Poured a deep brown/ruby color with a small off-white head. The aroma was lots of roasted malts, chocolate and mild fruits.
The taste included prominent roasted malts, chocolate, raspberry, caramel.
The mouthfeel was decent, with a bittersweet chocolate permeating throughout, and a dry crispness finishing the beer off.
I had this beer on a hot summer day in the Manteo location, and even for its semi-heavy nature, it was great to enjoy. I'd say it was very drinkable.

Served in a large glass mug while seated in the bar of The Weeping Radish, the first thing that struck me was the intensely dark-brown color and the contrasting ecru-hued, one-finger head of this beer. The aroma was mainly of dark malts. Flavors of dark nuts and coffee dominate, while some sweet overtones keep it complex and intriguing. A bit of hop bitterness lingers at the finish. Although the other brews I've tasted from The Weeping Radish are rather lean, this one has a nice thick texture with a medium carbonation. I really enjoyed this drink; it's a shame they don't distribute–they only sell at the restaurant bar and by the bottle in the internal gift shop–because I would drink this very often!

This is a 1 L growler from the Manteo location served chilled in a seidel.

A: The beer is a deep brown color with garnet red hints and a small ring of head and no lacing.

S: There are roasted chocolate malts in the nose.

T: The roasted taste is somewhat thin and watered down. Chocolate and caramel flavors emerge quickly. The chocolate flavor keeps popping up in the back of my mouth, finishing surprisingly long for the thin taste.

M: The flavors last longer that I expected, assisting the mouthfeel.

D: Very drinkable representative of the dunkel lager style.

Appearance: Arrives at the table with a dark brown color and a decent head that drops quickly and leaves traces of lacing

Smell: Caramel aromas dominate, somewhat roasted

Taste: Up front, the caramel flavors set the tone, followed by a milk chocalate finish; there is also that "lager twang" that pokes through

Mouthfeel: Thin bodied with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Certainly an enjoyable beer, but I have had other dunkels I prefer more

Very healthy head overflowed the cup, left a hearty lacing. Black coffee colored body.

Smelled of sweet malts.

Tasted of malts. Slight bitter cola and mild anise flavor. Shallow finish.

Texture was moderate but ended a bit thin.

Not one I would order again, but I'm glad I tried it.

One of the beers that really got me into US micros several years ago. And unfortunately all Weeping Radish stuff is getting harder and harder to find. Alas...

Poured a super-foamy, rocky head, completely drifted, like the head of a wild homebrew. Dark caramel/brown color.

Aroma is an appealing mass of malt, accented with anise, honey sweetness and even a roasted vibe.

Taste is complex: Chocolate hits first, Tootsie Rolls to be exact. Malt follows and dominates, with hops arriving later. Also an overall pungency and tartness that reminds of overripe dark fruits.

A great dessert-type beer, my last sip only made me want another.

Very dark slightly reddish brown, with a medium-sized, tan, foamy head that rather quickly diminishes. Only some sparse lacing. The smell is of roasted malts and is lightly sweet. Caramel, chocolate and coffee. The taste starts out with a quick hit of hops before fading to let the malts take control. Then the hops return on the finish to add a nice clean crispness. Not too shabby. I’d drink it again.

I was expecting more out of this beer.
It poured with little head. The color is very dark brown. The smell is like roasted grain with a slight alcohol ting. The taste is like a higher alcohol stout but without that punch you get from a double stout. The mouthfeel could be a little better. It has a slight bite to it that I do not like. Not enough to keep me from this beer again. Overall a good beer from my homestate. I will have one of these again. I will try to sample their entire line.

Pours a dark brown to black color with red hues when held up to the light. Good 1/2" creamy and carbonated head with poor retention. Has a kind of chocolate coffee smell with a faint hint of citrus fruit in the background. Most noticable taste is that of burnt toast. Also taste coffee and has a nice dry burnt finish. Very grainy and bready. Mouthfeel is fine just a bit too carbonated for a full-bodied beer for me. This is my first offering from Wheeping Radish and it is very solid. I look forward to trying other beers from thier line in the future.

Pours a deep, dark brown with the slightest hints of dark amber at the very edges of the glass. Not much head, and what's there disappears quickly.

It has a nice roasted malt taste upfront, with a spicy edge right behind. It's slightly bready, like you'd expect from many lagers. The aftertaste lingers, with--could it be?--some soft tastes of mildy tart fruit.

The medium body works well with this beer, helpig to make the brew very drinkable yet substantial.

The only time you'll weep is when you realize your pint is all finished and there's no more left in the 'fridge.

Pours a light brown two finger head that quickly goes to a ring and leaves bits of lace. Hazy amber color. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied. Nose is roasted coffee. Starts sweet/roasted coffee, some caramel, porter like but a decent dunkel. 12oz bottle gift, available from Vintage Cellar Blacksburg, Va.

Weeping Radish Dark lager pours an attractive dark color with ruby highlights. The head is tan and thick. It dissipates slowly to a ring and leaves some moderate lacing. The Dark Lager has a moderate roasted malt smell, more aroma than any of the previous Weeping Radish products I have tried. This beer has a strong, robust taste, primarily roasted malts with maybe a hint of chocolate and caramel. My main complaint with the Amber Lager was a slightly watery taste. No problem with that here. The beer is not heavy like a stout but has a strongly malt taste. I like a more balanced taste or weighted more to hops than malt. That would affect drinkability to me. If you like a medium-bodied beer with a pronounced malt flavor, this would be a good choice

poured a very dark, almost black color with reddich tints. creamy tannish head that fell to long lasting thick ring. Smell is mild with some roasted malt present. Tste is lighter than I expected with some coffee, caramel, roasted malt, chocolate present, almost as someone had diluted a porter with a lager. Finishes refreshing. Good beer.

On tap at the brewpub in Manteo. Clear brown in color with mahogony highlights. Thick 2" tan head. Mild lacing developed through the drink. The aroma had very faint tones of roasted malt, caramel, and prunes. The flavor was of roasted malts, caramel, mildly nutty, with a hint of raisins.

This brew is lighter in body. Crisp mouthfeel at the start and finish. The finish is relatively clean, as a hint of roasted malts linger very briefly. Nice drinkability as this is light and refreshing with decent flavor.

12 oz. bottle, best by Sept. '05 - served chilled in a Weeping Radish pilsner glass. Pours a deep ruby/brown with a 1/2" tan head that leaves some lacing. Smells earthy with chocolate, dark fruits, and a gentle hop background. On the palate there are roasted and chocolate malts, coffee, dark fruits, floral/spicy hops and a nice bitterness that isn't too strong. It is crisp with a medium body and a decent drinkability.

I had this on tap at the brewery.

Arrives in a big German style mug, slightly hazy, (chill haze), brownish/mahogany, with a 2 finger head of beige foam. Head drops after a while to a coating and a ring. Minimal lacing.

Aroma is of bready German pilsner malts and slight DMS. Not unpleasant. Faint spicy Noble type hops and faint chocolate there as well. I was kind of expecting more.

Flavor is clean dark brown sugar, smooth sweetness, and spicy hops. Appropriate bitterness for style. Aftertaste is short chocolate malts. A little thin in character. Style guidelines say rich and complex; this is neither

Mouthfeel is slight sweetness, slight tingle from carbonation, feels thin. Not much in the way of a finish.

I've had better dunkels, but not too many. If you like "training wheel" type dark beers, this would be a good one, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

Pours a deep brown color that reveals an almost rubyish hue when held to the light. Ok carbonation. Low aroma-some roasted malt. Very slight coffeish aroma. Malty flavor upfront-some roasted bitterness. Lingering caramel sweetness in the backround. Good mouthfeel-maybe just a tad thin for my liking. While not a real stand out beer it is actually quite drinkable. My advice is to try it in the liter bottles that are unfiltered and unpasteurized. Its a bit better.

Thaks to ninjaworm for this one. It pours a dark brown with ruby hues. No real head to speak of. The nose is slightly nutty and roasted, but not as deep as I would like. the flavor is not what I expected. A slightly roasted and nutty character prevails. The finish is a bit offputting. The feel is moderate wth a moderate carbonation. I really am not a big fan of this one. Its not something I would get again.

Label Lore: Oktoberfest clocktower motif. With Best before Jan 05 notch

Dark clear mahagony with a dark khaki thin head cap that quickly becomes a tan collar in the glass.

Bold grain scents and chocolate cake hints.

First Swigs: Cocoa and malts. Some maple syrup and pancake maltiness. Dry pancake medium lingering aftertaste. Licorice and leafy notes.

Medium buttery body with little carbonation. Leaves some sugary residue on me tongue. An odd style to be drinkable, period, but being that this is a cool Autumn night helps.

Last Swigs: Almost like a Porter cocoa and sugary rootbeer. Thanks to Shapudding for the bottle from the brewery. Contract brewed by Clipper City as per the label and NeroFiddled. This could use a bit more carbonation to be better.

Picked this up in North Carolina, but not during the brewery tour. Dark, rootbeer/chocolate colored and clear. Nice thick khaki head reduced down quickly a thick ring in the edges and a good swirling. Alot of sassafrass in the scent, caramelly sweet. Almost a medium body to it, very smooth mouthfeel, with just enough carbination. Tastes of roasted malts and dark toast, bit of hops in there. Easy drinker, not too heavy or too much flavor shooting out at you.
