Had it at a bar in Prague.

A: Approching a neon yellow with a 3/4" head.

S: Dirty malth with a hint of sweetness.

T. First slightly tart and bitter, but quickly becomes sweet.

M: Initially a strong tartness that then mellows out. Light to medium bodied.

D: Disappointing for a Czech beer. But it's ok.

1.5L bottle consumed in CZ across the course of several hours during which there was a gadual increase in temperature.

A - golden yellow color with a white head:

S & M - rather typical Czech pilsner aroma and mouthfeel. Medium-light body with medium carbonation.

T - This beer seems to have a little more carbonation that makes it unique. Has some bitterness and a good kick as it goes down. But something about this one tastes a little better than other

O - a fairly typical light Czech lager, meaning a very good lager with no obvious flaws. This is what American macro lagers should taste like.

Kozel Svetly
500ml can, dated "28.12.13 L1 179 07:00" - 4 days old

Appearance: Clear, golden body. Frothy bright white head holds fairly well, eventually dropping to a thin but full surface covering. Average to slightly better than average lacing.

Smell: Fairly generic "beer" although some nice malt is present.

Taste: Malt again is the dominant, but the hops are almost equal, and well integrated: dull, spicy, and floral. The mid-level bitterness is "very firm" but not "strong". Unexciting dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Median carbonation.

Overall: With the exception of a malt that's slightly more interesting than the standard "Euro Pils" maltiness it's just an otherwise bland, average beer.

I was able to bring a can of Kozel Svelty home from a recent trip to Czech Republic. The beer poured a pale yellow with a white foam head that didn’t dissipate too quickly. NO real lacing. The smell included malt and grain/yeast. The taste was mildly bitter with grain/barley support. In addition there was a touch of sweetness. The mouthfeel was medium body and light carbonation. Overall is was a decent Czech style beer.

Slightly malty with a hint of fruity nose, reminding the Czech lager. Unfortunately, the first mouth does not taste but just a drink closer to water than beer. There is a slight bitterness in the finish but it is very dirty and mostly tasteless. Coming from the mythical city of Plzen in the Czech Republic, it is unfortunately far too small to claim to be the class of Czech pilsners

Yay can, picked up in Prague.

Pours a tall fizzy 3 finger head that fades at a med pace, nice lacing, crystal clear toasty tan color.

Nose light pislner malts, little corn syrup aroma, light macro adjunct, hint of grassy hops, light pilsner lager like aroma, touch fruity.

Taste crisp lager, light pilsner malts, toasty with hint of straw, just a touch of a corn adjunct like, some grasy hops with decent bitterness, light fruity lager flavors. Finish is crisp, fairly dry, bit more grassy bitterness, fairly bitter overall, light grassy malts too.

Mouth is lighter bod, decent carb.

Overall not bad, decent but not great either.

Appearance: Good head and lacing that stays throughout the drink. The head faded to a thin foam. Typical pale lager colour.

Aroma: Marshmallows and whitebready. Grainy. A nice bit of floral hop aroma.

Taste: I taste barley malt and floral hops in this really rather delicious Czech lager. It is delicately sweet and mildly bitter and floral.

Mouthfeel is light yet frothy and suggests a good water source is used.

Overall: A very good Czech lager in the 10 degree plato - 4% abv category.

M-Very carbonated and refreshing, Crisp.

O- It quenches my thirst for dirt cheap.

500ml bottle from Budapest

Pours pale golden with large head that for quite a long time remains dense and in one finger thickness. Leaves some thin and patchy lacing. Aroma is slightly fruity and grassy hops. Taste is quite simple, but well balanced bittery hops with light and long lasting bittery aftertaste. The beer is very refreshing.

Overall, very good Czech Pilsener.

I got this Kozel made in Dreher brewery in Budapest.

Smell is very nice,sweet.
Ap. is typical for Czech pilsner, low carbonation and few seconds lasting foam.
Taste-medim bitter,it is very drinkable.
On my opinion, this is typical pilsner, this one is made in Hungary, but it taste very solid.

BB 22-03-07.Pale yellow collored beer with white head. Nose is fresh and fruity with bit of maltarome next to some hops. Taste is style like and pale watery but missing a strong bitter finish. One of the many good available brews from Czech republik for a big session in warm weather or on an eveningparty.

White gold with a loose but lumpy pure white head that settles but doesn't fade. Fresh baked bread crust nose with coriander underneath.
Sour grain of cheap lager up front with subtler cracker and yellow berry, then mild leaf and cut grass.
Spicy end and sweet linger. Light, fluffy, half crisp, dry enough.

"Svetly" means light, so I'm trying to rate this against light beer standards. It's incredibly thin, almost airy, even then, and there's room for more hops. But still not as bad as it could be, or as bad as any BMC light beer option.

Nothing distinctive positive about this beer. No single fatal flaw, but enough little things that I'm not trying this one again. Flavor was watery; scent was "cheap beer," over-carbonated, and an aftertaste that curled the palate just a little.

Brought back from my girlfriend for me after a visit to the Czech Republic.

Appearance: Light, golden amber in color. Billowy white head that sticks around. Effervescent looking carbonation. No lace.

Smell: Grass, slight overripe fruit, generally mild aroma.

Taste: Light Saaz flavor prevails. Seems slightly watery. Bitterness is right for the style. Refreshing, at any rate.

Mouthfeel: Light, fizzy, but insipid finish & aftertaste.

Drinkability: Moderate on merits, but refreshing.

500ml bottle brought back from europe for me. drank out of my stone pint glass.

A- this one pours a clear golden colored body with a slight copper tint to it. a finger of white head forms on top and becomes no more than a skin on top of my glass in a couple of minutes. small spots of lacing are left behind.

S- a very mild smelling beer is the first thing i notice. very clean. sweet caramel and toffee malts. a little bit of noble hops at the end.

T- the taste is similar to the nose. semisweet caramel and toffee malts followed by a floral/herbal noble hops.

M- light to medium bodied with a high level of carbonation. crisp and clean. very refreshing.

D- easy to finish and something i could have a couple of if i had the chance. glad i got to try a beer i probably wont be able to buy in the states.

I had this one during a barbeque and i was surprised with the taste of this one. Not bad at all!

Poured in my Struise glass this beer looks good, nice and decent head which disappeared quit fast. Just like all the other i had from this region very little or no carbonation.

The taste is very balanced in my opinion. Malty and a bit sweet (but not too much).

Try it when you see it. Not a spectacular beer but in this style one of the better.

According to my crack research (Google Translate), "Kozel" is Czech for 'goat' and "Světlý" means 'blonde'. In fact, the brewery has a live goat named Olda as its mascot, though it's scruffy, grey and white whereas this beer is a clean, light and bright tone of yellow. It's quite a looker, with a fine, powdery head and bubbles that crowd the glass like mall shoppers at Christmas.

Kozel is perhaps the most widespread Czech beer brand, and as I understand it this is mainly credited to the fact that its production is carried out by contract brewers all around the world. I have a hard time believing all these licensees offer the same degree of character and integrity of the original brewery; the Kozel I've had in Canada has little resembled a true Czech pilsner...

Fortunately, this can of Kozel Svétlý comes direct from the Czech Republic (thanks, little sister!). The comparison is night and day: this smells of clean cereal grain and grassy, floral hops, whereas the product sold under the Kozel name here drinks like a combo of corn syrup and cardboard.

Granted, this is a different recipe altogether - but at 4%, Svétlý would have even less room to hide hop extracts and cheap adjuncts. This one drinks clean through and through, with brisk carbonation and snippy, lightly spicy hop bite providing highly quenching qualities.

Kozel Svétlý offers traditional European quality and everyday drinkability. Whereas a lot of lagers nowadays are bland, insipid, and modeled more as 'beers for those that don't really like beer', this "light" pilsner compromises little of the style's true characteristics. But as with most things, it's better straight from the source (and, I'm sure, tastes best *at* the source!).

I really don't like this beer. However it is very popular Czech beer and I don't know why? Maybe because the price is low. But the biggest problem what I have with this beer is that after 2 or 3 bottles my head going to crash. Very strong headache every time, that is why I don't drink this anymore...

Bright golden color with an apparent carbonation that feeds a constant head.
Aroma of sweet pale malt and floral and herbal hops.
Flavor of a pilsner, sweet pale malt with herbal hops. Dry aftertaste with a mild bitterness.
Light body with good carbonation.
A milder and refreshing czech pilsner. Decent with no flaws, but no big excitement.

Poured at a good temperature with a small, foamy, off-white head that settled to a ring and an island and no lace. Color is a clear gold with loads of bubble trails. Aroma is grain, beer, malt, hop, yeast. Flavor is like nose with moderate malt sweetness and strong carbonic tang up front and other stuff behind. Generally flavor is somewhat subdued. Body is good and carbonation perhaps a smidgen too strong. Finish is like flavor, tang lasts longest, and is an ok beer. Not as good as I recall from some years back in the late 80s, early 90s.

this is way better than all the other half liter euro beers ive been drinking all summer. aroma is almost like oatmeal, starchy and grainy, but not heavy. flavor is fresh baked, without any malt sweetness or filling qualities. delicious round finish that never turns bitter or metallic. mouthfeel is excellent and surprising. really foamy and creamy and smooth, not overcarbonated, but excited and jovial. served ice cold this is a pretty good beer, although its main criticism would be the alcohol content. too low to cop a good buzz on a handful of coins. overall a very enjoyable first beer after leaving sarajevo, a significant upgrade from many of the offerings there.

Beautiful foam, creamy. Limpid, clear golden blond color.
In the smell malt and some hop, a bit stale.
Same for the taste.
The bottle is near to the best before date, so not to fresh. A fresh bottle would be almost surely a bit better, and for sure a great drinkability beer.
Probaly some half point more, except for the appearance.
