Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. III Issue I:
Stunning tower of off-white froth drops slowly with a massive amount of lacing sticking to the glass. Brassy amber color shows off its clarity. Thick blanket of hop in the nose; spearmint, ruby red grapefruit, wildflowers and faint tobacco. Creamy and slick medium body is a bit chewy from the malt. Bitterness from the hops kicks in right away, but is reeled back before it hits the point of no return--meaning it stays balanced. Quick breath of alcohol in the middle. The toasted bread maltiness hangs with the faint buttery tone both try to push the hops down, but the bitterness and hop flavor come right back up with each sip. A tad fruity with suggestions of apricots. Finishes semidry with a thick herbal tone and some remaining toasted malt.
Great to see a Double IPA that is not either absolute chaos or simply overbittered. Certainly one of the most balanced in its style and a delight to drink.
