Notes/Commercial Description:
Early American colonialists, seeking natural ingredients for brewing ales, turned to pumpkins, which were plentiful, flavorful and nutritious. Blended with barley malt, pumpkins became a commonly used beer ingredient. Post Road Pumpkin Ale brings back this tasty tradition. Hundreds of pounds of pumpkins are blended into the mash of each batch, creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, biscuity malt center, and crisp finish.

Served in a pub glass. Pours a dark amber/light burnt orange color with very small beige head and moderate streaky lacing.

Smell: I actually smell significant pumpkin! Pleasant oaked ginger ale smell. Nice balance of clove, ginger, cinnamon, and earthiness in the smell. Many times the spices take over the smell.

Taste: Tastes as smells, but better. Pleasant toasty caramel malt, obvious roasted pumpkin taste and sweetness. Pleasant yeasty presence. It is truly like having the pumpkin pie and the crust. Ginger, clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon well balanced. It is perfectly balanced in being sweet and not too sweet and spicy without having the spices take over your taste buds.

Light bodied plus. Slight oiliness on the initial, finishes with a pleasant spiciness and slightly dry hop finish. It's not syrupy, but it does have a certain stickiness in the mouthfeel that I can't really describe, but I like it.

Easy to drink, pleasant tasting. Priced reasonably. A truly well done pumpkin ale.
