On tap @ the Sunset Grill, Allston, MA.

Dark, clear amber with a thin white lace.

Light raisins and floral in a relatively clean aroma.

Thin, semi-astringent mouthfeel. Hop leaf, coarse, tannins, slightly malty with a dry, bitty feel on the palate. Light esters, some dextrin body and hints of raisin.

Very mediocre on tap. Not malty enough, thin and rough on the palate. Could have been the lines at Sunset ...

Presentation: 12 oz long neck brown bottle, "... brewed in March and stored cold through the summer for sale in autumn." is stated on the neck of the bottle. No freshness date to be found.

Appearance: Reddish orange in hue with a small bubbly creamy lace.

Smell: Clean to the nose with toasted malt and grain in the aroma.

Taste: Medium in body with a crisp carbonation that help carry the slightly chewy malt mouth feel along. Hops are faded though still leave an ample bitterness and a european hop twang. Lots of malt on the palate more caramel than toasted. Hop twang and grain linger for a good while.

Notes: Hmmm ... tastes like an import? Care and dedication for this brew to be created ... several months of aging make for a well palated brew. See it, buy it and enjoy this excellent version of the style.

Review from notes

Auburn colored, nice lacing. Mildly nutty with a good dose of malts. Slight touch of metallic. Flavor is malt forward with delicate hop finish. Mild bitterness. Smooth carbonation, crisp. Pretty good overall. Not something I want to seek out but if it's there I'll drink it.

Serving type: on-tap

Appearance: 1" cream colored head fades fairly quickly leaving faint soapy looking lacing. Amber color and somewhat cloudy with moderate carbonation
Aroma: toasted bread, caramel, a bit of hop spice
Mouthfeel: mostly light but not as light as a pale lager, just slightly sticky, somewhat dry finish Flavor: toasted bread, caramel malts, a definite hop bite in the middle and finish.
Overall: very good, but not the best Oktoberfest.
