On tap at the grand reopening of Buckley's Irish Pub in Center Moriches, NY. They had a moderate beer line up, sporting usual BMC piss water plus some interesting craft choices, including this.
Deep orange to amber in appearance, resembling the color of caramel, capped with a modest white head that can't be bothered to hang out too long.
Roasted pumpkin dominates the nose, complemented by the usual suspects from the spice rack: cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice, etc. Doesn't overdo it though, allowing for some modest grass from the hops.
Much more balanced than other pumpkin spice beers I've had so far this year. All the expected flavors are present, but work together, rather than trying to overtake each-other and overload you with sweetness. Caramel malt backbone provides some bread like attributes to complement the pumpkin and spice. Again a slight hop bitterness is present, reminding you that you are actually drinking a beer, not a pumpkin pie after a lost bout with a blender.
Medium bodied, mildly creamy and rather drinkable, although it lacks some carbonation and is a wee bit watery. One pint was enough for me, I switched to Guinness after this.
Not a bad take on a pumpkin beer, I enjoyed it, but as with pretty much all pumpkin beers, I only need one in a night.
