This place has definitely changed since it was last reviewed.
I have been here a couple times now since then.
Once a little while back, and once just recently.
.
The food has been pretty good to very good both times, with my wife and I both being very pleased with both our meals and appetizers, and the beer selection has been quite vast both times.
We had BBPT5 the time before last, as well as an awesome Coconut Porter from Paw Paw brewery.
The most recent visit they had Founders Dirty Bastard, Dark Horse Amber Ale, Shorts Soft Parade, New Belgium Pumpkick, Schmohz Kiss my Scottish Arse Ale,[ which was incredible] to name a few.
I do believe they have the taplist on their Facebook page, but I won't swear to it.

40 taps, with 38 being craft the last time we visited, and the flights are 4 four ounce pours for 4$.
They also now have takeout for all 250+ bottles at near bottle shop prices.

This is definitely one of our favorites for a laid back meal, and some great craft sampling.
We will also be looking into some of the imports they carry the next time we are looking to try something new.

Cheers!

Stopped by for a beer after visiting the new brewery in pawpaw.
Quite large inside with seating for hundreds of people. They have an area with video games. Only 6 taps with bad beer but, they have a bottle list with close to 260 beers from around the globe. Nothing to exotic but decent. The food menu is quie extensive with above average selection for a beer bar. I had the bluegil which was good. This place is only about 4 miles off the main highway(94) and is a nice place to stop if your hungry.

Good old Big T. This place certainly brings back memories, but its funny how the times change.

My wife and I started going to Big T around 14-15 years ago, when good beer bars, even ones with only bottles, were very rare in the midwest, outside of the big cities. Their 250+ bottles were something not found in my hometown of Ft Wayne,IN at the time. So we would drive up about once a month, get a room at the Lakeside Inn in Paw Paw, and hit Big T. I had my first Orval, among many other imports, there.

Anyway, we still stop in about once a year for old times sake, including a few days ago. Nothing has changed, but the beer list certainly seems much less interesting. The waitresses still know nothing about the beers, and everything is served with a pint glass. But the service is decent, the food is alright, and the Orval still tastes fantastic, even out of a pint glass.

Big T is no longer a destination place for us, but still serves a purpose. The locals seem to love the place as much as ever, and I will continue to have an Orval and a lunch there once a year or so. Memories.

The wife and I visited Lawton on saturday and went to Big T's after a initial stop for dinner and beer at Old Hat. Big T's, in contrast to Old Hat, was packed with people eating dinner...absolutely packed. We were seated in a booth and perused the enormous beer list. That's the reason to go here, by the way....for Tommy Tetuski's drinking challenge. According to the story, Tommy stopped by the Big T one night long ago and regaled the clientele with stories of his days of drinking prowess. After drinking a ton at the bar, he disappeared into the night leaving his notebook filled with notes on all the beers he'd had throughout his travels. And so now, in honor of Tommy, Big T's offers the following challenge: drink 130 of Their 250 or so beers (no set time period) and your name goes up on the wall, plus you get a shirt and a mug and all sorts of good stuff. Our friend Paul's dad has accomplished this (see review below).

Ok, now back to our experience. We ordered just a single beer each from the many available and also ate some cheese covered spinach dip (tasty and cheap!) The beer list though is quite nice. It seems to be geared at covering as many countries as possible, which means there aren't as many quality american brews as their could be. However, what they do have is nice, including Dead Guy, Chimay, Delerium Tremens and Nocturnum, Thomas Hardy, Celis, Kindl Weiss, lots of Bells and Arcadia, many, many others too numerous to name. Really amazing that this place exists where it does...and more amazing is that the owner has another palce in Dowagiac (about a half hour southwest) called Zeke's. Check either of them out if you're in the area.

Stopped by here with my Dad, who is on the "wall of foam" as one of the people that's completed the "Tommy Tetuski Memorial Beer Drinking Club." I signed up for $1 (why not?)
This place is right on the main road through Lawton, a couple miles south of I-94. It's a huge place, taking up three store fronts. The bulk of it is bright aqua-blue on the outside. There's some parking in back and some street parking as well.
We rolled in for lunch a little after 1pm, and it was pretty busy with locals and hunters. The inside is big but cozy, with a few distinct sections including the bar and dining areas. Lots of light-colored wood, lattice work, and random crap on the walls. You have to request the beer menu. 254 bottles are listed - nothing earth shattering, but quite a few quality choices, and a few really random ones from various countries (Lebanese beer, etc). Mine came with a freezing frosted pint glass, so I imagine that's how they all come. This place seems to use the huge beer menu as kind of a gimmick, but as far as gimmicks go, this is a good one. Just don't expect proper glassware, or for your waiter/bartender to know anything about the beers (just order by number!).
Service was still good despite the lack of beer knowledge, and our lunch was cheap and decent. Two beers, two sandwiches with fries and some chips and salsa for an appetizer clocked in at $20. Not bad at all. I think dinner is a bit more expensive.
If you're driving by on I-94, it's not too far out of the way, so you might as well stop in and hit this place and Old Hat across the street.

I'd never heard of this place before. A friend of mine suggested going on our journey back to Detroit from Chicago. As he isn't that into beer I thought he was exagerrating when he said they had lots of different beer there. Turns out he was right, over 250 bottles, but only 5 taps, only one of which was worth drinking (Oberon). This is place is situated on the main drag in the blink town of Lawton, right across the street from the Old Hat brewery. From the street it looks like many upper scale bar & grill type place, bright and interesting looking. The inside has a lot of wood and various old timey nick nacks. behind the square bar were a numver of coolers lines with their various bottled selections. Unfortantely they serve everything in frosted oversized pint glasses and the bartender couldn't tell you difference between an ale and a lager, so you've gotta order by number. I tried ordering my Weihenstephan dunkel in correct pronunciation and she just sort of cut me off and asked which number (each brew is numbered on the menu) to which my friend laughed loudly (more at me for being a know-it-all) but I think the bartender thought he was laughing at her. Later he commented how cut and dry she was with us... gee, I wonder why! Anyhow, the food was well made and quickly served but was nothing out of this world.

Not a bad stop between Chicago and Detroit, not at all.

Slàinte!

A hidden gem in SW Lower Michigan. Located about 6 miles south of 94, and about 20 miles or so west of Kalamazoo in the sleepy little town of Lawton.

Basic big restaurant/bar. Square bar, big bay of coolers along the back wall. I have always sat at the bar. A few TV's along the bar to keep your interest during football. This appears to be the main restaurant in the town, so it appears to try to be all thing to all people. However, one of the things it is is perhaps the best beer bar in West Michigan.

There are 250 different beers offered. The only downside is that they are all in bottles. There are also 4-5 taps, but they hold the usual BMC. I've never had an off beer there. Most of the beers are imports, but there are a few US microbrews listed. My only suggestion is that it would be nice if they had proper glassware for some of the belgian style beers. All beers seem to be served in a pint glass of somesort.

Service is always friendly and rather quick. Food is inexpensive, and quite good, though not fancy.
