Served from a 12oz. bottle with a May 2009 freshness date.
A: Not the thin, watery yellow pour I expected, but darker and not entirely see through. I'm watching small bubbles of carbonation make their way up to a thin white film. The head dissipated quickly.
S: Pretty nice aromatic blend of semi-sweet malt tones and some hop character.
T & M: The carbonation is pretty strong, and somewhat of a deterrent to the overall taste, which is milder, less distinctive than I feel like it should be. Then I remind myself it's a lager. It nevertheless contains a pleasing malt presence on the front with hop notes emerging on the tail end that are sort of piquant after the bubbly sip.
D: Back in college I would get in moods for a session with Newport Storm amber ale but sometimes grew disappointed by its almost syrupy malt sweetness after one or two. This could have been a lighter, but still earnest, replacement. Better late than never.
