Straw with a lumpy off white head.
Bread dough with lots of flowers and lemon peel.
Light crackery malt with lemon zest hop finish.
Bit of graham cracker in the finish and lemon Starburst linger.
Light, a bit watery, crisp.

I don't know why this beer gets no love; this does exactly what it says on the tin. Brit malts definitely give it that English blonde backbone, and the citrus from Cascade and Amarillo sign through. My only issue, ironically, is the strength: plenty of English breweries can and do make this beer at 3.8%.

Easy hot weather quaffer.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a beautiful golden color. The head is about a finger high with an eggshell shade. Its texture is rough and its retention is poor. And almost no lacing is left on the glass, either. At least it has a great body...

S: Dangerously bland. Just touches of butter, caramel, and citrus are coming through. The nose actually gets weaker as it warms. Not off to a great start, are we?

T: Touches of citrus hops appear initially. Some malt enters the midtaste, and the finish brings back some citrusy notes, along with a twinge of fruit punch. Nothing fantastic, but better than the nose.

M: Light and dry - the maltiness doesn't get in the way of its crisp finish. The carbonation seems weak at first, but sneaks up on the palate.

O: If nothing else, this would be a decent lunch beer. It's inoffensive, drinkable, and would pair well with a good sandwich. And that's its biggest problem: it's insipid. There's no excitement to be found here (not to mention the nose is almost nonexistent); on the flip side, it lives up to its "Summer Ale" moniker by being an acceptable hot weather refresher. I'd never refuse one, but I won't buy it again.
