with some bubbles appearing. Thick head of two to three fingers that stays for a long period. Good looking.
S: The smell is very, very light hops, and malt. Very standard for this kind of beer. I believe its actually too weak smell.
T: Grass and bread, very balanced. The beer has a very dim bitterness in the end, but its hard to tell. Watery, and no aftertaste. Very standard for this kind of beer, nothing impressive.
F: Medium to high carbonation, watery and refreshing. The feel is nice on a hot day.
O: Very refreshing beer. I'd say its pretty average, and I think Austria has better beers to offer (Gösser). However, it feels nice to drink it.

I've had this beer many times since moving to Austria -- in bottles, cans, and on tap. It has become my go to beer here. Pours nicely, usually with an inch of head if pour correctly. Has a light amber color, but is transparent. Traditional pale lager with no real distinct smell or flavor, however. It goes down smooth, though, and has a fresh flavor. They don't call it "the beery beer" for nothing.

Green gold color, white foam, average.
In the smell some flowers and camomile, a light touch of hop, and malt and honey.
The taste is too sweet and honey. Some need of hop here.
In the aftertaste too the honey is there, maybe too much. Just some hint of hop bitterness in the end.
Light body.

No one else had reviewed the can yet, and though I usually drink the bottle, I take one for the team. Thankfully, its not something difficult to take. (All of Brau Union's cans are actually canned 150 miles away in Vienna at the Schwechater brewery. Puntigamer, in addition to Goesser, is bottled at the main brewery in Goess).

At first, its appearance is a bit surprising...gigantic fluffy head that just wont seem to go away. I sat there for ten minutes or so sidetracked after pouring, and the head remained. But once its drank, no lace is left and it looks like your average boring mass produced lager. Aroma is straw based and maybe a bit grassy. No much to speak for or against here. Taste is simple and easy to put back. Puntigamer is the working man's beer in southern Austria. Its better than anything BMC puts out for the masses, but if youve had budwiser, you can imagine what this tastes like. A bit sweet, a bit dry and clean. Easy to drink but with so many decent bocks on the market now in Austria, why not choose something different?
