Brewery-filled corked and caged bottle, graciously shared on New Years by injuredreserve. He obtained the bottle from a brewery rep via charitable auction.
Dark, auburn-brown pour. Small light head forms, and laces lightly.
Aroma is malty, slightly nutty, sweet, with a hint of smoke and citrus.
Malty sweet, a little tinny and astringent, background chocolate and roasted malts.
Pushing medium in body, smooth, crisp, creamy, but in the end a hair thin.
Drinkability is solid. This was a pretty solid ale and I'm humbled by the chance to imbibe. Thanks again goes out to shane.

On cask at the Brazen Head, Brooklyn.
Poured a deep amber hue with a half finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.
The smell featured dark malts, pimpernickle bread and a slight bourbon due to the aging (the same barrels that aged Black Ops).
The taste consisted of a slight roasted malt, some cocoa and a bit of bitterness.
The mouthfeel was typical of the style.
Overall a nice improvement on the existing beer.

When I had this beer the bartender said she thought it was a stout. "Not an imperial stout but something stronger than a standard stout." I pegged it as a dark belgian. I guess we were both wrong. The abv was listed higher at this bar so I'm not sure what the actual info is.
It was a good but but a little strong on the dark fruit and yeast character to be called an American Brown in my book.
