Cola-colored and clear, with a nice offwhite head. Good retention with a trace amount of lacing. Aromas are of maple syrup and caramel sweetness, plus some woody smells.
The taste is mainly about nutty and toasted malts; semi-sweet, with little or no bitterness. Medium bodied, it finishes lightly sweet with a bready flavor.
I liked this beer — it reminded me a lot of a nut brown ale. Not sure I picked up the spruce to great effect, but it is quite tasty.
