12 oz bottle poured into Spiegelau glass no bottle date

A: deep amber caramel in color filmy soapy head that settles to a ring a little hazy body

S: you get a lot of resin, pine, and floral, and a huge helping of maltiness

T: wow lots of alcohol up front and that malty resiny taste with a like sweet finish and very floral on the end

M: very soft carbonation medium bodied a little oily

O: its ok nothing special. It has an odd finish on it that is the thing that stands put most about this beer. it has a lot of that floral finish on it reminds me of copper for some reason.

A very dark, brownish copper with a big pillowing white head.

Smells like musty, resinous pine with a hint of citrus.

Tastes like pine, herbal tea, lemon, caramel malt, and some orange. Fairly malty, but very resinous with a solid bitter aftertaste.

Body is sticky and a bit syrupy.

There is something odd about this one, but it is pretty solid.

I don't know....I'm thinking I have a funky bottle of Hop Mouth.....Its not very good and not something I'd expect from Arcadia. The beer poured a deep amber with white head that is leaving a lace. The scent has bitter hop. The taste is very syrupy sweet and just plain weird. The mouthfeel is fuller in body with subtle carbonation. Overall....no thanks....I might try it off the tap....but no more from the bottle for me.

Look: Great rusty reddish-brown color.

Smell: Stuffy attic. It just smells old somehow.

Taste: Tasty bitterness, but also sweet, caramel maltiness that you just can't ignore. Truly a bittersweet beer, but in a good way.

Feel: Has a bit of a sticky resin quality to it. Helps the taste linger.

Overall: Yes, please. But at 8% ABV, pace yourself.

i was very meh on this one, but always with high hopes for arcadia, it was a let down. not sure how fresh it was, purchased in ohio before christmas with no visible bottle date. its an amber colored ipa, with a short lived but erupting white head. deep red color for an ipa, some haze. good nose, simcoe maybe up front, or something similar, i get the woodiness of centennial too, but with quite a bit of oxidation and malt sweetness. not all that awesome. the flavor is surprising, because its not at all like the aroma. more citrus, a lot more, both bitter and acidic, and a whole lot less malt sweetness and body than expected from the nose. its crazy really how different the two are. orange and lemon from the hops cut the malt completely, but there is some oxidation and it tastes a little stale to me. mediocre really for the style, although i can imagine it being a lot better fresh on tap. i feel like every time i have beer from these guys it has the same issues. not sure why that is, but i would love to taste all their stuff fresh. potential here but i didnt much care for it.

The beer comes in a deep darker amber color.

The beer hits of pine, sticky resin, hints of sweet citrus, loads of sweet breadiness, onto a longing drying earthy bitterness. The beer even tastes "old" with only two and a half months on it. (Bottled 10/24/15).

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a great looking clear reddish amber with a white head. The aroma if full of citrus, hops and grass. The taste is full on citrus with some hops. Overall, a great DIPA.

Purchased at a Meijer store in Livonia MI $3.00 for a 12oz bottle. Served at 6deg C in a clear plastic cup in my hotel room.

A- Opens well and pours a 1" high white head that is gone within the minute. Dark gold color and unfiltered.

S- Lots of hops and malt here.

T- Hops galore. A bit bitter due to all the "C" hops present. A very sweet brew. Lots of malt. Almost a malt and hop bomb. Definitely a DIPA

M- Sticky. Super bitter on the tongue.

O- Nice brew. Strong hop presence to the point that it is overbearing. Still a very good brew and it has balance but be prepared for a good flavor explosion!

Food Pairing

This nice little brew went well with........ McD's at 3am after the bar. Found a BM to be in order LOL

Enjoy

Don't know how old my bottle was but this had something tangy and nasty in it. Always wary of Arcadia because they do't put a date on the bottle. Drainpour.

A: cloudy; amber with red tinges at the edges; 1 finger khaki head that receded to a thin collar; OK lacing;;

S: complex; floral is most dominant, with tropical fruit, earthiness, pine, and caramel also present;

T: follows the nose, with a slight tartness coming in mid-palate that stays through the finish; moderately bitter at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: the tartness doesn't fit the style; otherwise, this was very good;

A - Pours a dark ruby red with a one-finger off-white head. There is a decent amount of spotty lacing.

S - Aroma is caramel malts and sweet citrus (orange, mango, & pineapple).

T - The flavor is sweet caramel malts, orange, mango, pineapple, and brown sugar upfront. The finish has piney hops and grapefruit.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Finish is dry and crisp.

O - This is a nice DIPA. The flavor is malt forward with a nice blend of piney hops and sweet citrus. Defiently worth checking out.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/29/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red/copper color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, floral, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, floral, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/citrus peel bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange zest, caramel, toffee, toast, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and fairly crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent malty DIPA style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

No idea how old this bottle is. You'd think a brewery as old as Arcadia would invest in a bottle dater. It was kept in a cooler though so that is a plus.

Poured into a Sam Adams glass.

A- Quite a bit of chill haze but cleared up nicely to reveal a deep amber, two finger white head.

S- Smells like an old ipa to me, not very bright hops. most floral with some earthy spice, little bit of grapefruit and orange, pretty caramel malty aroma as well.

T- Tastes kinda old too, medium bitterness, grapefruit, floral, caramel malts.

M- Medium typical lower ABV DIPA territory.

O- Like pretty much all of Arcadia's stuff it this is disappointing. Nothing distinguishing in the hop profile, pretty much your typical Sierra Nevada hop profile. Will have this on tap sometime to see if it's better though.

A: medium amber body beneath, depending on the pour, one to a few fingers of tightly packed foam

S: intense resinous pine and dank citric aromas; something earthy, hearty, and sweet beneath

T: toasted and honeyed malts, caramel sugars and brown grain malt; the dankness of pine and citrus aromas come through on the palate; herbal and floral highlights

M: medium-bodied, moderately carbonated, mellow bitterness, slight chew

O: a well-done DIPA leaning toward the IPA end. Fans of IPA-type beers take note.

Got this when I was building my own six pack and wanted to round out my pack with another DIPA. Also, the label design has changed.

A - Deep orange color. Hazy from the dry hops with a bountiful white head and light lacing.

S - Pleasantly strong hop fragrance with citrus fruit, pine, and some dankness. Some slight alcohol and a very light malt/graininess.

T - Great flavor with the strong citrus hop character. The alcohol and strong hop bitterness are also present but not in contention with the NW hops. There are also light malt and caramel character in the middle but is mostly covered by the hop bitterness.

M - Medium mouth-feel with moderate carbonation. Not too heavy for a DIPA but not as light as a regular IPA.

Overall, a solid DIPA. I wasn't disappointed by grabbing this one and I would try it again. Not all the way at the top but I really enjoy the hop flavors that are present in this brew. This beer is solid if you like Imperial IPAs.

12oz bottle poured into traditional pint

Pours a hazy rust color with a thin, delicate, cream colored collar of foam.

Mild herbal, citrus-fruit nose.

This is where it got me. It was maltier than, and not as hop-forward, as expected. A bit of honey with all the citrus characteristic that I had smelled earlier, but the malt had mellowed this into an easy drinker.

It felt smooth on the tongue with the slight bubbly finish(surprising due to the lack of initial head)

Not just "good for what it is", it's just plain good.

This is one of my favorite IPA's. I am so glad it is available year round. It pours a beautiful orange-amber color with a light head, it is just great to look at. Nice lacing, you can count how many sips you have taken from the rings.

The smell is a sweet malty hoppy mix with a slightly citrus and spice nose. It tastes just like it smells too, it is on the maltier side for an IPA. It is not very bitter at all, some sweetness of malts with a lightly hopped finish. It is still an IPA, but a smooth, sweet one. I think it is more of an east coast/British style Ale.

You cannot tell it is a big beer by the flavor, but you will start noticing as the glass gets under half. It is definitely not a session IPA by any means. If you like your IPA on the malty side, you came to the right place. It is a nearly perfect mix of bitter and sweet.

Pours a dark ruby brown with a finger of creamy off white head. Smells nice - piney, resin, citrus. Drinks easy for the high abc - nice hop profile nicely balanced with some malts int he back end. This is a really solid DIPA that I will definitely be trying again. Note - want to try this with a more recent production date as the brew I tried had a born on date of October and I'm reviewing this in March. I Have to think that compromised the IPA a bit and It drank really well anyway.

Pours a huge, dense, off-white head that has a lot of persistence. Citrus-pine aroma; not bright and floral, but rich and robust. Amber-sienna color. Starts bitter with a citrus backing. Moves into a bright green hoppiness, with the sweet malt combining to make a slightly sweet presence. Peaks in a medium-high bitterness. In the finish, it's citrusy hops with the malt starting to come through, again.

Not bad at all. I generally am a floral/aromatic hop guy, but this is still very enjoyable for me.

Arcadia HopMouth is a fairly deep and somewhat mysterious looking beer; dark in tone it is only minimally illuminated when held against the light, displaying a clear complexion yet not total transparency (something is preventing me from making out my finger on the other side). Foam exists only in the shape of a ring along the perimeter. None sticks to the glass.

Arcadia's British-leanings are apparent from the aroma; this is not a double IPA for those looking to cut their gums on citric hoppiness. It actually smells (and drinks) more like a cognac or something along those lines; it has a rich maltiness that begets fruity esters resembling fig and dates. Hop addicts have only a resiny pine flavour to cling on to.

The taste features a sticky toffee pudding-like flavour and hints of gooey caramel sauce, butterscotch pudding and dried fruits. There's just enough orange-y citrus, however, to lighten things up so as to avoid any overly sweet or resinous notes from lingering. There's just a trace of tropical character but it suffices (especially as the pine serum notes sink in).

HopMouth is far from a big beer at only 8% alcohol, and accordingly has a (relatively) appropriately easy drinkability, but also a good amount of richness. It doesn't coat the inside of your mouth or anything (differentiating it from a barleywine) but it provides a good degree of satiation for a 12 ounce bottle... assuming you weren't jonesing for the hops.

Arcadia HopMouth is enjoyable to drink but, truthfully, a bit disappointing as a double IPA. Whereas the brewery's revision - as opposed to reinterpretation - of British style ales works great for their barleywine and porter offerings, the more malt-forward conception of this style leaves a thing or two to be desired. I expected a bit more from such a capable brewery.

Appearance- Pours a dark amber with very small off white head that dissipates fairly quickly but does leave some lacing.

Smell- Malts and bitterness, hint of cough syrup. Background of dank hops.

Taste- Weird syrup maltiness with a moderate bitterness and a little grapefruit, very little after taste.

Mouthfeel- Pretty thick for an IPA, good carbonation.

Overall- Taste more like an amber than a DIPA. Not a bad beer but probably wouldn't buy it again.

I like the dark copper color of this IPA but the head was thin, collared quickly and laced sparsely.

Catch some lemon and grass in the scent with stronger malt overtones and some sweetness.

This has a very strong malt body. Arcadia does not put a bottle date on its product, so maybe I'm missing something but it reminds me of a lesser quality DFH 90 minute. Very little hop presence but satisfying malt character characterise is an easy drinking, high ABV IPA.
