Appearance: Straw-yellow-golden pour with a great big head that leaves some lacing

Smell: Lemongrass, citrus hops and some faint belgian yeast

Taste: Very crisp, perhaps a bit too dry. Again lots of lemongrass with some nice floral hops. Initially I got some herbs I wasn't expecting, sage I think. Reminds me of a pilsner.

Mouthfeel: Perhaps too dry and slightly over carbonated/spritzy, otherwise nice mouthfeel

Drinkability: Good one for a spring day; was fun to try but won't seek it again

A - Pours a hazy, golden straw color with a huge 3 inch head that dissipates somewhat quickly down to about 1/2 inch.

S - wow, smelled amazing from the second I popped the bottle. The lemon zest combined with the floral aroma of the Sorachi Ace hops is heavenly.

T - Follows the nose. Lemon zest, some orange citrus, floral from the hops, finishes a little peppery. Delicious and refreshing.

M - light and airy with lots of carbonation. Again, very refreshing, great for a hot summer day.

O - While a bit pricey this was well worth it. An excellent take on the style that I enjoyed immensely.

Poured into a large snifter glass. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.

Appearance: As poured the beer is a hazed golden apricot or salmon color with a fluffy 1” off-white head that recedes very slowly. As the head begins to recede it leaves lots of irregular patches, partial rings and spider-web like lines of lacing Sipping leaves some large patches of foam that cling to the sides of the glass. There is a thin layer of foam on the surface of the liquid to the very end of the beer and even then sipping leaves scattered speckles of lacing clinging to the sides of the glass.

Smell: The aroma is very much the spicy lemongrass and lemon zest expected from the brewery’s description. While the aroma is definitely filled with the hops, they are backed up with some of the Belgian yeast character as well. I also think there is a bit of mustiness mixed in here as well.

Taste: The flavor is filled with rich light malt (probably Pils malt) and yeast flavors but without a lot of sweetness. There is some spiciness and bitterness from the hops that remains in the background without becoming overly dominating. The lemon zest is clearly present here as the focus of the show, but it also plays nicely with a hint of sweetness from the malt and with some of the flavors from the yeast.

Mouthfeel: The mouth feel is on the light side of medium bodied and is clean and crisp but with gentle and ample carbonation. The finish is moderately long and begins with a touch of bitterness from the hops that gets briefly replaced by a bit of sweetness from the malt. However, that hint of sweetness quickly disappears in the long and quite dry finish that fades softly away to leave a trace of bitter dryness so that the back of the mouth is ready and waiting for the next sip.

Drinkability and Overall Impression: Besides being an interesting look at a new hop this beer is a very drinkable one that leaves me wanting more. While I’ll not be buying this one a lot, I do plan on adding a few to my shopping list periodically as I think it is quite nice but also should pair well with a nice serving of grilled salmon. My overall impression is that this is a well made beer that I’m pleased to have had and even more pleased that the Brewery has decided to make it a regular offering so I can have it again.

Got a gift of great beer from great people today – Christmas came early this year. Cheers!

Brewed 07/12/2012, over a year before the date of this tasting. Not ideal, but it’ll do.

A: Pours a rich gold with light haze. Extraordinarily fizzy: turbulent bubbles rise through the body to support a tall, frothy, white head. After a minute, what’s left is a wonderfully smooth inch of retention and webs of chunky lacing. Gorgeous.

S: Hop aromas are forward and absolutely succulent, with an unmistakable character of lemon and tangerine. Natural, juicy, absolutely mouthwatering citrus scents. Towards the end, there’s a couple more subtle scents of spice – white pepper and coriander – and bready Belgian yeast scents.

T: You can taste the age, and that’s both good and bad: it has a slight flavor of stale, grainy pilsen malt, but the soft breadiness of the champagne yeast it’s been sitting on is quite apparent. I love the way Brooklyn utilizes that yeast flavor (a great component in the flavor of Black Ops), and it definitely works here. The most forward tastes include white bread and butter, clove, and sugar cookie, though these are all under the blanket of a zesty lemongrass hop character. Finishes with dry spice: mild puckering of citrus and grain husk.

M: Soft carbonation and a light, creamy, champagne body: very, very drinkable. Best at just a little colder than cellar temp, but even as it warms it never gets offensive in any way.

O: I’m surprised such a hop-centric beer was still so great after almost a year and a half, but if anyone can make that happen, it’s Brooklyn. Definitely a must-try; and hey, if you’re looking for a gift beer, this one was greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas!

750mL brown glass cork and cage finished bottle. No date.

Appearance: A hazy yellow with lots of sudsy fluffy bone-white head that stands up tall like meringue.

Nose: Lemon zest and violets. Smells like a field of wild flowers with some citrus raining down over it.

Palate: Crisp with some tart acidity. The hops are somewhat out of balance with the body. There's lots of bitter lemon zest and chive flavors. Herbal and floral too. Body is sharp and snappy to start but then gets fat and flabby like lemon balm.

Notes: Starting to think that I don't care much for this hop. A decent brew, but out of balance.

[Suggested Glassware: Tulip Glass]

The pour was a cloudy golden yellow with a large (2-3 finger) white fluffy head that reduced down to a medium cap and had excellent sheets of lacing.

The aroma was of a light grain malt, floral and grassy hops and a funky Belgian yeast with notes of citrus (lemon), green apple, and a bit of spice.

The taste was lightly sweet and rather creamy with a hint of citrus, and a mild fruity ester from the onset, progressing into a mild bitter yeasty taste with a light spicy finish. The flavor stuck around for a little while with the spicy fruity taste left lying on the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was light in body with a creamy and slightly dry texture and a mild carbonation.

Overall a nice crisp tasting brew with all components working harmoniously together, which did a great job of concealing the high somewhat ABV making this one very enjoyable drinking experience...

Appearance: Pours a nice pale and clear golden color. The head is white and rises quite readily. A little bit of lacing around the glass but not much.

Smell: A beautiful lemongrass smell with hints of yeast. The hops certainly dominate the palate quite a bit. I also get a slight citrusy taste in addition to the lemon.

Taste: A strong lemon taste with yeasty undertones.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation with a smooth feel.

Overall: I really enjoyed this beer and I liked the Sorachi Ace hops that were used. I really enjoyed drinking a Farmhouse ale in winter.

Thanks to Andrewinski1 for sharing this. Poured it into a tulip. Lots of fluffy white head that was monstrous! About three fingers! Gives a hazy straw color. The smell is kind of hot, kind of peppery with hints of orange zest. Lots of orange taste and grassy hops in the background. Kind of a spicy aftertaste. Light in the mouth and the carbonation is pretty spot on. Crisp and refreshing on the warm summer evening. Light and easy going down. Great summer beer.

Aroma: Sweeter, Pils malt-type aroma up front. Lots of light crackery character. Earthy, herbal, and spicy hop notes. No fermentation character.

Appearance: Nearly clear golden colored pour with a long-lasting sudsy white head.

Flavor: Lots of similar herbal, earthy, spicy hop notes in the front. Some cracker-like malt sweetness that is quickly beaten down by the hop notes. Balance is firmly bitter. Finish is bone dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light with high, prickly carbonation. No alcohol heat or creaminess noted.

Overall impression: A bigger, strongly hopped Saison. Nice summer drinking.

Picked up an 750 ML bottle (corked and caged) in a trade with Dawson's Liquor in Severna Park, MD and poured it into a Mort Subite Lambic branded tulip glass - thanks fellas!

A: After a big pop of the cork this one pours a lightly hazy straw-like hue with a thin white head that dissipates quickly with small amounts of lacing.

S: Cracker and bready yeast up front, tropical fruit, wood and booze with a faint hint of hop at the back end.

T: Similar to the nose but with a good dose of hop and funky yeast, finishing with lemon zest and pepper.

M: Medium bodied, good amount of carbonation for the style with a crisp dry finish.

Overall tasty and fairly unique for the style. No problem polishing this one off!

Not sure of the age on this bottle but it's def got some age on it, got it as a gift from the father of one of the assistant brewers. Hazy and faded orange marmalade color. Massive bright white head which dies kind of quickly. Sweet citric lemon grass nose. Otherwise pretty subtle nose.

Pretty nice tasting beer. Sweet belgian candy up front. Slight medicinal flavors, all well blended. Touches of banana and clove with lemon grass and citrus as the dominant flavors. Semi-spicy yeast bite on the finish. Touches of meaty fruit such as apples and pears. Delicious yet palate cleansing. Lots of brisk carbonation.

Just needs a bit more tartness.

I usually am not the biggest fan of brooklyn but this is pretty damn good.

An even older bottle than the last one . I tried. This really has mellowed out. bit phenolic and medicinal. Very herbal and grassy. its pretty good
