Here in Brooklyn we’ve combined European malt and hops, Belgian dark sugar, and raw wildflower honey from a New York family farm to create Brooklyn Local 2. Our special Belgian yeast adds hints of spice to the dark fruit, caramel, and chocolate flavors. After 100% bottle re-fermentation, the beer reveals a marvelous dry complexity, enjoyable by itself or at the dinner table.

750 mL bottle at refrigerator temperature poured into a snifter.
A - Dark woody brown body, with a lighter sepia color on the edges along the light. The head is a beige color, and comprised of many compact little bubbles.
S - A sweet, molasses malt character is matched by citrus, peach, dark floral honey. The candy yeast character reminds me of fresh-baked sweet muffins.
T - The dark malt character meets me up front, with a touch of bitter orange and honey on the back end. The finish has a touch of chocolate, but it does get pretty lost amidst the sweet malt, fruit, spice, and floral notes.
M - Lacks a bit of "pop," and the finish isn't striking enough to justify the lack of zippiness on the palate. It ends up feeling pretty heavy.
D - This brew begs for complementary food - though I'm not necessarily surprised, considering Garrett Oliver's longstanding reputation for pairing beer with food. A spicy blue cheese like Bayley Hazen Blue, a simple, delicious duck confit, or a rustic duck pate. Yes, I think the flavors pair well with duck, ok? Definitely a well-crafted brew, though, personally, I like Local 1 better.

750 ml "champagne"-corked bottle, shared at local tasting, thanks to Sigrid S. ABV is 9%. Brown colour, large off-white head. Sweetish aroma, some stale notes, not impressive. Medium sweet flavour, fruity, some stale notes again, a bit disappointing.

I am moving this weekend and have been working down my cellar a bit to expedite the move. I have been hanging on to this one for about a year or so I think. Nose is plums and figs and dark chocolate with a yeasty overlay.
The flavor is understated and tasty, with an earthy, bready, woody note that also features grapeskin, chocolate, dried fruit and fine cordials. The texture starts with light caronation but finishes with a velvety, rich coating that letsyou realy enjoy the complexity. I don't know if the year of aging heped but this is very easy to drink, has a low alcohol profile for the abv, and presents as a nice alternative to some of the more overbearing Belgian style bombers you see often from big American brewers.
