Serving Type - Bottle
Appearance - Dark brown/tan, Not much of a head and minimal lacing.
Smell - Chocolate, roasty malts, cocoa, molasses, vanilla. Some milk notes along with some caramel.
Taste - Starts out with a cocoa, some malts and lactose milk. Kind of odd milky flavor along with molasses. Some raisin and a little cherry show up. Not overly chocolate flavored, and has a bite of alcohol warmth at the finish.
Mouthfeel - Malts and lactose milk coat the tongue. Palate gets more malts, some cocoa and sugars, along with some alcohol. Aftertaste is milky and weak malts.
Overall - Boring, weak flavored and lacking chocolate. If it wasn't for the molasses this would be one bland beer. Nothing id want to drink again.

I poured a bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance- Almost black in color with a 1/4 inch of quickly fading, tan head. Minimal amount of lacing.
Smell- Light aroma of chocolate and roasted malt.
Taste- Semi-sweet chocolate and roasted malt flavor with some cocoa and raisin notes.
Mouthfeel- Medium bodied and slightly creamy. Low amount of carbonation.
Overall- There are better stouts to be had than this. While the flavor isn't bad it is rather weak. It needs a little more carbonation also.

Bottled 12/04/13. Poured 3/18/14. $2.69 or something like that for a single bottle. A bit expensive for an Arcadia beer, but I've been craving a lot of stouts recently.
Appearance: A black color with some ruby on the edges. There appears to be a lot of floaters in there as well, but that may be from the Too Cream Stout from Dark Horse that I just had. Not much of a head at all, and only a thin layer of foam on top of the beer.
Smell: Am I the only one disappointed? Truthfully, this smells like a Shock Top attempt at a stout or something. I get a lot of graininess as opposed to roastiness. The minor bit of a cocoa note that I get pushes the rating up just a tick, but really, this is a quite underwhelming smelling beer. I think the molasses that this beer is brewed with is contributing to that grainy smell over the roastiness.
Taste/feel: Like the smell. Man, quite disappointing. It has a cheap grainy flavor to it quite a bit through. With the molasses and grain -- call me crazy -- it has an underlying flavor of caramel popcorn. The molasses sweetness comes off as the kind of sweetness you'd find in a cheap amber, as it tastes artificial and it doesn't exactly add anything positive. Cocoa? I honestly can't say I pick up a specific chocolate flavor. It tastes like a stout loaded with molasses, which again, comes off as artificial tasting. The aftertaste gives a bit of roastiness, but again, it doesn't specifically taste like chocolate to me. The feel is medium/slick with a mild/moderate carbonation.
Not impressed. Would be a recommended buy at $2, but at $2.69, I'd say pass. Rather than compliment, the molasses seems to dominate. Not in that this is an overwhelmingly sweet beer (though it is quite sweet), but in that the flavor of it with the cheap grainy vibe I pick up is just not something worth $2.69 a pop. Cocoa Loco is a pretty good beer, but after having Too Cream Stout, this beer just isn't doing it for me.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served an almost pitch black color with tiny of tan colored head. The heads fades almost instantly leaving only a trace of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is huge of a sweet cocoa and milk chocolate smell. Along with these aromas are some notes of roasted malt as well as notes of cream, vanilla, and caramel mixed within. Overall quite chocolaty and delicious.
Taste – The taste begins of a semi-sweet chocolate and roasted malt flavor mixed with a cocoa powder taste. As the flavor moves forward, more sweet chocolate comes to the tongue with it being joined by vanilla and caramel flavors as well. A milkier like flavor grows in the taste with some hints of darker fruits as well. The darker fruits are mainly of a raisin and plum giving a nice balance to the chocolate flavors of the brew. In the end, with a light earthy flavor also coming to the tongue, and with the big dose of sweet chocolate and the lighter darker fruits flavors of the brew, one is left with a pleasant fruit chocolate bar flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. The lower carbonation is fantastic for the chocolaty flavors of the brew although a bit thicker of a body would have likely been more appropriate for the style. Overall the mouthfeel is rather decent.
Overall – A rather tasty chocolaty brew with some nice big flavors. Sweet and delicious!
