750 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours hazy nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy Light khaki head with good retention, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, raisin, cherry, herbal, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roast malts and bourbon barrel notes; with solid strength. Some mild funk/tart fruit, but not overwhelming. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, raisin, cherry, herbal, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal/roast bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, nuttiness, milk chocolate, cocoa, light dark fruit/herbal, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roast malts and bourbon barrel flavors; with a nice bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly drying from carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and slightly chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is nice. Mildly warming 9%, with zero barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very good BBA imperial brown ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roast malts and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV. A bit of some infections hints, but they didn't take over the beer; aside from the higher carbonation. All minor flaws aside, this was still really enjoyable. Very rich malt complexity, with great barrel presence/integration. Never boozy, tannic, or drying. A very enjoyable offering.

Bought about two weeks ago. Popped the cork and cage bottle that was stored in cellar. Very loud pop. As soon as I opened it became a gushing volcano of brown foam. The smell was rather tasty and after being brace enough to put some in my snifter, it was a clearly tart taste followed by a drain pour. Would appear to be an infected bottle.

A - Pours a very deep dark brown color with a generously thick toffee colored creamy head...decadent looking.
S - Roasted malt, bourbon, oak, vanilla.
T - Bourbon forward, oak/woody, vanilla, the roasted caramel malt starts to emerge at the end and becomes a little more pronounced as the beer warms, there's also a touch of citrus that surfaces at the very end.
M - Full bodied, thick, velvety body.
O - This tastes nothing like a brown ale, nice complexity and what's really surprising and mind blowing is that at 13%, the alcohol presence is detectable, however, the warming/burn is not.

On tap at Houghs
Appearance: Appears to be black with a thin tan head
Smell: Dark fruits, vanilla, caramel, roasted malts
Taste: Dark fruits upfront and a roasted malt finish. Vanilla and caramel can be picked up as well
Mouthfeel: Full body; Goes down easy considering the abv. Moderately bitter finish
Overall: To me this one is fairly simple and not too complex, yet it is tasty. If you enjoy dark fruits and roasted malts, this would be a good choice if you see it. Kind of reminded me of a porter. Cheers!
