'10-'11 12oz. bottle, presumably shortly after its distribution
A: Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with less than a finger brown head.
S: Aroma is of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts.
T: Taste builds on these three with a bit of bitterness (presumably due to hops and the freshness). Update July 2012: I picked up a bottle of this from Winter 11-12, and am noticing it to be distinctly different from my prior review. There's a big tangy dark fruits flavor, which mixes well with the bitter chocolate initially before finishing along with heavy coffee notes, which are most noticeable 15 seconds or so after drinking the beer, as the fruit flavor just begins to subside. This one is really growing on me over the course of the glass.
M: Thick-bodied, slightly sticky mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
D: Alcohol is well hidden, and it's a bit hard to stop sipping this one.
All around quite enjoyable; I suspect, however, that this beer may be be better with age. I remember having one that was approximately a year old, back before I started taking notes on beer, and enjoyed it a bit more.
