We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer that’s beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You won’t even know what hit you.

I enjoyed this on tap at Tyler's Taproom in Apex, NC.

Served in a Brooklyn tulip glass, the brew was a pale yellow in color with a rather abundant white head of perhaps 2-3 fingers. It was hard to judge in the lighting of the restaurant but it seemed just a touch hazy.

Lots of citrus hops on the nose, very floral and fragrant, but it didn't seem to sting the nostrils like some heavy hitting IPAs. It was more even and light. Very nice.

The flavors of this were not as I expected for an Imperial IPA. Light clean maltiness made up the backbone of the brew but it was the wonderful mix of hops that brought it together. There was plenty of hop flavors without that intense hop bite that is so common. The finish was clean and crisp with just a nice delicate hop linger. Very good! The mouthfeel was perfect for the brew - light persistent carbonation helped to keep everything light on the tongue.

Very enjoyable. If you like hops you would probably like this but don't expect that hard bite. Nice and enjoyable. This should be a standard product for Brooklyn!!

There have been disappointing pours attempting to empty a pint can into a clear glass liter mug, but this is memorable as among the worst. The stark white foam produced is a bad as it gets. It seems to be ever expanding, then it quickly recedes, leaving an uneven and unattractive "head" that leaves some sticky, but sporadic glass lacing. Already, it will be shocking if this measures up to the best in the other categories. Foam like this usually indicates barley malt deprived, which isn't good for a proper IPA. The aroma is hoppy enough, in a piney and earthy way; but, no surprise here, there's no scent of malt. Even a good West Coast IPA should have a dose of barley malt. Another sign that things might not be close to optimal here is the near translucence of the standard beer amber. As expected, the mouthfeel is thin, not just light, thin. The taste is average for something that delivers some mild hopping, piney is as good a guess as any, without much starch backing. Even hop lovers will miss the malt counterbalance from this one and quickly move on. This may include barley malt as an ingredient, but not to the level that would salvage this mess. Bottom line, if you're interested, don't bother.

Solid classic style of a DIPA. Not a NE. Heavy in the malt base alcohol hidden well with a medium body. Does surprising how down easy for a DIPA. Not much bitterness either.

Very hoppy aroma with the typical full IPA taste. A bit generic. Very boozy.

750 ml corked bottle, as Brooklyn Blast! (Ghost bottle), at an exclusive tasting with Garrett Oliver. ABV is 8.2%, 65 IBU. Brewed with "half-and-half" American and English hops. Orange colour, moderate white head. Both aroma and flavour are dominated by American hops, but not too extreme. Also notes of crystal malts, some sweetness. Decent beer.
