Served from a Fatheads growler into a Penn Weizen glass. The color is a dark copper, with a white head that holds a good bit. The smell is full of banana-ish esters with just a slight hint of a caramel/chocolate maltiness. The taste is definitely dominated by the hefeweizen-ish banana/clove flavors and just a bit of the bock-ish flavors (slightly caramel and chocolatey) with a strong unfiltered yeastiness and very little alcohol noticable (if any). Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated along with a yeasty taste to it. As for drinkability, this is simply amazing and even at 8.2% I could drink this one all day!!

Thanks to Garrett Oliver for sending this gem out to Pittsburgh. Of all the weizenbocks I've had, I think this is the one that's the most weizen-ish of them all, with such a nice clovish and banana flavor, and as such is so amazingly and deceivingly drinkable. I would love to drink this all summer, and I hope I'll get the chance!!!!

Small, dense, dark cream colored head fades slowly to a thin film leaving rings of lace. Rich yeasty, bready banana, and light cloves in the aroma. Hazy apple cider looking beer glows with light. Lightly sweet malt flavors up front followed quickly by yeast and banana. Alcohol and slight bitterness towards the end help to cut the sugary flavor. Mouthfeel is soft and thick without being heavy. Damn, it's so addictive!

Sampled this at the brewery during a pubcrawl of Brooklyn. We started here. This is probably the best product I've ever tasted from Brooklyn Brewery. Poured into clear plastic cups. Very dense head and, later, lacing. Smells like bananas from the yeast/yeast esters. Tastes like bananas with a touch of cloves. Smooth and nicely carbonated, which also helps the appearance. Very drinkable.

On tap tonight at the Flat Rock Saloon here in Manayunk. A perfect beer to end this day with...a tough presentation at work, a new pope chosen today...this was just what I needed. Drinkability marks are high, as I joyfully cleared a few pints of this delicious nectar.

Pours a light muddy, cloudy brown from the tap. Rich aroma of caramel and spicy banana clove. Taste is nicely complex, with the flavors layering upon each other. Caramel and chocolate, the spicy clove and banana flavors, along with a slight note of smokiness and bitter hop residue. Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated and all in all very smooth and a touch on the creamy side. Not typical of this style, but very nice. I had 3 pints of it...the only 3 pints I drank on the night. Highly drinkable, and extremely tasty. I would like to find this beer more often in Philly.

Wow! Brooklyn seems to be on a roll with their specialty draft beers, and this one may just top them all! There haven't been alot of beer out there lately that have been able to draw me back to the bar, but this one did! Additionally, I normally drink a different beer with each round, but I couldn't help but have 2 or 3 of these each time I sat down.

The body is a dark chestnut with orange highlights beneath a creamy head of ivory froth. The retention is quite good for a beer with 8.2% alcohol by volume, and it leaves some nice lace at the outset of the glass.

It delivers the typical weizen yeast aroma (which is sometimes more restrained than this in weizenbocks); and it's delicate clove and ripe banana notes swirl over a delicate caramel-accented maltiness.

Its supple, lightly dextrinous medium-full body is gently enhanced by a fine-bubbled, somewhat restrained carbonation, and it caresses the tongue before sliding smoothly away from the palate.

The flavor is luxuriously malty and flavorful without being over over-the-top, and it's left amazingly drinkable for a beer of its size. The alcohol is never to be found, and it's cocoa-sprinkled caramel maltiness and delicate ripe-banana/clove/bubblegum yeastiness ropes you in. It's superbly balanced by a firm bitterness, and it finishes drying without ever building on the palate.

If I had known it would have be this good, I'd have ordered a keg for myself!!! And although I sometimes suggests food pairings in my beer reviews, I really don't think this one needs it. In fact, it's perfectly good just on its own, and that's how I'd suggets you enjoy it. Can't wait for more!!!

A different recipe from the original Weissbock released about 4 years ago. I only had one serving at that time, but never reviewed it. Let's see how this version does.
Pours a cloudy, orangey-brown into my 23 oz Brooklyn Brewery weisse glass. Creamy, light tan head with tiny bubbles that give way to some decent lacing. Thin layer of foam remains throughout the glass. Strong aroma of banana and clove. Classic weiss phenols. Slightly sweet followed by some toffee and bread. Not really getting any chocolate like I do with Ramstien's Winter Wheat. Very drinkable for an 8% beer. Could drink it all night.

On draft at the Drafting Room.
Appears a cloudy dark brown/amber with a huge, fluffy tan head that retains nicely. Beautiful streaks of lacing is left all around the glass.
Smell is of rich wheat, caramel, bubblegum, banana, cloves.
Taste is of the same aromas with a touch of cocoa powder.
Mouthfeel is slightly sweet with nice hop balance and low carbonation. Lightly spiced with a semi dry finish.

On-tap @ Mugs. Dark ruddy brown amber with a nice head of white/khaki foam that died slowly, and left nice lace patterns. The aromas are all cloves, bananas, other spices, fruity yeast esters, and more. This is one phenolic mother of a brew. Brash and yeasty, but not too alcoholic or over the top. The taste is a well integrated one. Bready malty, sticky background hops, spices, cloves, and more. This is great stuff. Creammy and oh-so-smooth going down the gullet, and drinkable as all get out. This is a true champion of this style, and another jewel in Brooklyns crown.

I finally got to try Brooklyn's latest at the Gingerman after work yesterday. It
pours a inviting shade of caramel brown, very cloudy/murky. Arrives with a puffy tan had, that morphs to a creamy light 1/8 inch film and leaves well developed and splattered lacing. The nose is of bananas and yeasty malts. This a very smooth and well rounded brew. Crisp, tart, sweet all at once, complex and intriguing. Notes of more bready malts, fruits and alcohol, with some bonus spicy phenolics in the back ground. The bartender described this as a "poor mans Adventinus." Some more spice and bite is found in the finish. I really enjoyed this fine offering fom BKLYN brewing.

@ the brewery, on the 'reserve' tap handle.

appearance: cloudy brown with nice aggressive foam and active bursting bubbles on the surface.

aroma: belgian yeast nose mixed with sweet caramel and candied fruits. dark in its wheatiness.. deep aromas that i really enjoy inhaling.

taste: sugary malt with orange hints. lots of clove and some cinnamon hints as well. bold. heavy. wheat notes are surprisingly subdued, but add to the fruity tang.

mouthfeel: thick but refreshing. 3 of these down the hatch and im stumbling out of the brewery with a dumb as balls smile on my face. listed as 8% at the brewery.

The beer arrived in the bitsy glass cloudy and hazy with an amber golden color and a low, dense and very persistent head. (Would have liked to seen this one in better glassware.)

The aroma was fruity with a nice banana and clove mix and a soft round wheat aroma. The more it warmed the more fruity it became. Very nicely accomplished!

The flavor was banana with a very low clove flavor and a very nice wheat flavor and mouthfeel. Alcohol may have been present, but it was well done if so.

The finish was not quite dry with a strong lasting banana and wheat flavor long into the aftertaste. The body was just above medium and well done. Very nice beer with no real alcohol aromas, flavors or warming after consumption.

10 ounce glass at Summits in Cumming, GA.

On tap with a Brewmaster's Reserve tap handle. Enough to persuade me. This beer is a deep orange brown color, unfiltered, and comes topped with a thin head of yellow stained tan head, which had nearly no retention. Immediately I notice the body is really thin for a bock. In any case, the smell is a sweet basket of banana bread, some oranges, and a handful of cloves. It's nice. The first sip confirms my thoughts that this is amazingly thin for a weizenbock. The carbonation doesn't stand up and this comes across like a glass of ice tea. It's quite all right however, and if anyone else can make a beer with 8+% drink like that, I'd like to see them try. The flavor is of nice malted wheat, raw and sweet, and the esters and phenols churned out by the yeast don't dissapoint. This has all the banana, orange, lemon, clove, nutmeg and pepper you'd expect. I like it quite a bit. Definitley one to try if it's there.

The latest in the Brooklyn Brewmaster's Reserve line, served at a kick-off party at The Gate in Brooklyn... really a special event, with Garrett Oliver present, many good stanky cheeses, and a special Brooklyn Monster on draft, but that's another story...

The weissbock was hard to see in the dimly lit Gate, but holding it to a candle revealed a color much like apple cider, sort of orange/amber, and a bit hazy. The head was nice and fluffy, as a good weissbeer should.
The nose reveals a big banana and clove note, along with bubble-gum and a slight non-offensive sourness.
Holy banana Batman -- the flavor has the classic banana-clove characteristic, along with some bubblegum and a little bit of peppery spice. The yeast is really doing its thing here. This is a fairly sweet beer, and it's not too far off from the recently released abbey ale.
It is deceptively strong -- you feel like you're drinking a hefe, but man, you're not. It's like summer in winter, f&%$in great for a (extremely cold) March Brooklyn night.
I told Garrett that it tasted like the Brooklyn Weiss on crack. He jokingly replied, "We prefer to think of it as the Weiss on steroids."
Indeed.

This beer has a definate Yoo- Hoo look to it in a glass - cloudy brown with a soapy, frothy head.

Yeasty aromas of banana and clove underlying a heavy crystal malt sweetness. The strong caramel notes are not cloying and work very well with the classic Hefe nose.

Flavor is hugely sweet up front - rich gooey malt wraps the toungue in a syrupy blanket while tart, grainy wheat flavors keep it lively and interesting. Bittering is strong at the finish with a lingering bite that compliments the fruit and alcohol aftertaste.

Nicely complex if a bit raw in flavor. Mouth feel is on the heavy side of medium but it tastes very full and slightly underattenuated. Stiff carbonation and the crisp wheat character subdues the thickness and heavy caramel sweetness. I enjoyed 1 pint, but moved on to something lighter for #2.

On draft at the brewery. Tons of carbonation rising up. Very cloudy and the color of homebrewed iced tea or unfiltered cider. Creamy rich head the color of manilla folder (I swear) that you can just slightly see through, and some sparse bubbles. Wonderful head retention. Strong bananas and spices, fresh nutmeg and a hint of cloves. Can really feel the carbonation, it almost foams up a bit in your mouth. Peppery hints with a lot of spiceyness and yeast. Reminds me of orange rinds.... For some reason I also keep thinking of mustard seeds -like in the good grainy spicey mustards, but am not sure why... Well balanced. Nicely drinkable and would be very enjoyable on a warm spring day.

Pured a medium and hazy amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of wheat, light bananas, bread, and light spices. Tastes of bananas, spices, some bread, and had a candi sugar sweetness. Alcohol content well hidden with the body on the thinner side.

Appearance: Unpasteurized, unfiltered apple cider with a head. Head disappears completely after a few minutes, leaving it looking *exactly* like a good autumn apple cider. Completely opaque. Unique!

Smell: Banana Now n' Later candy. Banana taffy. Yeasty bubble gum. Light baking spices. Enticing.

Taste: Sweet banana up front with a hint of spicy cinnamon and fermented apple. Alcohol and wheatiness in the middle with a waft of citrus. Finish is tart and warming from the alcohol. Very nice!

Mouthfeel: Thick, rolling, nectary, dense. Complex in it's mouthfeel without being a maze. Full bodied and full of character.

Drinkability: For its thickness, it's tough to drink fast but definitely above average.
