A dark amber almost brown transparent color with a toffee white head fizzing down slowly.

Smell is citrus hoppy and sweet.

Taste is superb. A Great hop swell commented beautifully by a malty undertone. The sweet backing is also present for portions of a second.

Feel is sharp and bitter with a larger medium body leding itself to the almost slick nature of it.

A very drinkable beer, but only a few at a time. Not a session for me.

Cheers,
Jordan.

Bomber (thx northyorksammy!) poured into my sammy smith's imperial pint, Arcadia's HopMouth DIPA is a hazy ambered bronze with a small off-white head that leaves scattered, foamy lace. I like the amber color.

Smell is sweeter, caramel malt and citrus hops.

Taste is like it was hoppy, but the malt is taking over. However, the most dominating attribute is the alcohol, which tastes very strong for 8.1%, with some fusels. The malt is a mix of bread with light caramel . The spice taste more like alcohol the hops, which are not really distinct, even though there pretty strong, a muddy mix of pine and citrus. Hops are definitely stronger on the nose.

Mouthfeel is kind of oily, medium bodied.

Drinkability is ok, really not to exciting, would have liked to have tried it fresh, but still good enough.

Drinkability is

This is the first Arcadia beer I have had. Lets see how well they can brew a Double IPA. Here is my review:

A: Pours an extremely dark amber. Head is minimal with almost no lacing.

S/T: The aroma is very weak. Not a lot going on here. I get a touch of malt sweetness and maybe some licorice on the nose. Taste is better than the nose, but not my much. To me, this tastes a lot like a slightly hoppier Amber Ale. I get more malt than hop in this one. Lots of caramel and toasty malts. Hops are earthy and grassy. Alcohol is also quite prominant in the taste. Not a very well blended IPA, but not terrible either.

M/D: Medium bodied. Alcohol burn is present. Overall, not a very harsh or intense IPA. Easy drinking.

This is a disappointing first effort from Arcadia. Nothing here is above or better than average. Probably not one I would buy again as there are so many IPAs out there that put this to shame. Okay, but not great.

Appearance is a dark copper - good head with lacing that last throughtout.

Aroma - Very strong citrusy grapefruit up front. Malty. Hoppy aroma not present.

Taste - Citrus sits right up front more than any other IPA or DIPA I've ever had. Alcohol presence is significant and more than I'd like...

Mouthfeel - Remarkably smooth for a DIPA

Drinkability - Not even close to my top 10 DIPAs. Bitterness with not a lot of hop flavor. Won't get it again..

Pours a cloudy, golden/copper. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of strong hops, slight yeast, and sweet malt. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong hops, slight roasted malt, sweet malt, and yeast. Overall, good blend, body, aroma, and drinkability.

12 oz bottle from an Arcadia mixed pack... first review since moving to Michigan. Has obscure batch code but no date... if you're going to go to the trouble of notching labels, why not put a date on?

Dark and red for the style, opaque, with a creamy head with minute bubbles packs down a bit.

Muted smell, straight pine needle bitterness.

Tastes exactly like the smell... whoa. Maybe because this is from a smaller brewery's mixed pack I thought it wouldn't be a true double IPA, but this is pretty hopped up. Good balance between sweet and dry, but dominated by a metallic, mineral resinous bitterness. Lacking in nuanced hop flavor.

Fuzzy carbonation, a little light bodied, moderately syrupy finish.

Goes down fast. I'd keep drinking these, but reviewing vs. the style, it's tough to give props to a mediocre example when there is so much good competition. Glad to see it brewed and packaged in the mixed packs, though. Small bump for the low price point.

A- Cloudy Bronze red with a thin head

S- Only a little bit Sprucey, no floral or other aromas

T- Unrelentingly bitter, with a little sweetness. Peppery and a little astringent from the alcohol

M- a bit thin but with good carobnation

D- Too bitter and not enough sweetness to make it sessionable. A hop-bomb for sure.

Poured a darker amber with a decent head. Aroma was hoppy but not overly so. Maybe it's my allergies, but sometimes beers advertised as hoppy don't impress me with with a hop aroma.

That said, the flavor was malty with a nice hop finish. No real hint that there is over 8% ABV. The mouthfeel was also pretty good with plenty of effervescence.

A bit heavy for a summer afternoon, but might be one I get for a cool fall evening.

get this bottle in a trade w/ pochman. thanks Ed!

A - deep cherry wood color w/ a thin and quickly shrinking off white crown

S - citrus and piney hops, delcious heavy and syrupy malts and candied fruit. a bit of spice cake/loaf

T - very very bitter w/ a nice malty backbone. i like the candy-like sweetness that the malts deliver to keep the massaive hop onslaught in check. i love it!

MF - massive body, medium carbonation and slick oily feel.

D - tastes like heaven but w/ such a huge body and high abv. i should stop at 1 or 2. this beer is a nightcap for me, and a tastey one at that!

Poured from a 12oz bottle to a pint glass.

Clear golden w/ a solid 1 inch head w/ ample lacing.

Smells of citrus hop and pine needles.

Taste is a smooth mixture of citrus and malt. Has a good clean finish w/ a slight lingering bitterness. As it warms more malt characteristics come out, very enjoyable.

This is a medium bodied double IPA. Slightly high in gravity I would stick to just having a few and then moving on to something of lesser ABV

Picked up a sampler and of course I went for the strong one first.

This beer poured a nice clear chestnut with a nice head and I immediately noticed floral aroma and hops.

The taste is quite nice with hops and a citrus blend which is about a 50/50 blend. The mouth feel is a nice bite with oily and hoppy finish. A very nice IPA. Another fine Michigan craft brewer. I can't wait to try the other 4 beers in this twelve pack.

Pours a three finger cream head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Cloudy amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Grapefruit nose. Flavor is grapefruit hops almost balanced with caramel malts. Higher ABV is totally hidden. $3.00 for a 12oz bottle from Tully's Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Deep copper colour, hazy, one finger beige head, foamy with nice lace. Smells of citrus rind, orange peel, tropical fruit blend. Taste - a real hop and malt delight, great balance, acidity well in synch, malty presence and tart, white grapefruit finish. With air, more malt to the fore. Wispy surface remains with thick ring and sheet lace, alcohol reasonably well hidden. Lively taste and mouthfeel, a really nice blend of malt barley and northwest hops, refreshing. A must have for a hop head, a DIPA I could drink everyday.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a standard pint glass

Dark orange with an off-white head and good lacing
Smell is citrus; taste is more malt than I would expect from a DIPA; hops are cirtus, pine, only a little bitter at the end. Carbonation and mouthfeel also good.

For me, very well-balance and drinkable

Tawny to amber in color, brilliant toffee colored head.

Slight grainy nose to this beer, no real hop standout here though. Nothing powers through. Underwhelming aroma

Taste is warming, slight hints of acetone overshadow the otherwise well balanced mostly bitterness in this beer.

Full bodied and highly viscous mouthfeel. Finishes mostly dry, with a clingy dankness. Astringency at the end.

It's a fairly easy drinking beer. Nothing really stands out with this beer. Most of these IIPA's I have enjoyed have some sort of signature to them. This one doesn't. It's good, but not great. It didn't leave much of an impression on me.

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass.

A: Pours a murky deep orange/copper. Head was huge, but settled quickly. Not a hint of lacing, but I think the cleaning lady puts my beer glasses into the dishwasher. I didn't ding the score for it. As I drink it, it reminds me of my '99 JW Lees Harvest Ales.

S: Very sweet and malty on the nose. If there are hops in this, I can't smell them. No pine, citrus, or floral scent.

T: The only clue this is a DIPA is in the lasting bitterness. No citrus or pine in the taste at all. I'm starting to wonder if I bought an old bottle.

M: Taste lingers in your mouth for quite a while with its medium feel. It's just a tad bit on the heavy side.

D: Pretty low, if only because I don't think I had the DIPA i was hoping for.

I sometimes get bottles that are old and its obvious. This appears to be one of those times. While there appears to be a date code on the side of the label, nothing is stamped or notched to determine freshness. I still submit reviews based on this. I'm willing to give this brew another shot, but it will be a while before I pick up another bottle.

Poured a hazy orange/copper color with a decent cream colored head that actually settled rather quickly.

Surprisingly you get alot of alcohol fumes in the nose with this beer followed by bready/malty aromas with the hops taking the back seat here.

Taste is much of the same. Alcohol is not very well hidden in this beer. That being said, it's not an overpowering alcohol taste, but I've had several other double ipa's with higher alcohol contents with far less alcohol taste. Very english in style as I also found their regular Ipa and Angler Ale to be as well. To me the Pacific NW Hops just aren't bold enough for a Double Ipa.

Mouthfeel is medium with a slight chewiness.

I could probably do 2 of these, but then I'd be reaching for something else.

Morey's Bottom Line: Not a great example of the style in my opinion. Arcadia beer taste like decent homebrewed beer as far as their Ipa's are concerned. I would drink it again, but probably wouldn't purchase with my own money.

I poured it into a pint tumbler, enjoyed the bronze woody color, haziness, and fine, creamy-tan head that left ample lacing. The smell was a floral citrusy combination with piney and earthy tones and the phenolic aspect I associated with English-style hopping.

The taste is musky, sweet, a lot of toasted malt, restrained hops. A gray bitternes hits the mid palate and lingers to a slightly sticky and bitter finish. There's a good sourish tang to it. Mouthfeel is medium- to full-bodied, the alcohol is well concealed.

On the bottle, it reads "Premium English 2-row malted barley, premium Pacific Northwest hops". But then again, its made in Battle Creek, Michigan (home of Kelloggs?), and I gotta wonder what they know about NW hopping... This brew succeeds as a DIPA, but the hops are far too muted for my (hophead) tastes. Drinkability is so-so, because it's tasty but not the taste I want in a DIPA. I won't get it again, but I wouldn't turn it down either. I'd love to sample it fresh on tap.

22oz Bottle. A hazy amber color body with a lasting fluffy offwhite head, streeks of lacing down my tulip galss. Aroma is nice and hoppy, having a good mix of citrus and pine notes with some herbal hints and maybe a little honey.
Flavor is toasty with some sweet caramel malt and a citrus/pine resin hop flavor, a little earthy, very balanced. A nice crisp clean mouthfeel with just the right amount of carbonation. A resiny floral aftertaste, alcohol is well hidden. A very easy drinker, with a flavor and aroma that keep you taking sip after sip.

Nice job Arcadia !

A- 12 oz bottle pours a nice golden color into a pint glass, very full-bodied coloration. million of tiny bubbles rush to an impressive head. The head settles down a bit but sticks around for the whole beer.

S- Strong. A resin-y, hop oil-y octane quality, although in a pleasant way.

T- Very flavorful. Spicy, almost bitter hops taste. Very bold flavor, including the noticeable alcohol. For a double IPA, this is a rock-solid hit on the flavor profile. Well-balanced.

M- Good carbonation. Extremely smooth mouth feel. This goes down quite easy, even at 8.1%. The alcohol isn't hidden but isn't overpowering, either.

D- Fairly high, considering the alcohol content. I could have a couple of these on a long afternoon and be content. Good stuff.

Extra in a trade with AVdeuph. Thanks Alex!

A: Cloudy honey/orange. White head. Nice Lace.

S: Citrus/floral Hops, and some notes of carmel malt sweetnes.

T: Great Balance! Hops hit up front followed by a nice backing. Can't make out any alcohol except for the warming that comes halfway thru the beer.

M: Nothing out of place. Very refreshing for such a "big" beer.

D: Very high. A well done beer that can get you in trouble with that 8+% so well hidden.

Overall: An easy drinkin' double IPA that hides the abv all to well behind a nice balanced taste. Wish they sold this around here, I'd get more for sure!

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a pint glass.

The color is a cloudy orange with a thick off-white head with some really nice lacing.

The smell is surprising, hoppy but in a different way than expected. Some nice hints or floral hops and and some citrus hops but also something a bit different that is hard to describe

The taste is orange flavor at first, some really nice hop bitterness with a great sweet malt feel with some hints of clove and other spices.

The hop feel is not too strong which contributes to the lighter mouthfeel to this beer than expected. Has a nice medium body and is easy drinking for a double IPA.

Dark clear amber edging toward brown. Creamy caramel-tinted head.

Not too much going on in the nose, but it's hoppy... candied pineapple, pine resin.

The taste falls right in line with the nose. So far I'm disappointed. I LOVED this beer last year, but this bottle is just okay. I hope it gets better as it warms. Well, it's pretty bitter, but not too bitter to enjoy the hops flavors. Pine is prominent, with candied pineapple co-starring. I also pick up a tiny bit of caramel. Unfortunately, that's all I can really say. Not great, and doesn't improve much with warming. Light body; slippery mouthfeel. This brew was much better last year. I wonder if they're using different hops?

Darker copper with a slightly redish tint on the pour. Small head, fairly clean and clear.
Initial hit of "butter" in the nose leaves for further investigation....is it diacetyl? NAAA
Domination of hops with hint toffee and unsalted crackers.
Long lingering bitterness.
Seems to be lacking a bit of malt and body for a DIPA.
