American Pale Ale (APA) |  4.30% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Not to be boastful, but we honestly believe all others pale in comparison to this one. Crisp and hoppy, Philadelphia Pale Ale is brewed with Pilsner malt and American hops, which impart a surprising citrus aroma.

Poured a medium clear gold with a big foamy white head. The head is huge in a Spiegelau IPA glass and leaves sticky lacing. The aroma is malty, with nice bread notes and a little hint of earthy hops. The taste is equally mild, somewhere between a pilsner and a pale. It's an interesting combination. It's got a lighter body, most likely from the malt bill, but there is a nice crispness on the finish. This is a good session pale ale.

Pours out to a one inch had that falls to a quarter inch and erratically laces the glass. This APA is very pale--a light gold hue. Aroma is on the subtle side with citrus and floral hops and pale malts. Flavor is also easygoing with a nice balance of sticky malts and crisp hops leading to a dry, refreshing finish. Mouthfeel is light for style. Overall, at 4.6%abv, it makes for a very sessionable pale ale. I had a few and kept my shit together.

This brewer has disappointed a couple of times, but their core offerings (Phila Pale Ale, Good Hope IPA) are excellent. I am a fan of the style APA and always like a new departure.

Appearance: Pours a clear golden color with a frothy white head that leaves medium lacing.

Smell: Floral, pithy nose with a hint of apricot, and a wide malt base. Kind of English. Very approachable, appetizing, good food beer.

Taste: Starts out with a lemon, floral, apricot approach followed by bitter, citrus hops that provide strong, long finish.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Pleasant. good finish. Would have another.

Drinkability: Must try for APA fans. Hoppy, but not over your head.
