I live near the bar but only have headed there a couple of times. Part of the reason is simply that it is near Jupiter and Triple Rock. Don't have very good selection of beers. Maybe half a dozen on tap and a dozen or so more available in bottles. They have a pretty good selection of scotch, however. On the lower level there is a stage and the music has been good when I've been there. However, the stage is located in a position that doesn't allow a ton of people to watch--Only a few tables on the upper level and whoever is at the bar.

Beckett's is not a destination if you're a beer affecienado looking to try something new. The main draw is the extremely homey Irish-pub atmosphere (very authentic), but like Ireland itself the beer selection is fairly limited...Harps, Guinness, Boddies, etc with one or two microbrews.
This is best for a date or gathering of friends. They do serve food, which tends to be good quality pub food but expensive for what you get.
All in all, a worthwhile stop on any Berkeley pub crawl for the vibes alone, but you will find better beer at Jupiter, Triple Rock, Albatross, etc.

Not really a beer bar but certainly a decent American Irish pub. Tap list of eleven beers and one cider includes Harp, Bass, Guinness, Stella, Lagunitas IPA, New Castle, Heineken, Chimay Tripel, Fat Tire, Boddingtons, and a Hefe. Bottle list consists of 9 macros. Service was slightly on the too cool for school unfriendly side. I didnt try the food, if there was any
Ok, now for the good part. Becketts actually has a pretty decent décor. Its certainly better than the chain Fo-Irish places that have been springing up all over the country these past few years. Its warm, dark, and cozy. The bar is well divided to provide space for intimate conversations or catching a ruckus game of football. The location is excellent. Becketts is just a two minute walk from Jupiter and a five minute walk from either Triple Rock or the Bears Lair so if youre in the area for any of those you might as well stop by Becketts for a pint.

I asked that this bar be added to BeerFly and I'm happy to see that's its finally on here.
In June 2002 I spent a week in Berkeley at a training course. We found this place across from our hotel. As soon as you walk in you totally feel like you've been transported to Ireland. The building has two floors with a bar on both. The atmosphere is as close to what I would imagine an actual Irish Pub being like. The food is classic pub-fare. We ate there 4 times and I can't say there was a bad thing on the menu. Its all pretty good. The service was excellent. The wait staff is extremely friendly and were very sociable. The bartenders and barmaids were all Irish and a lot of fun to hang out with. They weren't afraid to call you a "wee girl" if you weren't drinking fast enough either! Beer selection I rated a little lower because honestly I pretty much drank pints of Harp the entire time and really don't recall what else they had on tap, but I'm sure it was pretty decent.
If you're ever in the Bay Area and happen to be in Berkeley I highly recommend stopping in. I guarantee you won't regret it!
