Appearance: Pours a crystal clear yellow. Decadent white head.

Smell: Grassy, herbal, lemon scent. Spot on.

Taste: Perfect example for the style. Earthy and very bitter.

Mouthfeel: Bone dry, crisp and refreshing.

Overall: this is an excellent representation of a German pils. Right up there with with the best of them.

I LOVE THIS PILS!

Poured from the tap, at The original Brooklyn pizza.
The appearance was nice, a hazy golden with thick head.
Smell was grainy and a bit malty.
Taste was of cereal and had some grassiness, delicious.
The carbonation was right on for the type of German pilsner I think this represents.
Overall,t he brew is yummy and I keep ordering this, they are able to price it so high because Brooklyn uses quality ingredients and it is just yummy.

On tap at Winking Lizards Tavern. Shorter review since I was eating dinner. This beer really surprised me.

Appearance - A translucent elixir-like gold color. Very vibrant and almost shiny in a way. A nice retentive foamy head that takes quite awhile to fade.

Smell - A really impressive scent. Smells of delicious citrusy malts with a complex sweetness. Light spice.

Taste - An excellent malt backing to a zingy, lightly sweet and malty beer. Light pepper spice with faint clove spread across a piece of wheat bread.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability - Extremely wall-balanced and sessionable. Went down smooth and fast. Avoided the skunky hop taste that I've experienced in the last few pilsners I have tried. Light-bodied, crisp, and perfect for summer.

Not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. Not to say it was bad, it was fine. Just not as good as I expected.
Soft graininess in both the aroma and taste. Rather predominent. Hop flavors notable, but not necessarily pleasing to my palate. Bitterness a little subdued.
Attractive, of course, with a slightly cloudy appearance and bright white head.
Feel was all right - soft, a little heavy and not as crisp and clean as I'd expect for style.
I like so many of Brooklyn's beers - this trends towards the bottle of the list.

Had on tap this afternoon with lunch at the Chelsea Grill in NYC. Served in a pint glass.

a - Pours a somewhat transparent orange color with one inch of white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of wheat, grains, bready malts, biscuit, and light floral hops. Pretty average...just a lot of wheat and grain.

t - Tastes of wheat, fruity malts, floral hops, grains, bready malts, and biscuit malts. Much better than the nose thanks to some fruit and more floral hops.

m - Light to medium body and moderate carbonation. Very easy to drink.

o - Overall an above average pilsner, though the nose is a bit bland. Easy to drink and some nice fruit and floral notes in the taste. Would drink it again if I was looking for a light pilsner.

Pint on tap at Sonny's in Portland ME into a Miller High Life glass.

A: light gold in color, minimal white head, minimal retention.

S: colorful, floral, citrusy hops all apparent in the nose.

T: floral hops predominate but backed up by nice malt backbone, the floral notes include citrus, strawberry, and melon.

M: good, light bodied, appropriate carbonation.

O: a good beer, recommendable.

a really great american pilsner, as pilsners go. pours a conventional light yellow color but has a large cloud-like head. smells like more than the traditional pilsners do, notes of vanilla and pitted fruit. taste is on the sweeter side, not dry at all. really nice hop additions as well. great medium/light body makes this a not-boring pilser to session. definitely one of the more inspired versions i have had

Pours to a frothy, lacy white head and pale gold color. Aroma is sweet malt and noble hops. Flavor is mild with a balance of sweet pale malt and noble hops. There's a slight butteriness and fullness of flavor akin to a Czech pils. Mouthfeel is light and carbonation is right. Very tasty but not quite as sharp as most German pils. I like it anyway.

On tap at Room 11 last night.

A clear yellow with a dense, white head with excellent retention and lacing, this is a gorgeous beer. The nose is chock-full of doughy and cracker-like malt. There's some honey as well, and the hop character is surprisingly restrained with a blend of floral and earthy with a little lemon. The hops are much more assertive on the palate. Opening with a blend of spicy hop flavor and doughy, bready malt, this beer has a very rustic malt character. Particularly bitter on the finish with some lemon peel, this beer is light in body and is amply carbonated. The bitterness is too high for the style (IMO), but apart from that, this is a solid pils.

Had this on tap at Dewey's Pizza in Newport, KY. Served in a pint glass.

Appearance: The body of the beer is a dark golden/straw color, topped by a thin, wispy head of eggshell-colored foam which lingers around as a collar but leaves little in the way of lacing. Some carbonation bubbles rise to the top.

Smell: Very nice and crisp pilsner smell. There are some grassy and spicy notes from the hops as well as a solid backing of sweetness from the malt. More on the hoppy end of the spectrum, but still very balanced and clean on the nose, although it's a little faint.

Taste: Crisp and dry, but very good. Some spicy and grassy hops hit the palate at first and twist into some citrus notes mid-palate, something which becomes more detectable as the beer warms. The beer finishes with notes of honey and sweetness from the malt. A fairly simple beer overall, but this was refreshing and just what I was looking for at the time.

Mouthfeel: Very crisp and clean in the mouth, slightly dry finish. Well-placed carbonation helps the light-medium body go down very smoothly.

A very solid pilsner, glad I got to try this. Maybe it doesn't stack up against others I've had, but when paired with the right food, it's really quite good.

Pale golden colour, tight one finger of sticky head, some lace on the glass. Smells slightly hoppy, grassy, some malt, light lemony citrus, nice light fresh nose. Taste is of crisp hop, grassy notes come back, solid malt finish, pretty clean brew. Thin mouthfeel, slightly watery, very crisp carbonation. Drinks very nicely, I probably wouldn't order/buy this all the time but it would be a good beer from time to time in the warm weather.

Had on tap at the restaurant Pie in Port Jefferson, NY. Served in a pint glass.

Look: clear, light golden color with a thin white head. The head doesn't last for very long but while its there it leaves some lacing, though the lacing also seems to disappear shortly.

Smell: some pale malt notes and some honey but not much in the way of hops.

Taste: pale malt with some bready flavors, not much in terms of hop taste, but some chalkiness in the finish.

Feel: fairly dry which is odd considering the low ABV. Crisp and well carbonated though.

Drink: I probably wouldn't want more than one. The chalk flavor in the finish makes it tough to drink a lot of these and, well, isn't that the point of a pilsener?

Overall, fairly disappointed on this one. I don't know what I expected, exactly, but I didn't get anything I would want to try again. Brooklyn can be a little hit or miss sometimes and this one was a miss. I'd go elsewhere if pilseners are your thing.

I'm not an expert on/or even very versed when it comes to pilsner. But I do know that my this fulfilled my prior expectations to what a pilsner should taste like. The beer overall, left me with an impression of being very pure. That was my perception of everything. The look was pure, the smell was dry and clean. Very simple but pleasant. And the taste was excellently balanced with a very clean finish.

Once again. Pure, clean, simple. Good.

A: pale straw in color with little head and lazy lacing. I feel that this is undercarbonated, which is understandable in a bar setting; it's costly to set each beer to is appropriate level.

S: bouquet is faint, with malt, sulfur, and spicy hops as key players.

T: very traditional in taste; both grain and hop fight tooth and nail for the dominant position, but neither really wins. this pils is none dry, and displays just a touch of the sulfury bite that is common for the style.

M: very light and clean, leaving no residue on the palate. The carbonation is also quite enjoyable.

D: another great offering from Brooklyn. I would even venture to say that this is a better brew than their flagship Lager. If only Americans appreciated a well made pils....

@ the Indie, Somerville MA

Pale straw color with a thin white, "solid" head. Eh retention but great lace. Go figure.

Smells of dense, light malt. That's about it. Maybe a smattering of sulfur?

Not crisp at all but has a fairly dense mouthfeel--like a pils mousse. Rich, light malt with a very subtle noble hop character.

Maybe I just had a more summery lager in mind 'cause it's not a bad beer by any standard. Maybe more of a winter time pils.

On tap at the brewery, December 2009.

Very pale yellow colour, with some meringuey foam of pure white. Collapses pretty quickly but leaves a bit of lacing. Looks pretty decent overall.

Nose is pretty weak, which is a real shame. A little hint of herbal bite, with a slightly resinous lemon acidity - hints of bitterness, but nothing sharp like a true pils. Not bad, but not great.

Taste is a little better, with a pleasant hop bitterness that stays firm and clear, but the body feels rather weak, and the feel is very thin despite some spritzy carbonic acidity.

It's not a bad drop, and it's very clean and crisp, but it lacks a lot of the true pilsener characters that would make it really good. As it stands, I think it's the lesser of it and the Brooklyn Lager, which I find a little confusing.

Served on-tap at The Pizza Joint in Evans, GA.

Pours a nice color of golden straw; sadly, the head is quite thin and patchy, showing a bit of stick on the sides of the vessel. Not the greatest-looking Pils in the world, that's for sure.

Aroma is full of buttery diacetyl; in fact, it's like a slice of toast slathered in butter, with almost all butter and just a bit of toasted bread hiding in the background.

Medium-bodied and nicely carbonated, giving it a pleasant mouthfeel. A touch of bready malt up front gives way to a snappy, grassy hop bite in the middle, giving over to a slightly grainy and mostly dry finish, without much aftertaste lingering around.

Easy-drinking, but lacking in the nose; the diacetyl character is certainly undesireable in such a brew. Perhaps this is isolated and can be attributed to other factors in the age of the keg or the tap lines, but either way, aside from that it is a fairly nicely crafted Pilsner.

On tap at Brooklyn Brewery on 1/16/09. Served in a 12oz. logo plastic cup.

A - Golden/peach-colored body akin to apple juice with a thin, bubbly white head that diminished to a thin ring of retention and left adequate lacing.

S - Pretty muted nose with a touch of grass, lemon and biscuity malt and grains. Pretty reserved overall.

T - Opens with a biscuity/bready malt flavor with a touch of grassy hops and a subtle lemony citrus character. Finishes with a grainy malt character and a hint of butter.

M - Light bodied with a slight syrupy texture and medium carbonation. Finish is pretty crisp and dry with a moderate hop bite on the palate.

D - There's no questions that it's easy to drink. I find pilsners to be quite sessionable, and this is no exception. Nothing outstanding, just a solid pilsner.

On-tap into pint glass.

Clear golden hue with a one finger off white head that slowly settles to a thin cap. The aroma is very light, with bits of grain and a good balancing amount of noble hops. The flavor was a subtly sweet bready flavor with just a touch of bitterness from the hops. Light bodied with a good amount of carbonation.

This is certainly a very refreshing beer, great to have in the summer. The low %ABV makes it very sessionable as well.

Poured a clear straw yellow with a medium white ehad and great lacing.
Aromas of sweet malt, floral hops, and earthy grass were present, but nothing too overpowering.
Grass, hops, sweet malts and butter came across in the taste, btu once again this was balanced well and not one thing was drastically overpowering of the others.
The feel was slightly sweet but finished more bitter and dry. Despite this, there was still the tongue-coating buttery feel. Very good.

From the tap, the drink had an amber-orange appearance with some decent lacing. The smells were quite good: an almost vanilla-like malt aroma complimented the otherwise citrus smells. The taste had a malt-vanilla candy taste to it. However, I felt that the flavors were way to artificial and confectionery to be enjoyed. The carbonation was awful though; it was pretty weak and dull in general and just did not keep it alive. Overall, it had a decent taste but a bad feel.

This beer poured a clear goldenrod from the tap and into the pint glass. A thin white head rest atop the brew. Aroma was very sweet and mellow. Slight hint of grass, perhaps.

This is a fairly standard pilsener, with a nice malty profile and some slight herbal hop essence for balance. It's is very sweet, almost too sweet for a pils. The hop profile didn't make it's way through enough for this one to really be great. It's a nice, solid, drinkable beer, but you can find better around this brewery.
