Poured out of a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

A--yellow brown and somewhat cloudy

S--spicy, somewhat bubblegum

T--mushroom like, off, tannic

M--light to medium mouthfeel

D--This just tasted way off. Doesn't really resemble an APA at all. This may just simply be a bad batch but I don't get a sense that the base is close to the style it says it is.

Appearance - pours a cloudy, murky and dull orange. A few fingers of stiff foam, decent lace. Lots of bead action in the glass.

Aroma - initially, not much at all. Powdery grain maybe. Some light floral citrus, very distant. As it sets up I pick up the rumblings of possible infection with a vague, acrid and sour scent.

Taste - some light biscuity grain, a brief glint of citrus, then yes, the definite flavor of contamination. Whassap with Arcadia? Not the worst level of infection but enough to make me cut this sampling short.

Mouthfeel - medium weight, uber-crisp (typical for an infected brew), a decent smooth feel.

Drinkability - I'm certainly disappointed as I can taste a decent beer hiding in there somewhere. Per the notch, best purchased before February. Hmm, it's still September, I did *my* part!

A - Medium orange and slightly cloudy with a billowing four finger head. Head retention is amazing, and lots of really nice lace is stuck in huge clumps all over the glass.

S - Funky fruit notes.... peach, apricot, and a slightly sour mustiness behind all that.

T - Eww. This is not good. Sour rotten fruit and chemical notes make this almost a drain pour. Almost.

M - Light bodied, sour, and dry.

D - No thank you! Hopefully this was a bad bottle, but it doesn't really have that noticeable skunked aroma and flavor. Not good.

This is the foamiest beer I've ever opened! It didn't surge out of the bottle when I opened it, but the gentlest of pours down the side of a pint glass gave me nothing but a glass of foam and about 3mm worth of beer at the bottom. When things finally settled down I took a wiff and got some very mild hoppiness and some non-hop-generated citrus. Flavor is malty, watery, and unpleasant. Mouthfeel is watery. I can't say I recommend this at all.

Hmmm i have to say that most of the beers that i have tasted from acradia seemed very sweet to me and this one is no exception.

Appearance: Poured from a 12 oz into a glass, no head at all light amber color to it.

Smell: has a sweet smell to it.

Taste: just like i said before has a very sweet sugar taste to it, and like others have said maybe a plastic taste followed by dry mouth after taste.

Mouthfeel: has a light carbonation to it that you feel on your tongue has a cant get it out of my mouth feeling to it.

Drinkability: i would say that this is an easy to drink beer because it is light on alcohol flavor.

Overall: not impressed with any of the beer that came in the mixed twelve pack of arcadia that i purchased. it all kinda had the same taste to me like there was not enough yeast in it to ferment all the sugars?

Best by Aug. notched on label:

This was a gusher - poured foam that pretty quickly settled revealing an amber body.

The smell is fruity - pears and apple with a caramelish background.

The taste is of pear and sour apple with a light sweet caramelish/grainy maltiness. Slight metallic notes mix in. Cracker-like and yeasty. This is a mess. Bitter notes don't blend so well with the maltiness.

The feel is the lamest part of this brew. Watery and fizzy.

Odd, non-complementary tastes with a ridiculously fizzy/over-carbonated feel. Not good.

Very cloudy dark tangerine is loaded with sediment. Big, gushy, cobweb cumulus head of light beige. Nice head, but the sediment worries me a little. Pine needles are big on the nose along with faint sugar cookie malt. Tart, citrusy hop flavors up front. Acidic and lemony. Mild biscuit and sugar cookie malt, but mostly covered up by the metallic citrus. Gushy, overcarbonated mouthfeel. Not very good.

Another explosive Arcadia beer, what is with that?
Head is absolutely massive, about 3" atop about 1" of beer. The head is a light tan color, the body is a hazy copper color, with lots of visible carbonation bubbles. Taste is bitter, like an ipa should be, but doesn't have the bouquet (floral, pine, or citrus) of many a PA. Is this an infected bottle? It seems like Arcadia would be a big enough brewer to have better quality control, but this beer seems lackluster all around. Not great in any category, Arcadia is very hit and miss (Hit: Porter, Scotch Ale. Miss: Pale Ale, ESB).

Not a good batch. This ale gushed from the bottle, overflowing my pint glass. Once things settled down, a cloudy copper colored brew remained. The aroma was sweet and malty wiith sour citrus overtones. The taste matched the aroma. It was a moldy sweet taste with sour, flowery somewhat bitter background.

A best-by date bar was on each bottle, but nothing was notched. This is really getting tiresome. I don't know how many micros I have purchased that were oxidized or stale because of thier age. This one was probably infected, yet it was on the shelves selling for almost 10 bucks/six pack. This is becoming a real problem for micros. Either they intentionally ship defective products, or they refuse to give the consumer a freshness date.

Pours a highly carbonated clear copper color with a huge off white head. The aroma is lightly sweet malt, light floral, fruit and paper. The flavor is masked by paper although minimal amounts of fruit, floral and malt manage to make there way through. Medium bodied, oily texture. Finishes very metallic.

An average looking beer, coppery with a short head that settles to a heavy film and gives up spotty lace.

After that this beer gets a little odd. Some off aromas and tastes, slightly funky or vegetal. Bitter metallic finish over top of some sweetness and a noticeable hit of rough edged alcohol. Something not quite right here and its off-putting.

Overall, not enjoyable verging on slightly unpleasant and not as good as other pale ales I've had. Poorest of the lot from the brewery sampler.

This is not an impressive brew, the body is thick and medium dark for an amber. The head is white and minor with short duration.
Carbonation is heavy.
Very quick bitterness attack but shortlived...no retaliation from the other side.
Nose is there but a nondescript sweetness, is that the retaliation?
Not crisp.

A - Pours a warm golden color with a finger's worth of fizzy head that dissipates to a thin film after about a minute, leaving some lacing.

S - Not a whole lot of hops going on, but it is a little citrusy, but what I'm picking up is mostly funky sour. Not much aroma to speak of, even.

T - There's that weird, unpleasant sour... but now it's in my mouth! Faint hops in the back, but it's such a weird, funky flavor. Almost reminds me of Magic Hat #9, which I cannot stand. Maybe it's past expiration?

M - Prickly carbonation, it's a very excited beer for being a pale ale.

O - Since this is from a brewery that has put out some other decent beers, I'm inclined to give them the BOTD and say it might have been past expiration or somesuch, but I probably won't ever get this one again.

Live review. Poured from the 12 oz. bottle that I bought at the new SAVE-ON Tobacco & Beverage in Mentor, Ohio for $1.30. Very reasonable price as the broken up 6 pack was simply the price of the 6 pack divided by 6. Very BA friendly as far as an effort to try a lot of different beers. I picked this one up as I have just visited Arcadia in Battle Creek but they did not have this one on tap. Poured into my Samuel Smith pint glass. . Both "Aug" and "Sep" are punched on the right side of the label. Message above that says "Best when purchased before the month notched." Label also mentions that this is a "Pale Ale brewed in the British Tradition."

A Rather basic light brown/orange translucent body with brief (30 seconds) but bubbly very light brown head. Reasonable lacing on my glass as I sip though. 3.0

S Distant smell of barley, little to no hops and very little malt. 2.0

T Barley is primary. As suggested by the smell, very little malt or hops tasted by me. This may be a Pale Ale but you should not expect the hop levels that we Americans have become accustomed to from most of our Pale Ales. Even Sierra Nevada Pale Ale has a significantly higher hop presence (and malt presence now that I think of it) than this beer. 2.0

M Thin but this is appropriate to the style. 3.0

D Good but I will not buy this again. 4.0

Notes: Probably a great beer for the 'ol fishing trip or a weekend with the guys (as long as it is very cold!). The thing is, there are many other (cheaper) options that would fit the purpose that this beer serves.

Pours an amber golden color, with a slight white head and no lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, some mild hops, and something I can't place but seems off. Taste consists of a slight hop flavor, with a plastic taste as well. Mouthfeel is pretty light and watery.

Arcadia’ Angler’s Ale: Hmmm.. .. I’ve been disappointed with this mixed twelve pack, the tastes are fairly faithful to their styles, but the flavor is very middle of the road. This style has a fairly under whelming hop, a little malt and a whole lot of nothing. I’ll pass it by next time.

Got this brew from Vancer.

Pours a cloudy dark yellowish color, nice carbonation, huge head, lots of sticking lacing afterwards. The nose is malty, slightly hoppy, yeasty, and some caramel. The taste is malty, a little bit hoppy, yeasty, with some caramel. This does not remind me of a APA at all really, Medium body. Drinkable, this brewery is disappointing me at this time, definitely not recommended.

Poured from a 12oz bottle...

Appearance: Strong head; vivid copper translucent; head retains fairly well. Leaves scattered streams of lace along the glass after each sip.

Smell: Detrimentally low start to this review as the aromas come in far too weak. A lemony yeast element pushes forth stronger than the faint hop and malt aromas that can barely be discerned.

Taste: Yet again, weak. Light malt flavoring comes through presenting the faint elements of hop bitterness that lack the ability to be noticed. Bland to a lemony citrus finish.

Mouthfeel: Plenty of light, fluffy carbonation. Light to medium body overall.

Overall: Bland - but an extremely easy drink.

Sampled at brewery from a sampler.
A = Clear light amber.
S = A slight bitter hop aroma.
T = A bitter taste I was not expecting from this ale.
M = Light but a bitter finish.
D = Not what I was expwcting. An ale that tasted like the others in the sampler with a hop differance.

A- poured a slight transparent dark amber color with a nice frothy white head. nice lacing.

S- just some caramel malt with some grassy weak hops. not bad but not great.

T- same as smell.

M- light bodied. too much carbonation!!

D- had this in a mixed pack ages ago and now got one in a mixed pack for x-mas. i will never buy this beer!

Overall- this beer sucks! and go figure it's from arcadia... HAHA! once this brew hits your tongue it's like pop rocks. soooo
much carbonation. this beer is just weak. the hops suck and the only thing holding it together is the caramel malt. this shouldn't be a pale ale but just a plain ale.

Pours a crazy foamy mess head is huge the whole glass but falls to normal size soon. Color is a hazy amber color with lots of bubbles rising to a big head. Appearance is good after all settles but too much exploding carbonation glad I started with a light pour.

Aroma is light malt some musty wet hops, nothing special but may be hard to sniffer through a giant head.

Taste is some bitter dirty hop flavors on a bland lightly toasted malty base. Flavor is earthy musty also, some lingering bitterness with grassy dirt mixed in. Not sure if I am not in the mood for this or what but not finding it good.

Mouthfeel is light medium good carbonation lightly peppy must of expended all the CO2 sporting that huge head.

Drinkability is not impressive, thanks go to merlin48 for this sample.

12oz bottle.

***I would classify this one as a gusher. As soon as I popped it open, it proceeded to try and cover my entire desk in a volcanic flow of carbonated Angler's Ale. Lucky I was fast and was able to catch most of it in my glass as I ran to the bathroom, in the process stepping on my dog (at least he was compensated by being allowed to lick up everything from the bathroom floor).***

Now to the beer. Poured a medium and see through orange color with a huge, huge off white head. Aromas of floral, light caramel and nuts. Also had a little bit of a perfume or soapiness to it. Tastes of caramel, floral and toasted malts. Not too crazy about the whole experience with this one.

Part of and Arcadia sampler: Not a very good translation of the style. Pours a clear amber color with a medium off-white head that disappeared quickly. Thin and quick lacing. Aroma was malty and slightly pungent. Flavor is mostly malty with a hops presence and kind of sour aftertaste. This was too mild to be a great EPA in my opinion.

Starts with a huge head where 80%+ of the glass is foam--too much. It settles SLOWLY with a tight-bubbled dome. Leaves surprisingly little lace. The brew itself is darker gold with some definitive haze.

Darker caramel and light, floral hop are the smells I first detect. Slightly sweet with a touch of raw grain.

Strong yeast bite that I associate with a homebrew. It tastes "thin" although the body is moderate. The flavor picks up (mildly) when swallowed where the hop shows up. It's rather nondescript.

Originally reviewed August 10, 2005. 12 Oz Bottle. Nice copper hued color. Dry citrus hoppy aroma. Bland hop and malt flavors. Dry hop palate. Not real interesting, pretty boring. A certain metallic malt edge makes this one particularly unexciting, along with some lack of carbonation and an edge of oxidation.
