Weizenbock |  8.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Brooklyn version. This brew is the result of the long friendship of Brooklyn brewmaster Garrett Oliver and Schneider brewmaster Hans-Peter Drexler. Garrett had always admired the delicate balance of flavors in Schneider Weisse, while Hans-Peter had long enjoyed the effusive hop character of Brooklyn East India Pale Ale and BLAST! Garrett's concept for the collaboration was that each brewmaster would brew essentially the same pale, hoppy weissbock in the other's brewery, but with different hopping to reflect the local hop flavor.

Dry-hopped w/ American Amarillo and Palisade.

First off, this may be the most gorgeous bottle I've ever seen. I know you're not supposed to judge a beer by it's label, but it's alright in this case, as the brew was also quite delightful.

A- It pours a beautiful cloudy orange-yellow, with a fairly solid head that does not dissolve very quickly.

S- The primary aroma that hits the nostrils is that of the banana. But there also seems to be a hint of spice, perhaps ginger?

T- Upon drinking your taste buds are assaulted with a blast of hoppy goodness, that is not too overpowering. The banana taste is slowly coaxed out as you get further into it, and leaves a nice little nanner aftertaste.

M- The aftertaste does not linger too long and it is not very dry. It's cool and refreshing.

D- I could see drinking a few in a row, but wouldn't be able to settle in a drink it for the long haul.

I have been hunting down this beer for a while; probably there aren’t many bottles still available.
It produced a big stomp after releasing the cork. Amber golden color with a thick off-white head with apparent carbonation, great retention and leaving some laces.
Wonderful intriguing aroma, subdue notes of banana with honey, cloves, overripe oranges, peaches soaked in rum and mango chutney.
Flavor of wood, Cointreau liquor, subdue banana, caramel malt, pine, wheat, honey, spices and Weiss yeast. Interesting that I also got some floral and herbal hops. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Medium to full body with good carbonation. Alcohol of 8.5% abv is harmonic with the overall beer.
Excellent Weizenbock, bold flavor with great complexity. It would be interesting to compare it to the German version.

Served in a Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

A collaboration between two solid brewers that somewhat alters/updates a classic style? I'm in. This stuff pours a cloudy sunrise amber-brass topped by over a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises grass, dry wheat, light clove (I think), and a couple twists of orange. The taste brings in more of the same, with a slightly fresher wheat component and a bit more clove. The body is a lithe medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, I wasn't the biggest fan of this stuff. It's not really bad, per se, just not my cup o' tea, what with the grassy hops not really fully melding with the mild citrus and wheat. I dunno, something like that...
