Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

A collaboration between Garrett Oliver and Lior “The Spice Whisperer” Lev Sercarz, Cuvée La Boîte is a Belgian-inspired beer in the “Grand Cru” style, subtly infused with Lior’s unique blend of Mish Mish (lemon, saffron, crystalized honey), fresh kaffir lime leaves, and rare Espelette peppers from the French Pyré-nées. In his book, The Art of Blending, Lior compares making a spice blend to organizing a party. The beer is around 7.9% ABV

32 ounce growler filled at DeCicco's in Ardsley, NY ($8.99)

Pours clouded orangy amber, moderate off white head that quickly fades, next to no film, just a whiff of some low sheeting, a very thin collar and next to no bubbles rising.

Fruit juicy nose, with some lemon and lite pepper.

More fruit on the palate, with again lemon showing itself. Some honey yes, but I'm def. not getting the "rare espelette peppers from the french Pyrnes" gimme a frickin break!

Alcohol a bit to showy here and I'm not really in love with the heavy body and low carbonation I'm feeling. Seems a wee bit off to tell the truth....swing and a miss from Brooklyn

Another of the elusive Ghost Bottles. A few months, (3) old. Lovely golden color with a touch of chill haze. Prodigious somewhat rocky head with clumps of lace. Stays covered nicely. Nose has light malt and wheat edge with sweet aromas of honey, candy and alcohol. Some bubblegum. Yeast esters bring a soupçon of banana and more pronounced light fruits, apples, pear, and grapes. Citrus notes add a vivacious brightness. Peppery spiciness has a bit of cinnamon as the light fusel edge heats the nostrils. Taste is excellent with a classic pale malt body enlivened by wheat twang. Juicy cantaloupe, bubblegum, and cinnamon. Lots of spice interplay with the lime leaves and lemon peel. An earthy dry hop finish that brings some horse blanket and funk. It's more pronounced as the yeast is introduced in the glass. Indeed there is a light astringency that shows along with a bit of nuttiness. As it warms the complexity and density of the brew builds. Feel is slightly full and creamy. Crisp dryness. Velvety swallow. A wonderful brew that will work with almost anything you can chew I think. It certainly works on its own.

Hazy light copper in color. Thin white head with a little lacing down the glass. Smells of clove and pear. Little to no hop aroma--lots of belgian fruity aroma. Taste is dominated by spice and fruity Belgian notes. Starts off slighly tangy, almost citric and follows up with sweetness and pear flavors. In the background is a hint of spices that I can't quite place. Very rich beer with a fully body and lots of hefty flavors going on. Definitely a sipper and a bit too overwhelming for me. Still, very nicely balanced for what it is.
