I don't make it up to the NE side of Indy often, so was excited to try out the Beer Sellar this past Friday after a couple of games of laser tag. I was sorely disappointed.
It was bad enough the place smelled like a cigarette (I'm fine with allowing smoking, but it was quite rank and without the beer selection, I would've left just by the smell alone). I can't imagine getting very good beer scents through the smoking haze.
I stood at the front door for a couple of minutes wondering if I should sit down or if I would be seated (no sign). The bartender ignored me and no one else came by so I sat myself.
I sat there for at least ten minutes waiting for someone to come by and take my order, and during that time I did not even get an acknowledgement of my existence. I know the bartender (the only employee I saw except for a cook in the book) noticed me, but didn't say anything or come by my table.
I got a phone call so thought I'd take it outside and sit on the deck, where there should also have been service, but after my ten minute phone call there, I still hadn't been waited on. Since people were smoking around me, I just left.
It's sad that I had a much better experience at the Hooters next to the Sellar. I very much doubt I will ever go back. The beer list looked decent and the menu alright, and the prices weren't bad, but I'll spend my money someplace where i'll get good service.

A: Nice large open space. Nice breweriana displays. Otherwise, this is your average smoking full service bar. Lots of people drinking BMC and shots.
Q: Beer always is fresh. Taps appear to be rotated on a regular basis.
S: Regardless of how busy the bar may be, I have always been served rather quickly. The people behind the bar are hustling for sure.
S: Excellent Bells selection, a few 3F's always on tap, other good beers on tap, decent representation of local beer scene. Decent bottle selection. Have never seen anything on tap that makes my jaw drop though.
F: Have not had anything from the menu.
V: Monday and Wednesday night are $3 select Indiana pints. Everything else is usually $6-$6.5, and not always a 16 oz pint.

I visited this bar for the first time last evening to enjoy the tail end of a Bell's Event. Earlier in the day they had hosted a mini beer festival. The place is your typical bar. They have pool, plenty of tables at different heights even, live music, darts, games, etc. The crowd appeared to be people in their mid 20s to mid 30s. The bar itself is pretty long and takes up half the main area when you first walk in. They do allow smoking too by the way. On this evening they had probably six different Bell's taps, Nitro Left Hand Sawtooth, Founders Cerise and Breakfast Stout, and many others. Pints were only $5 too. The bartenders were very nice and provided timely service. Overall I was kind of impressed. From the outside it appears to be a dive bar but the contents of your glass will impress you. It's worth a stop and for the area, probably has the best beer in Castleton.

I find the beer sellar to be a nice place to get good beer. They usually can get the "special brews". Ex: zombie dust, bcbs. The service is usually right on it. The atmosphere is laid back. Prices aren't bad. Live music could be a bit better, maybe some larger bands rather than solo artists or karaoke, but the solo acoustic guitar artists are usually decent. Lots of sitting room at the bar. Pool tables. They have events and poker night. I dig the place and highly recommend it for craft brew lovers.

I went here for the Bell's 30 tap record thing. It's basically exactly what I expected. We have one across the river from Cincinnati and it's mostly a meat market. There were definitely more craft drinkers on this night but became bullshit later in the night when most of the beer geeks had left. Very loud music. The quality this night was good because of all the Bell's on tap, especially the specialties but looking at their beer list for the normal nights and the bottles, most of it is the normal swill in lower end imports. The selection is pretty damn good with a bunch of taps and a lot of bottles. The service was decent, even though they were completely slammed, but the bartenders seemed overally chatted when flirted with and knew nothing about the beer. Looking at the menu, they're a bit pricey, but not outrageous.

Smoky, dingey. Looks like a typical crappy bar. Decent selection. There's something like 50 taps here of which 20 are solid craft selections. There's probably 20 POS macros on draft, and another 10 imports. The service was alright considering how packed the place was. The pints were pretty inexpensive and the food was inexpensive also, but it sucked. Actually, what I had sucked. I had a pizza. My friends wings tasted pretty good. With all of the good available places in Indy, I wouldn't go back here.

I thought this place was pretty good. The variety on tap is quite lage though it's split between good beers shit beers and middle of the road stuff. But betweeen the tap and the bottle selection there's actually quite a lot to choose from. The food is kind of lower quality and it doesn seem like the microwave is used sometimes when it should just be cooked right in the first place. Decent enough that I use to get a little something with my beer when I went there. Prices are great though. You could get some really cheap pints of some good beer. Service was above average and it depends on who you ask if they know much about the beers they have. Not a place to avoid but you could find a few better in Indy.

This is one place I will not return to or recommend to my friends. The service was so bad I ended up going to the bar to get a beer...the servers seemed oblivious to empty glasses. They had no clue what was on tap, even when we pointed to the table tents and asked for a beer listed there, the response was "do we have that?" They do have a large number of taps, so it might be difficult to keep up with all the offerings. It would seem the staff is very uneducated about beer, which really stinks if a customer doesn't know much about beer and is trying to learn.
The food was not expensive, but not really all that great, either. We ordered cheese fries and got half cooked fries with shredded cheese melted in the microwave on them.

Stopped in on a weeknight and the place was very quiet - only about six other people, yet there was strong cigar odor. I sat at the bar, and, while friendly, the bar worker wasn't in much of a hurry to take my order - she was more interested in the show on TV.
Good selection of beers on tap, but not a lot of locals, which is surprising given the number of very good micros produced in the area. The Bell's Two Hearted Ale was very fresh.
Food selection was basic burger and fried apps. The fried chicken wrap was good, but nothing special. Overall, an average place with a bit better than average tap selection.

A friend and I went here after a concert in Indy this weekend and had a remarkably good time. The tap selection was varied and plentiful, and the bartenders really seemed to know about the selections. The crowd was mostly college kids drinking the cheaper beers and liquor, but it wasn't overly crowded. We had a pizza, which was good, and even bought a t-shirt to bring home. The jukebox had some really good selections, but doesn't play what's been selected in any particular order, which can confuse anyone after a pitcher of Bell's Two Hearted Ale.
