Pint glass on tap.

Poured a medium orange color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of biscuit, fruity, spices and light yeast. Tastes of breadiness, fruits, and light spices. I was also getting a light herbalness in the tastes.

This was served in a Chimay goblet, a hazy light amber beer with a thin white head and minimal retention.

Aroma is on the malty side for this style, butterscotch and baked pretzles with some restrained bitter fruit notes.

Flavor is also rather malt-forward. Butterscotch and doughy moist grain with faint fruit and an earthy, woody hop bitterness.

Body is medium and feels slick and wheaty. Big bubbles of carbonation escape too quickly, leaving the last half nearly flat. Not my favorite effort. The Abbey Single was so much better.

Sample at Firewaters in Atlantic City. This brew is a dark amber color with a wispy white head and minimal lacing. The aroma is mild toasted malt and hops. Medium-bodied with fruit and earthy malt flavoring. Some hops show up here and there but they never fully shine through. The finish is dry and mildly bitter. Not a bad beer, yet somehow a letdown given the quality of the majority of Brooklyn’s other beers.

Poured a deep amber hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and decent lacing.

The smell featured a solid toasted grain with a slight yeast ester.

The taste consisted of an upfront toasted grain with a spicy earthy hop. Slight estery yeast.

The mouthfeel was of average fullness and a bit chewy. A minor astrigent finish.

Overall an easy drinking Belgian ale.

A- Medium, slightly ruddy amber with a small, foamy, off-white head that quickly diminishes to a film.
S- Mild malt and citrus…. Nothing bad, just nothing much to it.
T- Lightly sour malts with some light berry and spice.
M- Medium-light body, lightly astringent
D- Eh, it’s not bad, it’s just a bit bland and uninteresting. There are much better Belgian P.A.s out there.

I had the opportunity to quaf several of these a few weeks back at the Brooklyn Brewery taproomon Friday night. Crimson in color, spicy and with a bite. Higher alcohol content but not overbearing. Smooth character and touch of sweetness from the floral theme. Very refreshing.

A very nice beer the poured with a light, short lived head. Nice auburn tone with excellent clarity. I enjoyed this slightly chilled, which proved to be refreshing, This beer had nice fruity undertones, which help make this an everyday drinking beer. Kudos to Mr. Oliver.

Purchased a growler at Half Time, Poughkeepsie, NY. Pours typical pretty clear auburn, with a soft, fluffy tan head, showing some retentive powers and leaves stringy lacing. Toasty nose, moderate malty sweetness, balanced, easy drinking creation from Brooklyn. Notes of honey, spice, fruit. Nothing amazing, but subtle and tasty. Everyday Belgian sessioner. Well worth a try and with food, this one would work nicely

This was listed as the Brooklyn Brewers choice in the Cloverleaf Tavern. The body was a fairly dark brown with a nice white head. Not too much retention unfortuantely but it at least had a good lacing that stayed with the beer. The smell was very malty. The taste was the same but the aftertaste was pretty good. It was fairly spicy but yet had a honey-like sweetness added to it to balance it out which was intriguing to my palate. The mouthfeel was full-bodied; nothing overbearing. Pretty drinkable beer; sweet-spicy aftertaste makes it an interesting brew. Easy going beer makes drinking it a breeze, especially considering it is a Belgian.

From notes: On tap at Monk's in Philadelphia. 5/17/07. Served in a small glass. Proper temperature. Clear, deep reddish-copper body. The short head of creamy off-white foam held OK but left minimal lacing (dirty glass?). The nose displayed a subtly toasted maltiness accented by a gently dark fruitiness and soft spiciness. Medium-light in body. Delicately carbonated. Very smooth in the mouth. The flavor was delicate - a simple, basic ale. Fairly clean as far as the yeast character was concerned. Just some mild frutiness and spiciness. The fruitiness and gently toasted maltiness balance well. Moderate underlying bitterness. Short, dry finish. Quite quaffable, but not at Monk's price of $5.50 for a small glass.

Latest Brewmaster's Reserve beer on tap in my basement. Pours a bright, clear as a lager, orangey-amber color. Compact, beige head. Initially good lacing fades as the glass empties, but leaves a tiny layer of foam. Biscuity, toasted malts upfront, with the smell and taste of the spicy and floral Hallertauer Perle and Czech Saaz hops on the backend. This is a very easy drinking medium-bodied beer at 5%. Very session-like. It doesn't blow me away, but then again, it's not meant to do so.

Had on tap at Crew in Poughkeepsie NY early May 2007. A nice 5% alcohol level.

Look: Clear copper orange in color with a thin 1" head that lasts a while. Light lacing develops.

Smell: biscuits and fruit sweetness are pleasant on the nose.

Taste: mild malt profile that has a hint of biscuit, apples, plums, and a touch of dry spiciness. Mild hop bitterness rounds it out. Simple yet enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: light crisp and dry at the start, smooth and dry at the finish. Very brief aftertaste. Medium bodied beer.

Drinkability: easy to quaff and makes the tastebuds happy. This nice beer went well with a crabcake appetizer I sampled.

Was able to try this on tap last evening. The brew was poured to a copper color with a nice sized off white head that had good retention and left a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is of malt which gave it a toasted scent and what I perceived as a sweetness. With this being a Belgium Pale I was expecting some typical spicy aromas but I could not pick anything like that up. The taste is very good, but does not really remind me of a pale. I am picking up more malt than anything else but that flavor gives it a very smooth feel. This brew is very easy drinking with its toasted flavors, and some fruit (candy apples?) like taste. Over all I really like this brew, seems like a good sessional brew with its easy drinking and feel.

It pours a slightly hazy coppery amber. Two fingers of dense, typically Belgian-esque white head deconstructs unevenly and gradually. Fronds of lacing wave along the inside of the glass.

The aroma carries thin but present notes of malt, with cherry and a mild toasty sweetness. An equally narrow spiciness presents, but it's general and pretty indistinct.

Upon sipping, the toasty malt is credibly sweet and brings cherries and toffee to the fore, but again as in the aroma, it's fleeting and thin. The esters are spicier here, with a touch of clove notable, and a green apple crispness is intimated. A lash of bread crust comes about near the end, and the end is citrus crisp and short-lived. It's not badness, but it falls short of genuine goodness.

North of light bodied by a touch, it flows with a swirl, leaving a creaminess that is countered ably by a dry spice glow.

I wanted to like it, and I tried to be objective, but in the end it was a bit too close to average to stand up to all the other offerings available in the style. It's crafted, you can taste that much, but it just doesn't seem able to finish what it starts, coming off as vague and with little real bandwidth. The ABV is nothing beefy from what I could tell, but drinking it because you bought it is likely this one's niche. Had better, had worse, won't likely have it again unless it's free and the best available. Enough said?

Appearance: Pours a clear, copper color with a dense off white head that thins to a film, before disappearing.

Smell: Very fruity. There are notes of bananas and berries with toasty malts, light hops and a hint of spiciness.

Taste: Toasty malts upfront move into a sweet fruity center with notes of bananas and apples. The finish has a light residual sweetness with a mild bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied, moderate carbonation.

Drinkability: Mild but flavorful. Definitely something I could have a few of.

Overall: I thought this was a spot on attempt at a Belgian Pale Ale. I'd definitely have it again.

I first enjoyed this beer at the grand opening of the new Blind Tiger a month back in NYC. What a lucky find. I more recently had a few pints at Tria in Philadelphia. The beer poured a clear amber color with a slight off white head and nice lacing on the sides. The nose was a familiar Belgian-ish malty touch with some fruit notes on the back end. The taste gives you a bit of a bready like character, some fruit notes and also a hop bitterness on the end that rounds this one out well but makes for a somewhat light and easy drinking body.

I had this on tap at Mahar's.

A: It has a good amber color with a bit of red in there. There was a great thick white head that fell eventually leaving a rim on the edge of the glass.

S: The aroma was pretty light and had a spicy note to it with a malty base.

T: The flavor was a bit light for my preference, even for a belgian pale ale. There was a good malt flavor and a bit of spice that matched the aroma, but still not strong enough for me. It seems like more of a mild beer to me.

M: The body was pretty light on this, although not totally out of style.

D: I give this average drinkability because it just doesn't have enough to pull me in. It was pretty light and my girlfriend even commented that it was just like Bud.

A- a ruddy reddish hue with a decent head. pleanty of lace. a nice looking brew.

S-Very malty with a hint of sourishness reminsent of apples

T-Malt upfront with a hit of sour cherries, very differnt from the smell. Then there is a hop backbone which is just there in the backgrouns as a wieght to balance the malt. This is interesting. I will have anothe rto see what else i can get out of this. There is definitely a lot going on here and i might have to session this to get the full range of flavours.

M-Medium bodied but with a low level of carbonation. I would like a little more for carbonation to balance the sweetness.

D-This is definitely sessionable. A great beer and one that needs to be explored.
