Big Dicks Olde Ale.
Served after a 2004 fullers vintage ale, apologies to the brewer for such a pairing.
Sweet fruit with alcohol esters. You can tell fresh the hops were in the nose but now the smell of aged hops is fruity and sweet. Some slight vanilla notes mixed with a slightly darker fruity sweet note.
Pours flat with a dirty copper color. Nice bit of sediment which I always like. Very true to style and as expected. Not the best looking style though.
The hops have left the building at this point. That said not fully smooth yet either. There's a touch of a bite at the front of the tongue but no really bitterness or hop flavor here. I can't explain the malt here well. Caramel malt, but there's something a touch sour or perhaps there's just a kiss of bitterness from the hops still lingering. I think this beer is in a bad place in its age. Another year or two and the hops leave and a really mellow beer comes out, or a few years younger and the hops are show cased. I'm rather interested in seeing this beer age a bit more. With that said this is really freaking good stuff.
I'd put the alcohol here at 7-8% based on the body but there's NO alcohol flavor here. Not much carbonation in the mouth but it's pretty smooth and the body is thinner than some of the vintage type ales. Overall the mouth and the drink-ability are above average.
