Our Cape of Good Hope, which changes year to year, pays homage to the original style and adventurous spirit of the first British IPAs. This past year’s release, a west coast style double IPA, is brewed with 100% pilsner malt, imparting a subtle maltiness and beautiful golden color. Loaded with hops, there’s Columbus in the kettle and Centennial in the whirlpool. Then it’s dry hopped with El Dorado, Calypso, and Galaxy, resulting in a dry, crisp ale with unmistakable flavors and aromas of tropical fruits.

Not too shabby. A little bit too malty for my taste, but a really solid attempt from a great brewery. Drinkability was the best quality here, nothing else stood out as significant for me here.

Pours hazed golden yellow with a creamy head. Lacing sticks.

The smell is citric, herbal/floral.

The taste is citric/herbal with bready, grainy backing. There's a sweet kiss in the middle.. Finishes with a bitter dryness. Some alcohol is noticeable.

Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation, this is an enjoyable IPA!

[2014 version (West Coast style) - served in a snifter]

L: gummy, white foam stand... yellow-amber and dry-hop hazy

S: orange/grapefruit skin (perfumy), circus peanut

T: semi-dry, nutty-malty finish... flash of mango midway, which lingers later aside malt flavors and a leafy bitterness... dank, sticky resins linger in the aftertaste

F: medium-thick, flowing in a frothy coat... late heat in the belly

O: another one of Yards' superbly dry, yet pulpy-fruity IPAs

Excellent IPA. Very light in color but with great body. Super drinkable considering the 8.1 ABV. Nice citrus hops and a clean finish. Well done Yards!
