Poured from a 12 fl oz (355 ml) bottle into a tulip glass.

You can never go wrong with a brew from The Brooklyn Brewery. Nose is a nice roast hops with an airy scent of coffee. Pours a rich dark brown almost black, like liquid dark chocolate. Head has small bubbles, rich in appearance that hugs the inner glass. Second nose now detects the chocolate, but barely. First taste is light: More coffee than chocolate, although it's there (can't really call it mocha: For the two are distinct on their own). I don't think they roasted the hops as long as one might usually to produce a porter, doppelbock or especially, a stout. Surprisingly crisp at the finish. One disappointment of the Dry Irish Stout is that with all these interactions, I found it somewhat one dimensional. The flavours and the ingredients didn't seem to be layered together as well I thought it ought to be. Still, this is a very good, yet disarmingly easy-going brew.

03/27/14 On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC.

First impression is a lack of body. Maybe I'm spoiled w/nitro laced stouts but methinks they are prevalent in the field for a reason.

Coffee flavors border on espresso strength. Very slight head w/delicate/wispy lacing. Virtually no aftertaste.

Bottom line: this is a perfect example of how flavor is not all it takes for a brew these days. There is a substantial flavor but it's seems one dimensional especially without a robust texture to match.

An excellent stout in a bottle. Smooth and sweet. A great sipping beer on a cool evening

I would recommend this to anyone who likes stouts and wants an alternative to Guinness or any other more popular stouts.

Not too bitter and a good overall feel to it
