Appearance: There are only so many ways to say black.

Smell: Sweet.

Taste: This tastes understated: sweet, chocolate, flavors mixed with burned flavors. On the tongue is slightly sweet bitterness. Off the tongue is reminiscent of coffee; dry and burned.

Mouthfeel: Heavy.

Overall: This is a nice stout. I'd certainly have this again.

Tasted vs Maryland's Flying Dog Pearl Necklace which was better.

A: tan head settled too fast into the body, and leaves some dotty lacing. 3.75

S: Not much here. Guinness out guns this in both appearance, smell, and body. Must let it warm, but I get smoke, wet fall leaves, some pretzelly malt. More wood smoke and sweet malt as it warms. Better 2nd time around. 3.5

T: Good tingly, bitter finish. A bit confusing vanilla, caramel, and smoke flavors upfront that resolve in a hop/bitter finish with a bit of prune. Feels mass produced, watery, when cold. Fuller, smokier, and more stout like as it warms 3.5

MF: Thin feel, thin, watery experience. 3.25

O: Another beer that made me want pretzels because it lacked enough flavor or bite. 3.5

Deep Deep brown color but with relatively good clarity. Tan tinged half finger of head. Nose consists of lots of coffee, roasted barley, some espresso, touches of asphalt.

A really nice session stout actually. Pretty bold on the roasty flavor on the back end but pretty brisk as well. Some sweeter grains up front followed by a huge explosion of roasted grains, coffee flavor, bitter black chocolate. The beer delivers with a nice super dry yet balanced finish and a lingering roastiness. Not bitter, but balanced very nicely. Medium bodied, burnt toast ends and toasted hearty breads. Great flavor and amazing drinkability.
