A nice bright orange/amber hue with a fluffy sticky yet quit to die bright white head. A bit of soapy hop on the nose and lots of sweet malt. Very sweet and malt forward beer. Belgian IPA might be stretch but it does have some balancing bitterness. A touch of deep dark fruits like fifs and raisins, sweet malts, bright hops, and faint belgian yeasty esters to remind you of the belgian influence, lingering sweetness with a lingering bitterness on the balance. My girlfriend described it pretty well: the flavor of a bigger beer but lighter and subtler like a session ale. To counter that though, a touch of alcohol is detectable, however it is a pretty soft beer for such a big beer, pretty good, can't say its worth $10 bucks a bomber but worth the try and interesting, belgian influence is subtle but there, hops arent prevalent but there, same can be said about the malts. everything's there in moderation and it works but it doesnt wow.

A - A slightly vigorous pour yields a voluminous three plus finger's worth of crisp airy yet densely packed bone white colored froth with a lopsided top... Excellent retention... The color is rather interesting - In a 1,000 plus review this is the first time I noting a light rose color... There are also some faint pale amber undertones... Gobs of lacing cling to the sides of the glass... Almost completely still with just an occasional stray carbonation bubble rising randomly within...

S - A fairly mild mix of sweetness and fruitiness... Honey... Natural cane sugars... Nectarine... Oranges... A bit of melon... A very faint underlying layer of hoppiness... Perhaps some very light floral notes as well... Quite inviting and certainly a bit different from other Belgian IPAs...

T - A nice hop bite to being with that is a bit earthy in its nature... Next comes the expected rush of sweetness and fruits... It's dominated by what's presumably the local wildflower honey... There are some subtle fruit notes as alluded to by thenose... The finish is dominated by a unique mix of grassy / leafy earthiness... The hops then rise and intensify a bit on the finish... An interesting mix that challenges the palate...

M - Medium bodied... Starts lush before quickly displaying a touch of dryness that lasts throughout... A lite carbonated bit on the tongue... Moderately sleek... A bit sticky...

D - A bit less than a the sum of its parts... An interesting and challenging beer that I'm happy I tried, but is neither one I would recommend nor care to revisit again... Very unique appearance, aroma and flavor... However, unique doesn't in this case is neither good nor bad, it's just different... Add in the ugly cicada on the label and the end result is a slight miss from one of my favorite breweries that I'm seldom let down by...

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into Brewer's Art goblet. Moderate hand. No identifiable date on the label.

A: Dark orange with good clarity. 1 finger off-white head with good retention. Very nice lacing.

S: Hops - more fruity than piney. Some grapefruit, citrus. Honey. Brown sugar. Bready sweetness. Faint spice. Wisps of floral notes.

T: Round, honey-tinged sweetness transitions to a balanced American-type hopping. Semi-dry finish with juxtaposition of equal parts malt and hops in the aftertaste. Light alcohol. Some vanilla. Light oak notes. Slight pine.

M: Moderate carbonation with moderately full body. Lightly creamy. Smooth.

O: I got very little Belgian out of this. Drinks more like a American DIPA or a mild barley wine. So, it fails as a "Belgian" IPA, but does decently as one of the former.

Pours amber with a rich, creamy head that leaves plenty of rings of lacing.

The smell is musty with a hint of raw honey and vague citric notes.

The taste is musty with honey, but not too sweet. There are citric/herbal notes. It has a dry finish, with a hint of alcohol showing.

It is pretty smooth. I would up the feel just a bit but it says in the "very good" range and just doesn't get to anything "outstanding".

Other than some mustiness perhaps, I just don't get the "Belgian" aspect. That would be fine, but the honey is a bit too much, and while not making it too sweet, it seems to mask the hoppy aspect. I'm not sure I'm a fan of yet unnamed hops.

Overall, it seems from the description that I didn't like it - and that's not true. But, I didn't love it. It's nice, but nothing outstanding. I'm wondering if the honey part really added or detracted. Oh, well...it's a nice beer anyway.
