Pure white, whipped cream head atop a pleasingly hazy, golden straw-colored body. Very nice head retention and lace.
Classic wheat/yeast nose with a whiff of grapefruit and hop flower.
Taste is surprisingly light (yeast component is much more subdued than other examples I've had), very smooth, with floral hops, and finishing refreshingly dry with a bitter pepper/citrus aftertaste.
Smooth, creamy mouthfeel with perfectly complementing carbonation level.
This is a very drinkable wheat-style beer. Wouldn't mind quaffing a growler of this on a hot summer day...and this from a guy who doesn't really like this style of beer.

A rich looking light amber color with a decent amount of haze to it. Nice looking head at first, but then wham, a full glass of foam on top that really just ruined everything. Took forever to settle down on me.

The aroma was far too light. Notes of grain, light peaches and hints of other fruit, but nothing really shocking here at all. The flavor was more of the same, not really sure what was going on here, but it was just not what I was looking for. The flavor was weak, too light, and just did not have the punch I wanted. Smooth, light carbonation, again could have been a bit more.

Draught @ BTAH. '05 vintage.

Pours a pale yellow, cloudy, with a white head.

Aroma is mellow, banana, spicy yeast,a bit of clove, citrus.

Taste is light, crisp wheat body, bit of banana, with a dryness from the yeast.

Mouthfeel is fluffy, light bodied.

Really an interesting beer to try after aging. Certainly a nice beer, but I found it to be much closer to a wit than to a saison at this point - the hops have really receded until you're left with a deliciously sessionable beer that's the very definition of mellow.

On tap at the Brooklyn Brewery. Yellow, cloudy and nice head.
The smell was of coriander, citrus, cloves and bananas. The taste was spicy, bubblegum and banana-vanilla. The feel was a little too aggressive and despite that it was still sweet and spicy. The carbonation was medium and there was a touch of yeast.
I had about three of these and I would have continued but they switched to brown ale. I must admit that it was a bit acidic/spicy and I felt that it was like having a Leffe Blond, but better.(No offense to either brew.)

Note: I enjoyed this beer, but I suppose when one has a brew at the Brewery one expects the very best taste.
I had a great time that day and everyone with me stayed away from this brew only because they felt it was too strong (wimps). The popular choice that night was the Pilsner.

Had a pint on tap at the Gramercy Tavern

Poured a hazy buttery popcorn gold with a thin head. Tons and Tons of lovely lace was clinging to the side of the glass after each sip

The nose displays strong wheat scents mixed with peppery and corriander notes, a hint of lemon and some sweet malts.

Grainy earthy wheat taste with flavors of clove lemon bubblegum, spicy on the start with peppery and corriander notes.

Medium bodied with active carbonation and a great finish

A wonderful beer that pair extremely well with the Bacon, Spaetzel and Fiddle Head Ferns I enjoyed for Dinner

On draft at Mad Mex Robinson location, appears honey golden large soft white head forms with good retention leaves fine lacing down the 12 ounce offering. Aroma contains nice full spice tones one that's easy to pick out is coriander nice flowery hops with drizzled honey tones from the lucious malt profile, finishes with a touch of muskiness. Taste is uniform with balanced exotic spices also contains an herbal grassy herbal hop flavor sugary sweet malt tones tie it altogether not noticing too much barnyard funk finishs a tad dry. Mouthfeel is slightly spritzy with heightened carbonation somewhat syrupy textured overall medium bodied. Drinkability is very nice a saison that wasn't cloying yet was flavorful enough to captivate me.

Aroma is both spicy and funky..and a tad citrus spritzy. Cloudy gold/yellow with a fast fading white head. Flavor is very spicy with a grainy feel and some sweet cream and vanilla notes. The musty notes stay from fore to finish and I personally enjoyed drinking enough that I ordered a second.

On tap at the Blind Tiger for their tribute to Belgium extraveganza.
I've been meaning to try this brew for quite some time and was happy to see it still at the Tiga.
This was the first time I have been witness to an almost completely opaque saison. It was allllmost scary lookin but ultimately I thought it was cool. Almost looked like lemon meringue in a glass.
Smells pleasantly skunky and funky. Not overwhelmingly so. You know you're going to get something hearty into you when you drink.
Hearty it is! A very flavorful saison. I've never been to Belgium but I think this beer takes me there.
There was something a little harsh in the mouthfeel... a bit of a texture that seemed mildly out of place but it does not detract from the overall experience.
From the Blind Tiger's website: "Wednesday Oct. 19th @ 6:00PM Belgium Beer Event (the American Version) This list is so good that'll you'll cry...really."
I wouldn't say that I broke down in tears... but I did get a bit weepy.
I hope to see this brew on a regular basis.

On tap at Redbones on 9/29/05

Interesting saison. Seemed to have a lot of characteristics I have come to expect of a hefe. Wheat and loads of banana with the usual saison spices toned down a bit.

Poured a cloudy gold with the appearance of coldness.

Nose was cloves and hints of yeast.

Flavor was heavy with wheat and the bananas were a bit of a surprise. Yeast came through rather potent and were actually kind of soothing like cold milk. Lots of cloves and spices danced around the edges. Bits of sweet citrus rinds tried to poke their way through.

Mouthfeel was citrus bitterness with a small bite with a creamy feel.

03 edition at the Blind Tiger's Brooklyn VSK night, 8/05.

Sits in the glass with a medium white eggshell head that leaves a decent amount of lace with each sip. Lots of carbonation shooting through.

Smell is great for a saison, yeasty and cut with just the right proportion of fruit, spice, and a bit of malt.

Flavor is a spicy/sweet wallop with a nice yeasty backbone and some bready malt flavors. Banana comes through pretty clearly as does a bit of crisp pear. My companion and I both thought it had some witbier characteristics, but the prominent yeast and spicy bite establish it firmly in saison territory. Mouthfeel is medium and crisp, nicely done.

Overall: Incredibly surprising for a domestic saison; the best I've ever had. Great effort and one that I suspect is a bit sweeter on the initial gulp after some aging, but I'm not sure. Nicely done.

On tap at Redbones. Dull, cloudy peach body with a thick, whipped, white head. I'm a sucker for these peachy saisons with big white heads. Aroma is spicy, earthy, with orange, coriander, and fruity esters. Taste is much like the smell. Nice, not overly sweet fruity esters, balanced with a good mix of spices and skunky (good skunky) Saazish hops. Has that organic, earthy, farmhouse feel to it too. And that's a good thing. I can taste the alcohol, but it's just right strength-wise. Medium, creamy bodied, with lively carbonation up front. Is it safe to say that this was ispired by Dupont??

This saison was a light golden color with a modest, but lacing head. I sampled it from one of the Sunset's 112 tap lines. The brew had an interesting aroma hinting at clove, citrus, and sugars. The brew was very sweet with a nice blend of banana, subtle, clove, and grain flavors. Unfortunately, it seemed a bit too mild and watery. It was a pleasant wheat based beer, but no rival to the Fantome line, Hennepin or Dupont.

Pours with a hazy, dark yellow body, and a thin, frothy head. Very fruity aromas, almost tropical, with lots of banana, and a bit of yeast. The fruit and yeast flavors cary over to the taste, with a nice balance of dryness, sweetness, and fruit characters.

On tap at Eli's.

A pillowy bright white head that fades to a thin sheet after a moment. Some thin lacing with above average strength throughout the pint glass. A murky, cloudy golden straw color. Some noticeable sediment floating around in the glass.

Some citrus aromatics: lemon and orange that are balanced well with a bold pepper and corriander.

Well balanced citrus quality (hints of apple, lemon, and orange) with a moderate spiciness. The pepper/corriander flavors cut through the citrus right from the beginning and this Saison's flavor is skewed more to the spicy end of the spectrum than its tartness. A bit watery at points.

Light bodied; Thin on the palate (watery IMO). The spiciness of this ale tries to alleviate how light it feels on the palate.

A good version of the style. Not my favorite, but it's worth a try if you can find it. At 6.8% abv, it's a lighter ale that can do some damage if you're not careful.

Had on tap at Redbones this past week. Pour was the color of dep goldenrod, topped with a faint, filmy, white head. This beer was big on aroma, I thought there were some sweet notes, some eyastness, and also some peppery qualities to teh aroma. Tastewise, it wasn't as exciting...one sip, I got powdery yeastiness, the next bubblegum. Alternate that over and over, and that was my taste experience with this one. Medium mouthfeel.

Found this on tap at the Waterfront ale house in Brooklyn. Poured hazy dull golden, with a soft puffy, tiny bubble head with respectable lacing. Musky, yeasty, spicy nose. Soft well rounded mouthfeel. Notes of spice, flowers, slight bublegum, peppery. Tasty, flavorful and complex take on the style. Seek out and enjoy.

Sports a white head over super cloudy orange hued liquid. Spicy Belgian witbier nose with a sweet malt base, flavors of lightly sweet citrus fruit, malty without being too too sweet. Easy drinking with an aftertaste of tanginess, finishes light, refreshing & very drinkable.
