Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Brooklyn version. This brew is the result of the long friendship of Brooklyn brewmaster Garrett Oliver and Schneider brewmaster Hans-Peter Drexler. Garrett had always admired the delicate balance of flavors in Schneider Weisse, while Hans-Peter had long enjoyed the effusive hop character of Brooklyn East India Pale Ale and BLAST! Garrett's concept for the collaboration was that each brewmaster would brew essentially the same pale, hoppy weissbock in the other's brewery, but with different hopping to reflect the local hop flavor.

Dry-hopped w/ American Amarillo and Palisade.

Three fingers of off white rocky foam easily reaches the top of my glass and leaves spotted lace as it slowly fades. Body is a yeasty light glowing orange tone. Nose is also very yeasty with tones of grassy almost pickled hops with some background citrus and mellon. Uniquely creamy on first sip. Flavors include prickly, rustic hops, with a mixture of mellon and citrus fruit profile. All of this is smoothly carried by soft and consistent yeastiness. Hops turn fruity and nicely crisp on the mouthfeel. This is an excellently drinkable brew that stays refreshing and dynamic.

Review from notes. Bottle probably aged for a few months.

Poured a deep tangerine/sienna hue (or perhaps a cloudy amber??) with a huge fluffy off white head. Big citrus notes with big bananas and hint of clove. Earthy overtones as well and a light honey tinge too. Very tasty, the sweet banana comes up first, then spice, then earthy and citrusy finish. Very nice. I like this.

I have been hunting down this beer for a while; probably there aren’t many bottles still available.
It produced a big stomp after releasing the cork. Amber golden color with a thick off-white head with apparent carbonation, great retention and leaving some laces.
Wonderful intriguing aroma, subdue notes of banana with honey, cloves, overripe oranges, peaches soaked in rum and mango chutney.
Flavor of wood, Cointreau liquor, subdue banana, caramel malt, pine, wheat, honey, spices and Weiss yeast. Interesting that I also got some floral and herbal hops. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Medium to full body with good carbonation. Alcohol of 8.5% abv is harmonic with the overall beer.
Excellent Weizenbock, bold flavor with great complexity. It would be interesting to compare it to the German version.

Served in a Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

A collaboration between two solid brewers that somewhat alters/updates a classic style? I'm in. This stuff pours a cloudy sunrise amber-brass topped by over a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises grass, dry wheat, light clove (I think), and a couple twists of orange. The taste brings in more of the same, with a slightly fresher wheat component and a bit more clove. The body is a lithe medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, I wasn't the biggest fan of this stuff. It's not really bad, per se, just not my cup o' tea, what with the grassy hops not really fully melding with the mild citrus and wheat. I dunno, something like that...
