I had to decide between this and the Delirium Tremens (cash flow issue), but went with this since it's new.

Poured this into my Chimay chalice just below room temp. The cork came out real easy. Pours a creamy dark brown color with big thick head, despite a real gentle pour. I had to let it sit for a few minutes before the head faded, and it left all sorts of sticky lacing. Smells malty sweet and I get a hint of smokiness. There is some spice in the smell as well, with a bit of alcohol mixed in. A balanced aroma...no single scent jumps out. The taste follows the nose. Sweet, malty, spicy. A touch of honey in there as well. A surprisingly dry mouthfeel. Heavy, but dry. Leaves a bit of stick behind. Minimal carbonation. A very nice, drinkable beer.

Appearance- Blackish brew, slightly watery. Tan head.

Smell- Prunes, dates, molasses, licorice, booze.

Taste- Dark malts, spice, brown sugar, finishes slightly dry.

Mouthfeel- Smooth yet well carbonated. Creamy for a Belgian strong dark ale.

Overall- Has a aftertaste that reminds me of Guinness (not good... slightly metallic and nasty chocolate malts that have no business being in this kind of beer, also a hint of something gross).

Really disappointing. I was expecting a top notch Belgian strong dark and instead was treated to something barely mediocre. Trois Pistoles is much cheaper and trumps this beer HANDS DOWN 10/10 times.

A - Murky brown amber color. Will pour a massive head if you're not careful. Great lacing.

S- Grape, yeast, malt (like the powder), funk, and some bready notes. I keep thinking I smell raw honey. Changes pretty steadily as it warms.

T- Grape and what tastes like earthy hops up front. Notes of chocolate, toast, raisin, alcohol, pepper, and light orange comes next. Slightly bitter, bready finish. Each sip is a little different. Profile loses sweetness and becomes more bitter as it warms. Honey-like flavors come out as it warms as well. No one flavor dominates another.

M- Medium thick body with light, prickly carbonation. Not overly drying.

O- I really enjoyed this beer. I've found this style to be really hit or miss for me, and this one definitely hit. I'm walking away with the impression that someone put a lot of thought and work into the crafting this beer. Wonderful balance between a multitude of flavors. Cheers, sir, cheers.
