Pours a surprisingly dark copper amber with a light tan head. The head fades quickly, but leaves nice lacing. The aroma is primarily of piney, citrusy and grassy hops, with a fairly pronounced whiff of alcohol. There is also a very rich and toasty caramel malt aroma. The flavor is quite balanced with both piney and grapefruit hops being nicely offset by a toffee tasting malt backbone. It also seems to have some earthy notes, and a hop bitterness that stands up well to the malt. Far from the more hop forward DIPAs I prefer, but they appear to have paid close attention to the quality of malt flavor, so I will not complain too much. The mouthfeel is medium and has a nice smoothness to it. Unfortunately, the finish is sticky and unappealing with a somewhat unpleasant aftertaste that lingers in my mouth after swallowing. This is a pretty solid beer, but the finish is a bit of a deal breaker when it comes to drinkability.
