Batch 3518 (?)
750ml bottle, caged and corked, 9% ABV
The beer appeared a cola color with a big, fairly thick off-white head that was well retained and eventually faded into a small cap that lasted throughout the beer.
Aroma was good, sweet from the Belgian sugar and dark fruit, a hint of citrus was noted, possibly orange, and spices. Also, a touch of alcohol was noticeable as the beer warmed.
The taste was average. Bready and a light malt flavor are dominate, dark fruit and spices. For me it did not seem that the beer was all that well balanced and the taste seemed kind of light. Not at all what I expected from this great brewery.
The beer had a good feel to it, medium body, and good active carbonation.
Drinkability is good. The beer was smooth and overall the beer was pretty easy to drink with a nice dry finish, but since the taste was a little light, it made it a little less enjoyable. Also, I think that I discovered that this is certainly not one of my favorite styles, as compared to the Local 1.

A - Murky brown amber color. Will pour a massive head if you're not careful. Great lacing.
S- Grape, yeast, malt (like the powder), funk, and some bready notes. I keep thinking I smell raw honey. Changes pretty steadily as it warms.
T- Grape and what tastes like earthy hops up front. Notes of chocolate, toast, raisin, alcohol, pepper, and light orange comes next. Slightly bitter, bready finish. Each sip is a little different. Profile loses sweetness and becomes more bitter as it warms. Honey-like flavors come out as it warms as well. No one flavor dominates another.
M- Medium thick body with light, prickly carbonation. Not overly drying.
O- I really enjoyed this beer. I've found this style to be really hit or miss for me, and this one definitely hit. I'm walking away with the impression that someone put a lot of thought and work into the crafting this beer. Wonderful balance between a multitude of flavors. Cheers, sir, cheers.
