12 oz bottle BB Jan 2016. Poured into a pint glass. Almost clear golden orange with a small half inch white head. Not much lacing. Smell is mango, orange, and some biscuit. Very similar taste with some pineapple and grapefruit. Slick feel, not much carb. Another really good beer from Brooklyn. Cheers!

I do so like this brewery.
Sweet, musty, herby, spicey aroma with just enough heaviness and some fruit rolling around in there too.
Pale hay colored and rather cloudy. Smaller white head than many.
So smooth in flavor and feel. Plenty of hops, largely resembling the aroma. A real subtle fruitiness up front starts the drink off nicely. This holds a touch of malt sweetness to it as well. A mildly heavy bitterness, but not tongue ripping and a rather shorter life in finish. The firmness of the pale malts rounds this off nicely.
Moderately to more in feel. Moderate carbonation.
This is neither a hair raiser or trend setter. Just a beer done to style, which is what I appreciate so much about this brewery.

Nothing wicked ground breaking here as we have a golden and clear beer with a foamy white head, offering slight lacing. Nose is a little lackluster as only faint pine and a little sweetness come through. Taste is a magnified version of the nose but a touch cloying on finish in an otherwise mid-full bodied feel.

From bottle, pours hazy golden colour with a medium white head and nice lacing. Aroma passionfruit, sweet citrus, tropical fruit. Taste similar to aroma, tropical fruits etc. lovely.

Seems like kind of an odd duck - like there was something more going on here, but the show's over. Aroma is oxidized hop, woodsy, caramel. Flavor's like nose, overly sweet. Overall ok

On tap.
Deep Amber body with an OK head but persistent visible carbonation.

Bready and hoppy aroma.

The flavor has a subdued citrus hop blast; subdued by the very generous load of sweet and medium roasted malts. Unusually sweet for style, although the bitterness is more pronounced.in the finish.

Lightly syrupy, medium+ body. Medium-low carbonation.

O: very flavorful but surprisingly sweet for style. An attempt at a Brooklyn Hopslam?

Pours a slightly hazy darker golden amber color with off-white head. Pine, herbal notes, floral notes, and light fruits on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with a nice stickiness for a DIPA.

Pours a three-fingered white head that quickly fades leaving traces of lace. Light hazy amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Pine hop nose and flavor is pine hops and some caramel. Higher ABV is hidden. $3.69 for a 12oz bottle from Julio's Liquors Westborough, MA.

Right off the bat I will tell you that this does not taste like a double ipa, which isn't a bad thing. The name Blast is pretty appropriate for this one. First sip if very fizzy and citrus filled, then you get light hit if bitterness and lemon, then to finish off you get a full taste of bread/cracker. A great IPA for hot weather. Very crisp.

Ratings are correct below, but I changed some marks above to make the final rating as close as possible with Beer Advocate's "revamped" system. The 3.88 overall rating is accurate.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: 8-oz. glass
From: Whole Foods in Albany, N.Y.
Price: $10.99 for a 4-pack
Purchased: July 4, 2015
Consumed: July 8, 2015

Poured a golden, pale, clear color with two fingers of frothy, white head. Good foamy layered lacing on the sides. Great retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled wet Cascade, Citra, orange rind, pine, pineapple, tropical and soapy notes. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted Citra, tropical, nectarine juice, pineapple, mango and pine. (Taste - 3.88)

Light body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 4.00)

This was a pretty good IIPA. The next three will be nice to have as well. (Overall - 3.88)

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #84 (Jan 2014):

Very excited to run into the brew again. Hand it to Brooklyn Brewery for this big IPA that is like no other. A perfect blend of American and English hops with a solid malt backbone that holds up all the way to the end. Within the balance is a dangerous drinkability … thankfully, the warmth from the alcohol is a reminder of its strength.

STYLE: American Double IPA
ABV: 8.4%

LOOK: Pale golden hue, perfect clarity, thin lacing

SMELL: Earthy hop, leafy, apple peel, faint evergreen, ripe pears, herbal, clean alcohol

TASTE: Mild crispness, medium bodied, juicy, spicy, woodsy, melon, estery, earthy, dried bready tone, orangey, peppery, mild hop resin, fallen apple, dried hay, warming; drying, hoppy finish

Minimal head, retention, and lacing. Nice medium honey color with a slight haze. Nice, well balanced aroma with light clean piney aroma. Nice well-balanced flavor which follows the nose. Slight lingering bitterness. Overall a very nice example.

Very small head when poured into my snifter. A burnt orange color. Very nice. Smell is wonderful. Floral, citrusy, bready, some pine, grapefruit. Tastes of tangerine, orange pith, grapefruit, pineapple, a little honey, virtually no malt. Booze on the back end. Finishes a little dry. Great DIPA. Would love to try this on draft.

Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of intense citrus notes with light bitter flavors. Taste is dominated by intense citrus hops flavors with light piney notes and some residual sugar. Some bitterness is discernable. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed but doesn’t really stands out from the pack and a bit too much bitterness for my taste.

Picked this up at Four Firkins in Minneapolis. The best by date states it's good for another three months. Poured at about 55 degrees into a pint glass.

L: Pours a crystal clear amber with about an inch of off-white head that falls after a bit and leaves good cling on the glass. Plenty of visible carbonation.

S: Not much of a bouquet on this one. There's some pine and citrus hop notes present, along with some of the caramel malt underside.

T: Very smooth and well-rounded flavors on this one--it's no hop bomb. The malts and hops have an equal say at the front. The hops are somewhat earthy, but not overtly piney, citrusy, or funky. Of those three, this one leans toward the pine. The middle is smooth, with the malts continuing to have a say. Clear alcohol begins to emerge in the middle and carries over into the back. The end is decidedly hop bitter, resinous but not quite sticky. It finishes without any syrupy quality, but the bitter does linger for a bit.

F: Medium-bodied, smooth, and a bit creamy. The middle and back brighten things up, and the close is warming alcohol and bitter.

O: This is a nice, balanced DIPA that doesn't want to simply overwhelm with the hops. There's definitely good hop flavor to be had, but the malts don't take a back seat here. I tend to enjoy DIPAs with bigger, bolder flavors, so that certainly colors my rating a bit. But this is definitely one I would try to get a hold of if you can--I would certainly revisit it.

This is a sipper to be savored. Let it roll to sides of tongue, you get orange. I like the slight alcohol bite so it warns you where you are headed. Aroma got me onboard to begin with, pineapple. Wish I knew the hops and when added. Brooklyn can malt/hop balance a beer and did it again. Can't think of anything I don't like about it. From a bottle. Hope to find on tap.

L - Pours a clear light orange/straw with a small head that fades quickly.
S - Faint malty aroma.
T - Alcohol burn, slight maltiness and no hops.
F - Medium-ish.
O - It's like a homebrew misfire. I'm a fan of BB so this is a big disappointment. I'll chalk it up to a bad batch (best by Sept 2015)

12 oz bottle. enjoy by SEPT 2015.

A: pours a very clear slightly tinted golden body.

S: malty and hoppy. heavy on the pine.

T: the flavor drinks more like an American barleywine than a DIPA. a mild caramel malt flavor, minor booze heat, pine hop flavor. nothing is too over the top, making it a pretty easy drinking, balanced DIPA.

M: average on a very full body.

D: overall this is a full bodied, well balanced brew. no frills, but nothing wrong with that. wouldn't expect less from Brooklyn.

Comes out of the growler a clear amber with a thick, fluffy off-white head - not impressive, but never judge a book by its cover. Aroma is very strong and very hoppy with a firm grapefruit note and a hint of orange. Very hoppy flavor has little bitterness but plenty of sour citrus, mainly grapefruit and some orange. Lively texture has about average body and firm fizz. Have a blast!

12oz bottle served in pint glass. Beer is overwhelmingly carbonated, hazy golden in color, and produces a massive white head. Piny-sweet aroma, like a Belgian IPA / strong pale ale or even a barleywine. Flavor is solidly DIPA with a considerable malt backbone, which leaves the finish decidedly off-dry. This is extremely drinkable for a brew with an 8.4% punch and a good load of IBUs. The malt flavor is not so distinct, just caramelly sweet. Delicious as this is, I'm afraid it's probably a ticking hangover bomb. I love Brooklyn but this new (to me) offering lacks the finesse of other American craft brewers' takes on this style.

-pours a cloudy golden-orange with a small,quickly dissipating off-white head
-low-medium carbonation visible
huge mango, pineapple, passionfruit, pine resin and slight grapefruit notes
follows the nose with pine resin taking the dominant role plus some honey notes creeping in and a very toasty finish
-medium carbonation,no alcohol detectable
As a DIPA its very good,i just cant really get into this style

Gold draft pour with white head. Grapefruit and pine aromas. Grapefruit, pine and grass hop flavors balance with semi sweet malt foundation. Medium mouthfeel, resinous tongue coating. Very enjoyable east coast style.

This beer just didn't do it for me. Lots of malt sweetness and not a lot of hop smell or taste. Even for an East Coast IIPA, just not on par with others in the style.

355ml Bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (£4.80):
This was a beer that started out really well for me, there was a lot of tropical fruits on the nose and plenty of hops too but when it came to the taste I felt it was all over the place with too much sourness and the hops being overpowered by the apricot and citrus flavours. The beer still remained drinkable but it was a real let down after smelling the beer, the balance seemingly off a little and a body that felt over-carbonated into the bargain.
