This brown ale did not have the characteristics I prefer in this type of beer -- hints of nuts and chocolate, nice lacing around the glass, and very easy to drink. A little too hoppy for my taste with malt flavor. Appears nice on tap and at $2.50 a pint, I would continue to purchase, just not on the top of the list for brown ales.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle to a pint glass.

A: Dark mahogany brown, clear, with sparse head. Nice lacing.

S: Practically no aromas to note. With strong agitation, you can derive some sweet malt smells and perhaps something more, fig maybe.

T: Extremely well balanced with a hint of nuttiness in the complex mix of light & medium malts. I know there are hops here due to the balance but they really do not come forth for their proper due. The finish is brisk, clean, with nothing more than a fleeting memory of the malty mixture.

M&D: Mouthfeel is full, but not particularly heavy. Carbonation is moderately light which matches the flavors nicely. Although not a great fan of brown ales, this one is rather good. I found this highly enjoyable and would seek it out when available. Very nice.

Presentation: 12oz brown bottle. Freshness is clearly marked. Notes on the breweries origin and purity practices adorn an orange, brown and gold label.

Appearance: Leathery brown with a cream coloured head.

Smell: Sweet malt aroma with a little bit of caramel.

Taste: Rich mouthfeel with a smooth up-front caramel sweetness, changing into a defined crisp dryness (Burton-on-Trent style) that shadows the hop bitterness. This beer goes nutty in the middle and gradually finishes stronger.

Notes: A nice modern day American Brown Ale. On the dry side, but packed with a fullness of flavours.

A nice session beer. Served in a pint glass, it was a reddish/brown color with a moderate sized tan head. A sweet, cherry aroma, some malt, and a tiny bit of chocolate. The taste was sweet, with a little chocolate, and some hop bitterness. I really enjoyed the 6pack, and will drink it again.

The Brooklyn Brown poured ruby-brown with a big, fluffy, light brown head that showed excellent retention.

The aroma was nutty chocolate with a slight fruity hop note.

It was medium bodied (a little on the thin side) with nice carbonation. The taste was a surprisingly big fig flavor initially with lots of chocolate and nuttiness. It had a crisp, very subtle bitter, and slight metallic finish.

Overall, a nice, drinakable brown ale. It reminded me of a cross between a New Belgium Abbey and a porter.

Nice amber/rootbery medium dark and clear. Not much head, tiny bit of white rint around the edge with a dusting in the center. Mainly malty scents, lightly dark.. Tastes of roasted malts, darkened toast, bit of merlot. Med/highly carbinated, almost soda-like... just a step below maybe? Or as if you let your soda sit for a bit... carb is just a tad high feeling on this for me... Easy drinker though, not too heavy at all, and the flavors are very nice and not too intense, just very good and highly drinkable.

Presentation: It was poured from brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. On the label there is a best before date.

Appearance: The body has a dark mahogany color with a light tan head on top. The head quickly fades down to just a ring on bubbles around the edge of the glass. The lacing is mostly slick and slides down the glass with just a little bit sticking to the glass.

Smell: The aroma sweet with hints of roasted and toasted malt.

Taste/Mouth Feel: Up front the flavor has a nice sweet bready malt with hints of roasted barley, caramel and toffee. The hop flavor is mellow but adds very good balance to the finish. It has a big round and smooth texture with soft carbonation and a solid medium to full body.

Notes: Over all this is one very tasty brown Ale.

The look of this beer is dark brow, the amazing part is the thick creamy head it is like a draft nitro

the aroma is nutty full of crystal malts and sweet buttery aroma is very nice

taste is classic Brooklyn malty threw and threw starts with a sweet buttery mouth and carbonation builds. The taste mellows out with crystal malt and caramel finish. the finish is smooth.

Pours brown (surprise!) with a smallish head. Smells slightly nutty, mild caramel and a pinch of floral hoppiness. Tastes of some caramel, little bit more nuttiness, balanced out by a touch of hop bitterness. Slightly dry, good carbonation. Solid brown ale.

A- Medium brown with a small off-white head that fades leaving no lacing.

S- Semi-sweet chocolate smell dominates with some caramel/toffee and bit of fresh baked cookies.

T- Again the semi-sweet chocolate character comes through up front with a crsip biscuit and cookie middle and a finish of bitter hops and chocolate.

M- Nice medium body with a medium high carbonation that makes it feel pleasantly foamy and not harsh.

O- A really good beer. I've had mixed feelings on the Brooklyn beers I've had in the past but this one is quite tasty. Very chocolaty in character, almost to the extent of Young's Chocolate Stout.

Pours dark brown with ruby highlights and no head to speak of. Aroma is nutty, toasty, carmel. Taste is lightly roasted malts and carmel. Little alcohol presence. Mouthfeel is fairly thin for the style. Decent pairing with hearty meal at this price point.

Pours a clear mahogany body with a beige head that is small, but lasting. Moderate patch lace all over the glass.
Aroma has lots of roasted malt notes. Chocolate and espresso, with notes of walnuts. Earthy and woodsy hops provide a balanced bouquet.
Mouthfeel is light medium bodied with an ideal medium carbonation.
Taste is malty chocolate, with a solid hops bitterness that is grassy and earthy. Walnut nuttiness emerges in the middle, and stays through the finish.
One of the better American brown ales I've sampled, but I still don't favor the style. This one exudes quality, and would be excellent with blue cheeses.

Nice subtle maltyness. Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Hops well in background, mellow , with a slight grainy texture. Very drinkable, pleasant quaffer.

On tap at Redbones, Somerville, MA.

So I've never been a fan of Brown Ales, but I want to be, especially after Tommyknocker's Imperial Brown, which I have been enjoying immensely for the last month or so. I figured if I'm going to give it a shot I could do worse than Brooklyn.

I respected this beer very much for the way it was crafted, but did not enjoy drinking it. I just don't like the style.
