Brooklyn Blast is a fantastic and unique DIPA. It's got a huge tropical fruit and citrus blast with a slightly grainy caramel malt base that reminds me of an APA. It's actually rather unique for the style because of the different malt base, but the huge hop hit won't let anyone down. A fantastic beer.

2013, poured from a growler to a stemmed Hill Farmstead tulip glass within 20 minutes of filling the growler @ my local beverage shop.

A- Gorgeous, stunning amber color. Intense but remarkably clear, like a gemstone. Beautiful mild white foam head, perhaps a cm or 2 from a full pour. Some very luscious lacing. This is one of the best looking amber pale ales I have ever seen.

O- Citrus and fresh pine. Initially bring a big grapefruit character but settles quickly to a mild lemon aroma. Very pleasant, but all in all the weak point in this beer.

T- Fresh hops, pine, grapefruit, orange, lemon. A wonderful hope profile; reminds me of a VT style IPA with only a delicate malt backbone. Hides the 9% very well.

M- Nicely carbonated; resinous but light on the tongue. This beer drinks like a rich pale ale and not a 9% hop monster. Very enjoyable.

O- An outstanding fresh DIPA. It's a wonderful raw citrus experience. The minimalist malt profile allows the hops to really shine. This beer really reminds me of Hill Farmstead's Legitimacy IPA, which was one of my favorite HF beers.

Appearance: amber in color with a 1" head that slowly falls to a spotty surface covering.

Smell: caramel, lemon citrus, and a hop presence is easy to detect.

Taste: caramel, lemon zest, a bit of grapefruit, some pine tones, and a mellow grassiness creates a nice flavor profile. Bitterness is moderate and not overpowering. Alcohol is definitely warming here.

Mouthfeel: medium-heavy in body. Light crispness to start, smoother and somewhat dry at the finish. Long lasting afterataste.

Overall: I enjoyed this one quite a bit. A good DIPA that is slower sipping but nicely refreshing for the style.
