Notes / Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Greenmarket Wheat Beer is brewed from 70% New York State-grown wheat and barley. Drinking this lovely beer helps reinvigorate the state’s grain industry and benefit GrowNYC's mission to support family farms, farmers markets, gardens, recycling and education. Greenmarket Wheat is as bright and refreshing as a summer day. The Raw wheat gives this beer its zing, barley malt brings depth, and Belgian yeast lends complexity. Accented with orange peel, local honey and a dash of coriander, the beer is naturally carbonated by re-fermentation in handsome 750ml bottles.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Some sediment left on the bottom of the bottle after a full pour.

Hits the nostrils with yeast, clove and banana plus fainter baked bread.

Flavor: largely follows the nose. Good balance for style with none of the elements overly dominant. Grains come to the fore in the aftertaste.

Overall: excellent for style, even by German standards.

Had a pint at Kent Ale House. Reminds me of Schneider Weisse and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a similar yeast. There's orange peel popping into the flavor, but the clove, earthy spice, and wheat bread dominate. Very smooth and drinkable. A great hefe.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at "The Pub" in Gettysburg, PA. This beer has a murky golden color with a small white head. The aroma is full of fruit and wheat, very nice. The taste is on par with other really good hefeweizens, a lot wheat and fruit mixed with some clove.

Bit confused by the reviews. The label on the bottle state that a Bavarian yeast was used. Perhaps the 2014 version is different. I am reviewing this beer as a hefeweizen.

Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a short puffy white head that settled into a small cap. No big pillowy head that I usually see from a hefe. Not a lot of yeasty residue from the bottle.

The aroma is of a wheat malt, slightly musty with a hint of metal. Nice banana and clove notes from the yeast. A touch of tart apple.

The taste is strong on the yeast. Banana and clove are forefront. Nice crisp wheat flavor. Light lemon and tart apple. The malt shows through a bit more than most hefeweizens, a bit more crisp.

Moderate feel. A bit crisp. Sweet and spicy on the palate. A bit tart in the finish.

A nice hefe, not mind blowing. Drinks easy. Not an overly yeasty hefe.

Nice wheat beer from Brooklyn. Lots of light fruit, hints of esters common to hefeweizens, some tooth to it but lighter and with a lot of clarity for an unfiltered version. The grains come through brilliantly. I'd position this somewhere between an American Summer Wheat and a German Hefe. The addition of coriander, orange peel, and honey make for some added nuance. Not heavy at all, as some Belgian white (wit) beers can be (not that that's a bad thing). Very mild sweetness at the end that carries a medium finish.

A: The beer is hazy light golden yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a large collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of wheat are present in the nose along with notes of Belgian yeast and hints of orange peels.
T: The taste is dominated by flavors of wheat malts and has some hints of honey and coriander, the latter of which stands out a little bit more towards the finish.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink. The beer seems a little similar to the Brooklyner Weisse, although you can definitely tell that Belgian yeast was used in lieu of Bavarian yeast and that honey and orange peels were included in the ingredients.

Draft pour - comes out an inviting deep, burnt orange/tangerine to golden hue. Cloves and coriander come out in the aromatics, with a banana accented yeastiness on the front end of the taste. Refreshing and light on the palate. Lively, seemingly built for spring and summer days. Goes down nicely.

Best thing about this beer is the color. Gorgeous golden apricot. Tiny head quickly falls flat.

First hit in the nostrils is yeast and raw malt followed by some tropical fruit and clove and candy sugar. No great dimension going on here.

Taste is sweet candy apricot, mango, banana and clove. Conventional. Texture is thin.

Overall, surprisingly uninteresting for something from this great brewery.
