Perfect smelling beer. Very dry crisp flavor. Not much fruit. Biscuit and grassy flavor. Not very bitter, not big enough flavor. Thick white foamy head. Solid lacing. Pretty good beer. This is the type of beer that you want to drink right after a round of golf or mowing your lawn. Great summer thirst-quencher

Look at that big fat three-finger snowball white head, like a real Champagne of beers. Fresh zesty seasoned smell with a light sweet malty spinal column rising from this pretty amber brew. The flavor seems to match the scent as the hop's indescribably unique citron demonstration steals the show. More than subtle, less than front forward, Brooklyn Brewery does it again, for me at least. The only visual obstructing the view through this clear golden cloudless thirst-quenching indulgence are the crystal carbonation bubbles drifting up to support the stable fetching white head. This may be my new favorite beer! I can drink this all day. I better put some of this in the vault before it's all gone. I feel like if I tried to make something that nearly resembles this beautiful brew that I would certainly fail. Brooklyn Brewery, I love this stuff.

A - nice golden straw with a nice finger of head. Good carbonation coming. Very clear no haze. Good lacing coming down.

S - nice hop aroma off the bat, but has a nice spice in there too. Sweet malts are there but not over the top.

T - this is great. Hops on the start with this almost Christmas-y spice note to it. Leaves a great bitter aftertaste that isn't too much (if there is such a thing). Has a little citrus in there as well which is refreshing.

M - nice transition over the palate. Very smooth. Carbonation is great.

O - overall great beer. At the brewery here in Brooklyn and having It this fresh is the best!

Beer is clear golden in colour, with a massively large white head. Excellent retention, lots of lacing.

The Sorachi Ace (at least, what I assume that hop is doing) really sticks out. A very strong lemongrass scent, with lemon. Yeast below that.

Taste is good, but not up to the scent. The lemongrass is still very heavy, and is accompanied by a very creamy flavour. Quite malty. The yeast is there but less present, or at least not resulting in the flavours I associate with Belgian yeasts. Lemon is certainly strong, but not like the lemongrass. It is nice but there is something about it that doesn't work for me. Hard to put my finger on it.

Medium bodied, super creamy. Moderate carbonation level.

Overall, quite good, but as noted above, there is something that doesn't sit right for me. Wish I could identify it, but there is something about the hop flavours, particularly the lemongrass, that doesn't quite do it for me- despite loving lemongrass.

This one pours a hazy deep gold with two fingers of tight, white-frothy head that settles gradually. The aroma is bright and refreshing with notes of lemon zest and a crisp, crackery malt backbone. Notes of herbs and earth lie faint in the background. The flavor is dry and clean, with a crisp, light-bodied mouthfeel. Some appropriate astringency hits on the back of the palate with each swallow. Sorachi Ace is a uniquely refreshing example of a style I'm still learning to appreciate.

A - pours a nice golden color with a good amount of head on it, about a fingers and a half worth. nice amount of carbonation.

S - this has a nice, crisp, clean floral smell to it. Not a big hoppy smell but a very even pleasant scent to it.

T - nice bitter, floral taste to it. The hops aren't overdone with this but the presence resembles that of an IPA rather than a saison. Not a whole lot of flavor to it but easy to drink and pretty smooth and light. Picked up a small taste of orange peel near the back of the tongue. Really enjoyable tasting.

M - dry finish with a lingering bitterness to it. no flavor lingers around but the aftertaste is enjoyable.

O - not a bad beer by any means but feel its kind of average in the realm of saisons. I've had better but I've had worse. I would still drink this again on hot summer days. Would definitely purchase again. Wish there was a little more flavor to this.

Poured from a 750 ml brown bottle into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass. No easy to find freshness date. Purchased at Beer Run (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Lemon yellow, brilliant clarity, with towering 3-finger rocky white head with excellent retention and crusty lacing.

S: Very lemongrass scented, some crackery, grainy pilsner maltiness. Not a lot of other hops aromas beside lemon and herbal but it's very delicious smelling stuff.

T: THe flavor is a little one-dimensional, but solidly crafted with a nice intro of crackery pilsner maltiness giving way to a smooth herbal, citrus, lemon hops flavor. This flavor doesn't deviate throughout the drink -- no more flavor but no less.

M: Very light on the palate with heavy carbonation that makes this drink like champagne but taste a helluva lot better.

O: A very good beer for what it is but not varied enough in the flavor department with no real yeast presence despite the style. Would be a great accompaniment for fish or seafood dished for sure.

Growler on tap at Joe Canal. Pours a golden yellow with a large long lasting fluffy white head. Very good lacing and head retention. Aroma is of ripe fruit, pears, sweet yeast and spice fruit essence. Taste same as aroma with some mild spice hops bitterness. A medium body, crisp and refreshing on the palate, mild carbonation. The Finish is a combination of sweet spice ripe fruit, pears, yeast and biscuit malt followed by mild spice bitterness for balance. A very good, tasty, refreshing and flavorful brew. Very nice

Bottle number 2721 whatever that means. I was mostly looking at the bottle and it seemed like it had little sediment so it has to be less than a year old (I think) Regardless I pulled the trigger on this 10 dollar IPA since its been a long time tick of mine.

A - Boom! A full two inches of head! The beer itself is a very hazy bright yellow with tons of carbonation bubbles. Lacing is decent.
S - Smells like a Saison with Fruity yeasts, some lemon, a touch of grass, and the cirtus hops from the dry hopping. Smells great.
T - Slightly bitter, then fruity, then funky this beer is complex. I like how it has the hops but sticks to the style even providing some sour lemon and dry yeasts in the finish.
M - Could be the style but I don't really enjoy this level of carbonation. Too bubbly for an IPA but it not terrible. Light to medium bodied as a whole.

Overall quite a great mesh of styles you got your world class Saison with the bitterness of Sorachi Ace hops. Delivered what was promised.

Growler-pours hazy piss yellow color with a nice foamy 2 finger bright white head that was packed with bubbles and faded slowly and left great spotty lacing coating the sides and rings as it went down.

Smells of strong lemon followed by flowers and citrus like orange peel, grapefruit and citrus hops; notes of grains, yeast, wheat, coriander and other spices add some malty balance to the zesty lemon aroma that dominates. Funky and strange smelling, but interesting none the less.

Taste is zesty up front, like lemon juice and lemon peel shavings floating in the glass, followed by funky yeast, lightly roasted grains, grapefruit, coriander, herbs, spices like pepper and either cumin or cinnamon, grass, earthy notes, piney hops and dry floral hops or a mild potpourri essence. Unique in that the lemon is so strong but not a bitter overpowering distraction, this brew is almost in a class of its own: it's not quite a saison and it’s not and IPA or hefeweizen either. Each sip is a little different which makes this intriguing.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp, almost watery, with a light to medium body, light fizzy carbonation and a semi-dry finish that starts out malty, then shifts to funky and then morphs to lemon zest which fades slowly with herbal notes. Quite the drinking experience which completely hides the ABV and makes this dangerously easy to drink.

I've had this a number of times both on tap and from a bomber and this growler again proved that this is a winner. A great creation and experiment that showcases the art of craft brewing. A high recommendation, go drink this if you want a deviation from the norm.

750 ml bottle poured into tulip

A: 3.75 Lightly golden, very clear in color. Pours with 3 fingers of head that reduces within 1 minute.
S: 3.5 Most of what makes it through in the smell for me is pine, and a little bit of citrus.
T: 4.25 First is the pine, followed by a mellow citrus. A dry finish leaves a lingering sweetness.
M: 4.0 Very smooth and silky. Carb level is high, which is expected for being "100% bottle refermented ale".
O: 4.0 This beer doesn't have a lot of depth to it, but even being near 1 dimensional it is still very enjoyable. The forefront aroma and flavor of the pine characteristics linger for quite some time after finishing. I would definitely have this again.

Bottled 1163 so bottled April 26, 2013

A: Pours a lightly hazy yellow color with 2+ fingers of head that slowly bubbles down to a cap

S: Light Belgian yeast, lighter fruits, a definite lemon note, and some wheat malts

T: Starts off with a very light Belgian yeast and spicy note and then goes into some fruitiness and lemongrass notes. Finishes with some more light lemon notes and light malts

M: Medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation

O: The champagne yeast definitely makes this saison unique, as well as the fact that it's a single-hop beer. It's very easy to drink given the 7.6%. Great summer brew, but it would work any time really. Good value and worth picking up

Had it fresh at the Brewery, priceless.
Bright amber yellow color with a thick head with medium retention.
Delicious citrus lemon sorachi type of aroma (off course!).
Superb flavor of "je ne sais quoi" in case you had never tasted Sorachi hops before. Tons of pineapples, lemon, herbs and green apples. Notes of Belgian yeast, white pepper and resins.
Dry, bitter and lemon acid aftertaste.
A bit astringent with a mild sourness.
Light body with decent carbonation, sparkling type. 7.6% ABV, no f...way, they are liars or magicians.
Excellent beer, very flavorful, original, pleasant to drink with drinkability at its best.

Part of b-day bash of saisons.
This is really quite good and unique.
Fresh aroma with sweet and tart citrus esp. lemon.
Pale yellow. Slightly cloudy. Big full white head with great stamina.
Really complex drink. Fruit, vanilla (with an oak quality), touch of sweetness up front, nice herbal flavors (chamomile?). Moderately dry and it grows as it lingers.
Smooth and takes on a creamy quality in time. Higher carbonation levels. Slight heat in the gut.
Overall really enjoyable. Well done and consistent with my experiences with this brewery.

Opened with a loud pop from a magnum. Poured into a tulip. Huge white head over golden brew with bubbles coming nonstop from the bottom of the glass. It looks like Duvel, which is the highest compliment I can give it. The only difference is the head is not meringue like. Just a regular soft foam head. Great looking beer nonetheless. Good retention and nice soft lacing

The smell is very clean and lemony. Great smell for a summer beer. Slightly hoppy but clean.

Taste is great. Clean dry slightly lemony. It tastes more like a Belgian golden ale than a saison, but really good. The hops are there but not over powering. Super clean finish. Great taste on a hot summer afternoon. The bottle describes this beer as crackling. Agreed.

Mouthfeel is very smooth. Even with the great carbonation, very smooth.

Overall, this beer is a keeper. Really nice clean summer Belgian. I will buy again. Love the slightly hoppy clean taste.

Poured into a tulip glass.

The beer pours a hazy pale straw yellow with a big fluffy creamy white head that clings to the side of the glass and slowly fades to a thin lacing. The aroma is a combination of lemon and grass (hence lemongrass) and spicy black pepper notes. There is even a hint of orange. The taste is very yeasty and spicy with lemon notes. The mouthfeel is light-medum with a dry finish and highly effervescent. Overall I'm glad I finally tried it and would definitely drink more. Sorachi Ace hops have a very unique aroma.

A: Light amber or dark straw colored. It pours to a thick cloudy head that settles down to a thin white collar leaving behind a bit of lacing. It is a bit cloudy, but this is typical for the style, and expected as it is bottle conditioned.

S: There is lots of strong lemon in the nose (almost zesty). It is also peppery and yeasty, almost sweet smelling. That Belgian yeast is very apparent.

T: Delicious! There is lots of lemon and pepper up front balanced out with a pleasant malt sweetness. There is that great Belgian flavor profile as well of yeast and biscuit and tastes almost wheaty.

M: The beer is light, very clean and very carbonated. It drinks very easy for a 7.6% ABV.

O: Perfectly Balanced! Sorachi Ace starts with a great hop presence of lemon and pepper that carries into the taste. It has a nice malt character (sweet and buscuity) and dries out for a clean finish.

The "lemon" flavor is overstated in this so-delicious Sorachi ale. To be true, lemon is certainly there, but the ratio of lime aroma/flavor to it is about 2:1 (i mixed the fresh juices of each just to see), surely with some banana and floral phenols from the yeast, tropical-ish cannabis, and a dab of sugar-cookie malt in the mix. This goes for smell and taste.

Hazy, lite-brite sunbeam yellow in color, with a healthy rise in cottony foam on the pour. Cotton-candy like bands of lace to and fro. Mellow citrus-peel flavor and bitterness matched with smooth, spicy alcohol warmth up front on the palate, and a fine foundation of doughy, cereal-like pale malt to balance. Light and fluffy texture, disappearing soft-dry, leaving only spicy, cozy alcohol warmth and a semi-sweet/bright-fruity blend of the eponymous hops and esters.

They appear to have kept the recipe simple here and those that follow that blueprint are often the best beers, no? This was my introduction to Sorachi Ace hops a few years back and I savor that flavor in any beer I've had containing them since. So distinctive. WOuld match so well with a light, fruity dessert or peppery salad. Really stellar job on this one!

The color is a bright yellow lemon that is quite hazy. A beautiful looking beer. This beer pours out with a huge amount of white bubbly head. Opening the bottle was like a champagne with the carbonation.

The aroma has lemon, orange, and some biscuit malt. There's a sweet banana candy. Lots of yeast and breadiness, but then the lemon pops in the back.

The flavor follows the aroma. Orange, floral, lemon, banana candy. There's a big spiciness of clove and pepper. There's almost an earthy herbal flavor too. There's a chewy wheat breadiness on the malt, yet still very crisp and light drinking.

Good bitter hop finish. This has more a bit complexity to me than DuPont. This is a very easy drinking, but also complex saison.

Brooklyn is a new comer to TN. Had this previously on tap at Young Ave. Deli. Reviewing 25 oz. bottle purchased at Midtown Spirits in Nashville.

Poured into my tulip glass with a 2 finger head that dissipates fairly quickly, no significant lacing. This Ace has a hazy golden color with a slight pink hue. Smells like Belgian yeast and lemon. Earthy, grassy taste; I can taste the yeast it has a sour tang to it, peach aftertaste. Strong carbonation and medium mouthfeel. Mellows down as it warms and settles. Good brew, I think I preferred the Ace on-tap. From the bottle B+. On-tap A-

750ml Bottle from the Wegmans Dewitt NY for 10$

Appearance - Clear gold colour with a large size fizzy/frothy white coloured head. There is a high amount of carbonation showing and there is some good lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes.

Smell - Breads/grains, clove/yeast, lemons, ginger, hops

Taste & Mouth - There is a high amount of carbonation and I can taste bread/grains mixed with some lemons, and ginger. There is also some yeast and honey. It ends with a lemony bready aftertaste.

Overall - Really good stuff. Had this with a nice BBQ in the sun and it was perfect. I will buy more of this beer, even with the slightly higher price tag.

Finally got around to having this, splitting it with a friend to celebrate the paying off of the first of my two student loans from Columbia. I was intrigued by the style of this beer and the Sorachi Ace hop but I wouldn't know it was Japanese unless I read what was on the bottle. This was about as a good as Saison/Farmhouse beer that I've ever had and as smooth and grassy as it was, it was also refreshing in so many ways.

The head on this beer had to be one of the largest I've ever seen, as I had pout it and let it settle several times before I had enough at a time to sample. The hue was golden and cloudy as well with the head that remained clinging to the sides of my glass as I worked my way down it. Thankfully, the carbonation that was present there was repeated in the taste, to go along with a ton of grass, straw, champagne, and a good amount of lemon zest. This had a dry mouthfeel to it with only the sourness becoming apparent in the aftertaste.

Likewise for the alcohol - this was fairly strong but in no way did the booze make itself felt until afterwards. While the earthiness of a beer typical of this style is present, the champagne yeast and mountain of bubbles gives this a very lively feel that's present from start to finish. I've never had a bad bomber from Brooklyn and this was no exception. This was wonderful and a great beer to welcome in the warmer days with!
