Whys this say retired? pretty sure this beer was just released. Darker color then expected, deep deep chestnut with a foamy off white head. Very nice roasty and nutty nose with touches of Dulce de leche, chocolate, and rich sweet caramel. Wow, really different, does kind of drink like a dubbel tripel blend. Sweet caramel and chocolate on the front end with chestnut flavor through out. Dubbel like flavors with a tripel like mouthfeel and body. Bright effervescence clean snappy finish. Pretty well balanced, complex and well layered. Caramel comes through nicely and is the dominant flavor of this beer. Dry tripel like finish balances the brew. So rich up front and crisp on the back end. Really really unique. Not the best beer I've ever had but it really pulls off something nice and different here. I love it. Alcohol slightly detectable but not bad at all.

Bought a 750-mL bottle at the brewer back in June. Poured into a oversized tulip glass for review. Pours a dark opaque brown with amber edges. Great lacing on the glass with fluffy head. Smells like burnt raisins with molasses, brown sugar and carmelly taffy. Tastes chewy with similar tastes as aroma. Feels medium to full. Overall, okay one-off. Like the idea of a Tripel/Dubbel hybrid, but I feel this one can't really find it's identity. Seems more like a dubbel to me. Even with that, still a decent beer. Not sure it's worth $10 a bottle, but still def worth trying.

Bottle shared by Jeff. Thanks man.

The beer is dark chestnut brown with a thick, beige head. Ample lacing coats the glass. The aroma offers a prominent dose of banana, followed by Belgian yeast, malt, brown bread. Too much banana character in the flavor. A bit sharp and unbalanced. Not on par with the authentic Belgian dark beers I have grown to love.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a murky brown color with some light hints of red within. Upon pouring there is a tan colored head of about one finger height. The head is composed of lots of fizzy bubbles fading fast to leave some light streaking lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is heavy of darker fruits with plum, cherry and raisin. Along with the fruit there is a rather strong roasted malt aroma as well as sweeter smells of toffee and candied sugar. Rounding out the smell is an aroma of yeast bringing with it some notes of coriander and clove spice as well as some banana.

Taste – The taste begins with a sweet and roasted malt flavor upfront. The sweet is heavier of a caramel and toffee flavor at the start, but transitions to being more dominated by some darker and lighter fruits more toward the middle and the end of the taste. Along with the fruits coming into the tongue, so too does some spice flavors of clove and coriander with just a hint of yeast. A chocolate flavor develops more at the end of the tongue and is joined by some warming boozy alcohol tastes to end up leaving a sweet and darker malt flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is average to slightly high. The combination is very nice for the darker and warming flavors of the brew all while complimenting well the fruitiness of the beer.

Overall- Very dubbel like in nature but with a bit more potency and some notes of a triple mixed within. A rather enjoyable brew for sure.

No freshness dating

A= Pours a dark brown almost black color with a finger of thick head on it that holds steady retention with a light brownish color. Solid lacing on the side of the glass.

S= The smell has a nice dark roasty malt aroma to it with little of the Belgian candy sugar smell that I don't usually care for as much when it's overpowering. The Belgian yeast is kept tame in the nose as well but does make itself present lending wafts of esters. The plums and dark fruit Belgians usually have are not in the nose too much.

T= The taste has a nice dark cherry flavor that I notice immediately. The Belgian yeast esters come through a little more but they are not over the top. The black cherry is most dominate and it is unique to this beer. I haven't had too many beers with such a nice flavor. There is a little biscuit malt coming through the end and a nice dark fruit plum compliment follows.

M= A nice mellow carbonation.

O= This beer I wasn't expecting to enjoy as much. Dubbels aren't usually my thing but this beer is an exception. First beer from Yards and it's a winner. Check this beer out for sure if you can and big props to MPLSbrewer for the hook up!
