Beautiful nutty orange appearance with a nice foam poured at the Taphouse in Hampton, VA.
Malty notes upfront. However, it is a bit harsh and doesn't finish nicely -- the hops are not complimentary. There is something amiss with the emphasis on bitterness and the lack of roundness in the malt department. Medium-bodied but not well-balanced in my opinion. This works better as an amber ale and not so much as the Oktoberfest/Marzen identity.
I think that there are better Oktoberfest beers of U.S. origin that are much better -- I'd even say Sam Adams' version is much cleaner and true to style.
Side note: My gf was drinking a Hofbrau Oktoberfest at the same time and I tried her's for comparison: the Hofbrau was smooth, clean, malty goodness in comparison (although the Hofbrau looked like a macro lager in appearance).

Review from notes
Auburn colored, nice lacing. Mildly nutty with a good dose of malts. Slight touch of metallic. Flavor is malt forward with delicate hop finish. Mild bitterness. Smooth carbonation, crisp. Pretty good overall. Not something I want to seek out but if it's there I'll drink it.

Appearance: 1" cream colored head fades fairly quickly leaving faint soapy looking lacing. Amber color and somewhat cloudy with moderate carbonation
Aroma: toasted bread, caramel, a bit of hop spice
Mouthfeel: mostly light but not as light as a pale lager, just slightly sticky, somewhat dry finish Flavor: toasted bread, caramel malts, a definite hop bite in the middle and finish.
Overall: very good, but not the best Oktoberfest.
